The Happiness Patrol is such an amazing story, it’s quite sad how much hate the Kandyman gets for being a stupid monster just because he is a combination of sweets. He’s one of the best and most iconic monsters of who!

Oh, the Kandyman was one of the best villains in Doctor Who history. The best evil comes looking sweet and inviting. Then those spinning psycho eyes and screaming voice were great as well. It WAS over the top, the whole production design, but it worked theatrically. Today's Doctor Who would try and make it too realistic.

It is always been my understanding that these Jabs at Margaret Thatcher is what got Doctor Who put on it's longterm hiatus.

@@harleyhartley3168It's kind of true. The BBC is meant to be impartial (but in reality is friendly with the government-Thatcher's at the time, obviously) and the D-G tried to discourage criticism of her.

I'm not sure it's got that much in common with Thatcher at all, other than Helen A being vaguely Thatcher-like herself. Otherwise, I think the comparisons are exaggerated.

Fourth Doctor Who Tom Baker did one on unrestricted corporate greed and the slavery that comes with it called The Sun Makers. The second Doctor story The Macra Terror is on the surface about 'crabs', but is about brainwashing, social control, political parasites and the amoral creatures that rule behind the curtain.
