Thank you ! I just started a program with my work insurance which told me to only eat 12 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs and I just did your calculator and it says 90 protein and 20 carbs. I was like 12 that can’t be right. So this explains this better.

I’m so glad I watched this again. It’s taken several times watching to finally drown out all of the other voices. This is gold. It makes so much sense. I’ve wasted a year waiting to lose weight on high fat low protein keto/carnivore. I should have listened to my common sense and videos like this. Thank you so much. And then there is me, and all those like me. 7 months very high fat (80/20) clean beefy carnivore. Lost 42 pounds and now gealthy BMI for first time in 24 years! Maintaining weight is easy. Feel good mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally. Have healed numerous serious health issues, put autoimmune in remission, feel amazing. Well enough now to join the gym and start working on strength stability and flexibility. BOTH sides of this debate are right some of the times and in specific situations. I do not expect to be high fat forever. The only med I have left (!!!) Is the lowest dose of armour thyroid. Good fat is very helpful in restoring hormones and a host of other health issues. My health was always far more important than my weight. Yet I am now a terrific BMI. I am watching this because I am ready to cycle in some low fat high protein days when going to the gym. Eating keto/carnivore really should be viewed a spectrum, or even better to me...a toolbox. Because I haven't made one "professional" or influencer my "guru" I pay attention, and have a notebook filled with, ALL of the strategies they have had success with. None of these people are MY doctors, or yours. They do not know YOUR body/health issues, exactly what you are eating etc. Based on my experiments so far, I believe there is no ONE WAY to be keto/carnivore even for me! I am glad I am not stuck in a tiny restrictive way of eating. I am glad to have so many metabolic "shake up" strategies to keep my body in good health. I am glad I know that should I get a cancer diagnosis or show signs of dementia I will have myself in therapeutic ketosis PDQ. I have a health toolbox now, and I am grateful for the different "experts" sharing.

If you're fat, don't eat more fat. It's what general wisdom has been saying all along. Keto wants you to eat more fat to keep you satiated so you don't snack and eat too much. It's cutting out the carbs (eating less fruit, vegetables) that's the problem. I've been using more fat (butter) to eat less between meals and late evening, but I'm now not losing any more weight so I'm going to follow this now.

The idea of more fat is just the first week to get fat adapted then cut back on fat and add more protein
@sidneybuckaloo
@sidneybuckaloo 2 ай бұрын
I wouldn’t say it doesn’t work. It’s worked for thousands of people. Adding more fat doesn’t always make you fat. Look at the stories of people who it helps. Just because one thing works for one person doesn’t mean that it works for another. High fat, moderate protein or high protein, moderate fat.

This is really finally starting to click for me! My mind is a little blown right now. You guys are a wealth of info. I wish I'd dug a little deeper into the "eat more fat" myth back when I first started getting disenchanted with keto and realized that to keep losing weight I needed to increase protein and decrease fat. Not even having what I needed to burn fat because I was going too low on protein never even occurred to me before.

After being carnivore for 6 months after a diagnosis of insulin resistant, I get it! (I think). Im 74 years old female. I’m also now 105 pounds. Lost 20 pounds. Went zero carb. Med protein. Med fat. No calorie counting. After using your macro formula, I was very close to recommended numbers. That was a fluke cause I simply couldn’t eat the amt of protein and fat that carnivore demanded so I cut them back drastically. Now I will keep to the protein grams of the calculator, not go over the fat grams, stay no more than 20 carbs in the form of veg/salad not grain/junk, and do more exercise. My hair was thinning and falling b4 I ever went carnivore but now it’s worse. I will take electrolytes hoping low sodium was the problem. Am I on the right track? 🤞 And hardest cut back on my 2 cups of coffee. Excellent presentation. Very clear. Easy to understand now. ❤

You are both very good teachers, but I would really love it if you would use a whiteboard to explain some of these processes. Craig is using his hands to illustrate a lot, but it's not as clear as seeing it on a whiteboard. It helps us visual learners to be able to copy things down. That is one advantage of Dr. Berg, and Sten Eckberg.

Sometimes I will use my own notebook or whiteboard to take notes as I'm listening~ either written words or visual cues, such as the 'bubble chart' method learned in essay writing or even simple graphics. Everyone learns differently, & translating the information being offered is often of personal benefit. We might consider that not everyone is comfortable or adept at teaching in the same ways we might prefer to learn, which is when it's helpful for the learner to adapt the opportunity. =)

I was slim my whole life until after I gave birth, I developed thyroid issues.. I lost all the weight very quickly, eating 1.5-2 lbs of ground beef per day! I was taking cytomel for hashimtotos thyroiditis. I’m wondering if I could have reached the same weight without thyroid hormone. The beef was 85/15. I’ve thought about going 90/10 recently. This totally explains why I do so much better with higher protein and less fat!

The high fat thing never really made sense to me. I was recently in a ketovore/carnivore FB group that was always tell people to eat like 80-90% fat, to the point where they were starting to sound cultish. They also completely ignored the laws of thermodynamics and TDEE rule. So many post about how a someone had been on the diet for years with no WL and they were told to eat more fat and not track intake. This is something I have see not just in that group but in the keto/ketovore/carnivore crowd in general, and it really is a disservice to people who have really struggling to drop body fat. This is so very helpful. I’ve been frustrated because I can’t seem to be able to get my Glucose under 100. I did a 84-hr water fast last week and got my Glucose done to 80’s and finally down to 6073, but once I started eating Keto & PSMF, my Insulin is back to 143 today. I went on You Tube to try to get answers and watched this video. I think I know now what direction to go. I am a 69 yr old female and am 230 lbs. (My highest was 287) My goal is 160 for now. I have such a hard time losing and now I understand the main reason why. My sister is around 340 lbs (3 years older than I) and her Glucose stays around 85. I haven’t understood how this can be when she is around 100 lbs more than I. She is so resistant to weight loss, as well. She gets so discouraged as to what to do to lose the weight. I try so hard DAILY to study & search to find the answer for us both.

Everybody has a different body so the same plan doesn't work for everybody. One obvious thing is that it is not sustainable to go in extended fasts as the main way to lose weight because you are going to gain it all back when you start to eat again. It's better to follow a program that would be sustainable on the long term. Since fasts seem to work for you, try maintaining just a narrow eating window daily, no more than 6 hours. Then make a conscious effort to do at least 10000 steps a day. Also add strength training, particularly during your PSMF days. You can start with something as simple as using an exercise bike that has resistance bands so you have to make more of an effort to pedal and are building muscle mass. You can also follow videos in which exercises are done with resistance bands. You don't need to work out like a maniac because you don't want to injure yourself

Same thing happened to me. fasting for 24 hr+ is the only way to bring down my number to 70s-80s on keto. Your BG shot up even with PSMF? You can't be fasting all the time to bring down BG. what is the new direction you are taking?

Going to switch up again now because even doing that lowest bg in the morning got to 117. Trying to have more patience with myself but it's been 2yrs now and I just want to reach my goal.

Brilliant Video, guys.!!! This explanation is the most comprehensive, compelling + logical that I have ever listened to regarding FAT LOSS.! I've been adding 4x tablespoons of Beef Tallow to my daily Beef meals + wondering why I haven't been losing weight.! I basically was led to believe, by numerous "online experts" that the more "good" fats I eat the better for weight loss.! I'm gonna incorporate your recommendations immediately, at my very next meal.!!! So, I'm gonna drop that Beef Tallow straight back down to 1x tbsp a day + see how that goes. Thanks so much, guys.! 🙂

I’ve been monitoring my fasting, pre prandial and post prandial glucose for a couple of weeks now and it has been eye opening. I have added in PSMF days and I was so discouraged to see my fasting glucose was 105-106. But now that I have watched this video, I’ll stay the course and hopefully it starts trending down. I also notice that black coffee increases my glucose significantly as well, but it I have it with a teaspoon of allulose, my blood sugar will be in the 80’s afterwards. The body is wild 😂. I’m an RN and I feel guilty that our medical system gives people either no direction or poor direction. Thank you for what you do!

I bought a 2-week continuous glucose monitor when I discovered I was pre-diabetic. My takeaway learning was that my fluctuations in glucose had little or nothing to do with eating. Nice explanation, I have a 23 BMI , now I get why my triglycerides are under 60 and my glucose was just over 100, not extreme low carb, maybe just under 60-70 grams and definitely over 120 grams of protein per day, I’ve been trying to build muscle, and definitely for my older age, fasting and no carbs has not worked to see gains just loose weight and muscle, even with limited or no more gains, I see a toned and better shaped body, I take creatine every day, if stop for a week my body gets thin and can’t do the same amount of reps and sets as hen I am taking it, and I eat a lot of animal protein and eggs.

I did keto/very low carb for more than 10 years. Real food; not junk or replacements or substitutes. I healed my body in so many ways. I gut was so bad when I started that my doctor mentioned disability. No way without trying everything first. After 10 years, I started having high fasting glucose readings and gaining weight. After a year of this and tweaking and tweaking with no success, and feeling low energy, I reintroduced some carbs. Been rocking along for a couple years like this doing better than most but definitely not my optimal. I need a keto reboot. I feel best when on keto. Where do I start; which book or whatever? I did my macros on your site. Thank you!

I believe you are correct and from personal experience. I spent 20 years on my feet lifting and moving all night drinking coke, pretzels, or cookies at night. Now that I quit several years ago to raise my kids, I got diabetes. I didn't have a trace of that before except just being fat no matter how much I moved. You can do so much with fasting especially if you have diabetes, is an uphill battle. I know that if I could go back to the gym, my body would be using any lingering glucose on keto. You are also correct on that a fatty pancreas, a fatty liver are the true cause of diabetes. That's why in Germany they put diabetes on 4 non fatty shakes a day and within one month, they show no signs of diabetes but those of us following keto/carnivore takes soo long to get there.

You aren't losing weight because you are adding too much fat. First, get your macros right (be sure to read the notes at the top of the calculator) mariamindbodyhealth.com/calculator/ Next, your colon doesn't need fat to go poo. It needs sodium. Electrolytes are non-negotiable on a low carb diet: mariamindbodyhealth.com/how-to-balance-electrolytes/

I tried LMNT, which did taste good, but my body held onto so much water with it. I gained 2 pounds every day I took it and my body swelled up so much I couldnt bend my fingers or knees! Is there a pill or some other suggestion? I take ozonated magnesium at night now and also have magnesium glycinate (but I’m not consistent with that) but I don’t do anything else. How do we know if it’s salt, magnesium or potassium we need?

"May have to watch it again..." I watched it three times and still only understood about 1/3 of what he said. I am so confused. I started Carnivore because my Dr put me on very low oxalates. ( And she was right. I don't seem to be able to digest oxalates. I just thought I had Candida. ) Until then I had no idea what an oxalate was. But I also have hypothyroid, low adrenals, fibromyalgia and hashimotos but have histamine reactions to the meds so I stopped taking them and was trying to heal on my own with Carnivore/High Fat. But I have put on so much weight with Hashimoto and Carnivore doesn't let me lose the unhealthy weight. I would like to do the protein fast you recommend but just one hamburger patty has 38 grams of fat so it seems I would have to starve to follow it. So confusing.

Yes, it is fairly common unfortunately. "Healthy" on the outside, but not on the inside.

Adult onset T2D is common. Have him eat steak or bacon & Eggs instead of heart healthy grains & orange juice for breakfast. Hamburger is chopped steak.

@@livincincy4498 Thank you, yes, I'm trying! I've eaten low carb for twenty odd years myself, but he's hard to wrangle for various reasons. But i'm pushing keto on him as hard as I can!

Wow just found you guys and needed this info bad. As a diabetic trying to do carnivore i was beginning to get convinced I needed more fat and less protein. Just made brown butter bites and have been putting butter in my coffee. I need to loose about 30#s. I have been taking an Ayurvedic herbal supplement with a good keto diet and run about 100 in the morning. Since doing carnivore in run 120 to 130. I sort of figured my body was adjusting, but was concerned I was eating too much protein. Thanks for this common sense explanation. You have a new subscriber!

I needed this information so much! Perfect timing, was ready to give up on everything but this is exactly what was happening to my blood sugar when I decided to go Carnivore because Keto wasn't helping me to lose weight although I had some good benefits with mood and skin etc. It scared me to see my blood sugar go up even though I was starting to see changes with my body composition. This was the best explanation I've heard in the past over two years since starting this journey! Thank you!

It's very obvious you two are here to help. I love it. thank you. A suggestion would be to have a friendly discussion debate say with Dr. Boz or one of paleoketogenic folks from Hungary. It would be fascinating to witness that discussion. Best to you both.

Mahalo for the explanation on morning glucose levels. I had never heard it explained like that before and it makes so much sense. It’s just further proof that I am on the right path. I have much fat to lose and it is really stubborn (I’ve gained and lost and gained even more over 23 years) so I know it will take some time.

I eat about 10-20 total carbs per day. I tend to do a bit better on a more carnivore diet. I take a green powder (4 carbs per serving) and I do well. I personally lose more weight eating a little lore protein and a little less fat than what most people on keto eat. I think it’s just a matter of everyone’s body chemistry is different. I’m a 50 yo post-menopausal woman

If you are post-menopausal then you definitely want more protein. Please watch this video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r7Oifb17yaumYKM.html

I wish that you would make Craig’s presentations more KZfaq audience friendly. A scientific presentation would be easier to understand if their was a few visual aids. Thank you for your work. All the best.
