Funny story... One night one of the dogs released some "rancid wind". Out of a sound sleep the other one jumped awake growling, and left the room in a huff.... not to be seen the rest of the evening! 💖🌞🌵😷

Good to see the poly tunnel coming to life. It has been so wet, but lovely to see the babies as well, and the super cute piglets battling to be money makers:)..

Glad to see your sowing station is in the polytunnel this year instead of directly outside. Also the beds look a lot more professional now. Keep up the good work.

I'm so impressed with your growth so far. Geoff you have done so amazing! I've been on my farm almost the same amount of time and I don't have even 1% of what you have accomplished (I know it's not a competition. It's just my observation) Your polytunnel is so SO productive already. I don't have anything even in the ground but I have noticed the wild strawberries, strawberries and raspberries are all fight for the light etc. I was on holidays for the last 2 weeks but was sick and managed to only put the gate (finally) on the chicken run, keep everything fed and watered and then hold the sofa so it didn't get away (by barely moving off it) 😊 Yeah it's been a crappy winter and there's been setbacks but YOU HAVE DONE SO MUCH!

It MASSIVELY helps being on site. Been a total game-changer for getting things done, mental health etc. Also definitely don't compare too much! Your farm reflects you and what you want of it. I'm just trying to extend my season for selling, hence why the polytunnel is go already!

Have you ever considered soil blocks for starting seeds? I haven't used them but the concept is brilliant. You plant seeds in the tiny blocks of compacted soil. Then when it's ready for a larger pot, you just place the tiny block into a divot in the larger block. No disturbing the soil, thus no re-establishing the growth spurts. The metal soil block makers are not cheap, but with KZfaq, even you can make your own! 💖🌞🌵😷

I have. It's not so common here in the UK and the soil blockers are harder to get a hold of. But I would like to try it!

@@BrimwoodFarm , the first season I'd DIY my own block maker... you could make a form 4" square with the divot that fit your current cells. ... WAIT! ... Seriously, I don't know why you couldn't just make a stick the same size as your current cells, fill a 4"pot with soil and use the stick to make the divot. 💖🌞🌵😷

Hey Geoff. Things are really happening, life starting outside and advanced life in the poly tunnel. Saleable veg almost ready! Great to know that you have sold 50% of the veg boxes. This is all great news. Then you have 4 ram lambs up to now It's all happening. We are still waiting. 🐑 Jacob and Johnny. 🤓🐶🧔

If there's no pollinating insects, get an artist paint brush 🖌️ and brush the stamins yourself. There's no science to it. Just pretend your brush is a honey bee walking over the flowers. Once I did this when I wasn't getting a high yield on my cherry tomatoes. Afterwards, I started getting full clusters on my vines. 💖🌞🌵😷

@@BrimwoodFarm, yes, but you have standing water right there to wash the mud off of clumps 😇. ... Sorry, just trying to make light of a difficult situation. Sending you lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.

Can’t seem to do any good with ranunculus but the flowers on the photos do look gorgeous ,, forgive my ignorance Geoff, can I ask why you farmers choose to have their sheep give birth in Feb/ March when it’s so cold and not wait until end of May?
@BrimwoodFarm
@BrimwoodFarm 3 ай бұрын
There's a knack to ranunculus - sometimes I get it right, sometimes I don't 🤣 To answer your question about lambing; it's a bit of nature, and a bit of the farming cycle. The majority of ewes come into heat in October/Nov naturally (like many native species like deer etc) so it's natural to be born early spring. I suspect this is due to evolution knowing if born in march, they'll be nursing on milk and by the time May comes and the grass is greening up, it's perfect for little ones to start nibbling. The other is the farming factor. Lambs in May is too late really to nurse the lambs, get them to a good size, wean them off and get the ewes back in good condition before the winter hits. Feb/March lambs mean you can wean by summer, ewes have all the summer grass and then not so much food is required during the winter months to keep them healthy. It also means a lot of store lambs can be brought on and sent off before winter hits.

@@BrimwoodFarm thanks for your reply ,, very interesting and it makes sense now for the ewes and the lambs to have plenty of lush grass to feed on during the summer, that’s nature for you, lovely seeing the new life at Brimwood❤️
Please be kind🙏
