Marc was the dude. As quotable as Cicero. "Pursuit of the unattainable is insane."

He does bear quite a resemblance to the official statues of Marcus.

I just started reading Meditations, I’ve always had a deep fascination with Alec Guinness’s version of Obi-Wan and I could not be more happy to discover this.

I was fortunate enough to discover an 1895 edition of Meditations in mint condition. I paid only $4.95 for it.

I think Mr Guinness used his Marcus aurelius character to express obi wan. And thus make a private joke of star wars. An emperor in the skin of a fugitive.

In his autobiography, Blessing in Disguise, he said that he watched no more than 20 minutes of the film, he never liked the screenplay. Is not a bad film, specially know, when is very easy watch bad films, but is a comercial film, acomercial film of the 60's.

But for me is one of his best works, of course, and he looked very much as the real emperor Marcus Aurelius.

Why not? It's one of his greatest!

Atlast, barbarians do not follow their leaders ambitions, it is the ambitions of the people which their leaders follow. Culture is not changed by leaders, only magnified.

I find the screenplay very good. It has, of course, many historical goofs, although far less than "Gladiator", which is a plagiarized version of this movie.

This is not Alec Guiness as Marcus Aurelius! This is Marcus Aurelius himself!

In fact, if this one is right, Marcus Aurelius indeed had some similarities with Alec Guinnes: www.voshart.com/ROMAN-EMPEROR-PROJECT

Trust me, Obi-Wan was the least remarkable of his performances.

Sure.And as Edward Gibbon put it " in a permanent state of mediocrity".Or words to that effect.
@iDeathMaximuMII Жыл бұрын
@@richardscanlan3167 That's a lie. From 867-1025 there was a Golden Age for the Empire. Set backs came but by the 930's, they were victorious in most of their wars & gained land back in Italy from 877-1022 They really started expanding from 960-1022. The Capture of Crete in 961, successful raids on Syria in 962. Conquest of Cilicia in 965, Antioch in 969, Eastern Thrace in 971 & then all of Bulgaria in 1018. There was no constant mediocrity. Even after the defeat at Manizkert & loss of Anatolia. They survived & recovered most of Anatolia during the reigns of Alexios I & John II. It was even until the death of Manuel Komennos, that the Empire began to fracture & then be permanently damaged afterwards
