@@jeryjack No way, that's only a stereo-type thing. I'm 100% Japanese and I prefer going out and hang out with friends rather than staying home organizing stuffs in my spare time... so, my whole house is pretty messy never got organized. I'm watching this video just to ask myself if I wanna start cleaning up my room... someday... yeah, if that's what God wants.

I know what you mean. I had a lot of stuff that made me a Semi-Hoarder. I kept a lot of stuff because it had a lot of Sentimental Value as well as it made me feel proud that I was able to buy it with my own cash. I got rid of a lot of stuff and I felt that a weight had been lifted off of my shoulder. I feel so good when I wake up in the morning and see how neat and clean my house is. It really helps me start on the right foot in the morning.

Yes, exactly. I grew up in an extremely cluttered home, and I have now learned to separate from things. Even if you can't sell them any more (because there would be no buyers), and even if they cost a lot of money (like 5 dollars for each video tape).

Actually it is usually the other way around. Emotionally they are somehow lacking, over compensating, cluttered in their minds, congested with psychological abuses, etc This is why they manifest the clutter with physical clutter. It is an obvious sign of a disorganized mind, heart and life skills. What saddens me is that things cannot fill the void they have. If only they had a caring hand to guide them to an understanding that what their needs are, are human compassion, love and nurturing. Dogs, stuffed toys, no items you can buy can ever distract you from what your heart knows it actually needs, solid love.

I love her folding but I've also learned that military style folding (of shirts) is just as effective & compact. We had very tiny lockers in the Navy so we had to maximize space. I guess I just got used to folding that way. But either way both are good to save space.

Don't be a burden to your children.
@deadsetondreams1988
@deadsetondreams1988 3 жыл бұрын
She has stated before that she folds clothes with her kids. A lot of time kids just need patience and understanding because they are often seen and treated as inferior. Children learn from facial expressions and visual cues so as long as you remain calm they should hopefully learn it too. Maybe do meditation with your kids or even exercise with them to help them funnel their energy and learn healthy habits along the way. Exercise helps build mental clarity and it can even be something as simple as going for a walk with them, riding bikes together, bowling, ice skating, jump rope, dancing to music, etc. of course find what works for you and your family that you can all enjoy together. Sit down and have a discussion with your kids to get to know them and their interests, hobbies, preferences and build stronger relationships with them so you can all discuss your expectations for how you'd like your relationship with them to go forward. Or bonding over board games, or reading nights, and other fun options that don't involve sitting in front of a television while not really talking. Sometimes treating "kids" like growing adults and sponges who learn by the examples that we set, can establish respect and discipline on its own. It lets them know that you actually care about them and what they like which is huge for them. Tell them your concerns moving forward and how yelling at them has affected you, why you felt like you needed to yell at them, and that you now want to move forward with more positivity.

I want to get started following her book and videos. I already started before I thought of following her example. I want to purge as much as I can so when I pass away, my kids don’t have so much to go through. Since I don’t plan on going anywhere soon, once I have my stuff in order, I’ll have to keep it that way a long time. That may be a challenge. The only problem I foresee is she says to keep thirty books. I have a very small library. Series books, that I’ve read, can go. Others, will be harder to let go off. I’ll give it a go and we’ll see.😊

This method just overhauled my life and my perspective on the items that I own and buy, and I appreciate them so much more. The only thing I will say is that at the end of the video when she was talking at them and not talking them through the folding method made me anxious. It is their first time trying to learn this folding method and she was not only standing far away from them but she was saying how to do it really fast and apparently not watching them struggle to keep up. That would frustrate me if I was being rushed to do that and not paid attention to; it would make the process not as fun when it is in fact a fun learning experience for people to share. I hope they were properly shown how to fold after they were rushed through it to get to a commercial break.

The Japanese are so amazing with organizing in small spaces. I lived in Tokyo for 12 years and the real estate there is extremely high. It makes you value your small space and want to be organized. I have found myself with a lot of clothes in the last few years and that is my biggest problem since I moved back to the States, keeping my clothes organized..lol

I can't believe that tidying up can be this serious... to teach... I think this is common sense... I am not a very neat person in organizing but I know and I do it that I should put things in order and throw unneccesary things away to have more space and make me feel free to move Most people are just too busy or lazy to tidy up...even being ignorant... However, well done Marie Kondo. You make people aware of how important it is to have space that sparks joy!

I’ve been wondering why her technique become viral cuz I think it’s common sense that ppl throw away/ donate things they wouldn’t need/ use anymore. Less stuff,thus, more space, thus, much easier to re-organize. That’s what my family have been doing for years :))))

Apart from the folding technique which doesn’t work for shelves the rest is common sense.
