Planet of Giants was a really great story, it was a fun light-hearted adventure before The Dalek Invasion of Earth. I also found the Doctor a bit more likeable than before and his relationship with Susan played off really well, it was sort of a shame to see her go.

Well there were rumours of course that he was somewhat anti-semitic, but I somehow dont buy that since he and Carol Ann Ford were very close, and she's Jewish. And back in those days, people of his age were inherently predisposed to some form of racism, because that was British culture back then. You cant judge him by modern standards.

Racism doesnt get a free pass just cos it was "in the past" pal that argument doesnt wash, racism is racism, but Ive never heard anyone call him that Id love to see the source of your remark cos considering he didnt want Carol to quit the show when she decided she'd had enough and tried to talk her into staying he can't have been very racist then or else he woulnt have worked with her in the first place....

There are reports he had problems working with an actor called Max Adrian who was both jewish and gay. This took place during the recording of 'The Myth Makers'.

I do remember Nicholas Courtney saying in an interview, "Bill Hartnell was a good man, though a bit bigoted." It is never a good idea to examine one's heroes too closely, sometimes you have to be able to separate the art from the artist, or the actor from the role that they have played.
