Seriously laughing at your commentary. It's hilarious because it's true. I always wondered why other pitchers don't use these mind games with no one on base. J.Cueto and K.Jansen are other pitchers that come to mind that would use timing games to get the hitters out of rhythm.
@josephkelleher37435 жыл бұрын
Pedro Strop does a little bit, he mainly just quick pitches tho
@billyfraiser62985 жыл бұрын
Most pitchers don't use mind games like this because they don't want to throw themselves out of rhythm. In sports, the most important thing is consistency. If pitchers started messing with their delivery, then it would be harder for them to pitch effectively when there are runners on base. That's why you see a lot of pitchers never use the wind up, even with no runners on. You'll see pitchers pitch from the stretch every time (even if there are no runners on) so that way when runners do get on, they don't have to change anything. You'll also see if a pitcher DOES pitch from the wind up and is pitching a perfect game through like, idk.... 5 innings, then a runner gets on (thus making the pitcher have to pitch from the stretch), a lot of times you'll see that pitcher start to struggle. Pitchers can easily throw their own timing off by messing around like this..... that's why they don't do it very often.
@Jhart445 жыл бұрын
billy fraiser what do you mean pitchers have wind ups? Or am I reading this wrong I agree with everything except that

Kenta Maeda varies how long he holds his leg up a little bit, but he's quickened overall since coming stateside.

Very hard for a pitcher to do this, he is in fact disrupting his own rhythm for the sake of disrupting a hitter's timing. If Stroman was struggling to find his own rhythm, he wouldn't be doing this, he was in the zone in this series.

John Smith Baseball is by far the best sport. There’s just no need for batters to take 5minuttes just to get in the box each pitch. It’s ridiculous and that kind of nonsense is what really slows it down and would make an avg eye see it as boring
@TheOmar2919925 жыл бұрын
Im not sure people know what a quick pitch really means... a quick pitch isn't being ready to pitch quickly to make the game faster... is changing your whole rhythm and often involves no leg kick, like every pitcher does. As a batter you are accustomed to a pitchers leg kick to get ready, and while in the batters box you time it, because pitchers tend to do the same motion, because they have a rhythm and it makes the game fair. In what sense does it make it fair? Well, the pitcher takes all the time he wants while doing the wind up, but when he does his usual leg kick is when things even up, signaling he is ready to make his pitch, the pitch he was thinking about the whole wind up process, its location, speed, grip... that's how the pitcher prepares. The batter on the other hand, had to make his own wind up: separation, weigh transfer, leg kick... everything. When the pitcher uses his leg kick is when the batter knows he is going to pitch and does all his adjustments. Why take away that even ground where the pitcher can beat him with his location, speed and/or pitch control? and make it an "I gotchu when you didn't expect it" game. "Only an average eye" can't see it.

There is no rule in MLB that states the pitcher has to wait for the batter to be ready. If the batter has his hand up, the pitcher must stop ONLY if the umpire does as well. And the umpire doesn’t have to grant that. Batters only take forever to get ready every fucking pitch to ruin the timing of the pitcher and umpire. Good job by Stroman for noticing that

Psandoval85 he was injured and didnt play for half the season so I wouldnt really put that on him. So far he is quite a good pitcher throughout the years and this season even though the jays dont give him run support his ERA is under 2.00 so i’d say the man is able to get out.

@Kelltron you are right but he isnt that good. bluejays won't extend him because they know he isnt that good. I just dont like pitchers that quick pitch...it is cheezy.

I agree with both. It’s apart of the rules but I hate it when pitchers quick pitch me. That’s just my opinion though

@jerome williams Why don't you understand a quick pitch is defined as a pitch delivered before the batter is reasonably set? What you wrote is the definition of a quick pitch, which is illegal, although I agree there was no quick pitch in this video.

@jerome williams Keep laughing moron. You don't know what a quick pitch is. Here is a comment from the rule book; "Rule 6.02(a )(5) Comment: A quick pitch is an illegal pitch. Umpires will judge a quick pitch as one delivered before the batter is reasonably set in the batter’s box. With runners on base the penalty is a balk; with no runners on base, it is a ball. The quick pitch is dangerous and should not be permitted." Maybe you should look up the rules before making ridiculous comments. It will make you look less like an idiot.

@jerome williams Something else you don't know is that with no runners on base, a pitcher is not required to come to a pause.
