This documentary gives us a better appreciation for the ERT mission set and area of responsibilities. Not every special police team can operate in such unpermissive environments.

👋 Background info on myself: I am a prior Marine infantryman currently serving in the Army. I've been through specialized Close Quarter Battle training, security guard training, subterranean warfare course, urban surveillance training, foreign weapons training, helicopter insert/extract master, as well as numerous training with other militaries and their equipment.

11:12 there are also frequent multi-agency events occurring with RCMP as well as various municipal police departments for reasons of interoperability. Keep in mind that RCMP-ERT is the "SWAT" team for all rural areas coast-to-coast which fall outside of city police forces, so their jurisdiction is massive.

Many shots are older. Canadian specialty forces don't give much info. They prefer having enemies expecting different older tactics. Canadian civilian don't ask about what we have. We prefer jokes about our military fighting with hockey sticks. My aunt and uncle served in military and people stay away from military conversation.

For those who still read books I highly recommend "Descent Into Madness" by Vern Frolick. It is a true story of the RCMP in Northern BC and Yukon and their response to a problem trapper stealing and intimidating the locals.

@23:00 Northern Manitoba has so many small lakes that it's like a giant, half-frozen swamp. Even small planes can't land while cars & trucks can only get in when the mud freezes. Helicopters are the only way in and out for 4 - 6 months per year.

15:44 In Canada, the Coast Guard is not a part of the Department of National Defence, falling under Dept of Fisheries and Oceans instead. They are also a non-Constabulary organization so they are not directly going to board / arrest individuals. RCMP might be on a Navy or Coast Guard ship though.

@@aarphi1984 Yeah that's scary. Especially considering the threats Canada faces. China and North Korea could wipe out the U.S. in mere hours and then enslave Canada so easily. A lot of people don't realize how completely screwed the U.S. is if Yellowstone goes off.

30:14 Canadian Border Services Agency would man and patrol points of access including land crossings as well as seaports and airports. They have some specialized investigative units but I'm unsure on tactical teams.

ERT are the top of their game, but counter-terror ops was handed over to the CAF’s JTF-2 back in like, ‘93

Not all counter terrorism is JTF-2. The JTF-2 mostly deals with foreign counter terrorism. GRC, ERT, and OCG usually handle domestic. But JTF-2 can be called in, usually they are deployed over seas however. Like right now the JTF-2 are in Israel conducting counter terror, and hostage rescue operations .

@@Joel-pi2tt uh, no. ERT hasn’t done counter-terrorism since the airborne regiment disbanded and JTF-2 was stood up. That was literally JTF-2’s mandate

Man we dropped way higher than that when we did the Marine offshore drilling unit A1 course we dropped 40+ feet off of barges with zero ballast. We were just chefs and dish washers and cleaners also did the helicopter ditching where we had to escape an upside down helicopter in a pool. Just to work offshore.

RCMP's SERT (different unit to ERT) was primary for counterterrorism response prior to the formation of JTF2 in 1993. It ran using methodology taken from the FBI's HRT and Germany's GSG9. It was disbanded when counterterrorism ops was transfered to CAF with the formation of JTF2..

We have NTOG for the water and jtf2 for counter terrorism , I don’t know when the RCMP would be sent out to a ship , especially if the navy tactical operations group is around.

Yes jtf2 has domestic operations as part of their mandates.

I just went to their web page. Looks like they are back. Their mandates are armed and barricaded individuals. Air and marine interventions high risk search and arrests and protect policing. I am way more comfortable with the rcmp dealing with domestic civilians. Then, special operator's that spent their career being trained for and killing foreign combatants.

a lot of drugs get in canada through boats, so that might be one of the reason for the maritime aspect of it, but we also have JTF2 as a specific counter terrorism unit that is part of the army and not the RCMP

The canadian Coast guard has a special response team sort of the it for Introduction and the rcmp and the canadian border security agency along with the coast guard deal with border services and members of jtf2 and canadian security intelligence service work with canadian police agencies often

I’m slow to the game sorry. But I was in sea cadets, Quadra, a base in Vancouver Island, 1 of the hardest camps (Military in Canada) 2 weeks when I was 13 and 1 month when I was 14!! It was brutal!! The 1 month when I was 14 junior leadership (JL) they had me scouted for marksmanship and communications!! They don’t mess around!! The 1 camp out our back pack weight was 50 pounds!! I weighed 110 pounds!! We lived off the land!! The 2nd trip we took was the size of a soap box dish!! I’m not joking!! We use to bug people (cadets, that went to Gimli (Manitoba) or Acadia( Nova Scotia) Quadra is brutal!! I was working on my 8 pack when I got home after a month!! But I loved everything about it!!! 💗💗🙏🏻👍

No they're counter terrorism most of the time in domestic operations you're gonna get ert whether it's municipal or rcmp

@noahmack6839 I would agree, but they did form the jtf2 out of the old rcmp unit. I did look at the rcmp web page, though. Ert handles armed and barricaded individuals, I high-risk search and arrests, air and marine and protective policing. I am way more comfortable with the rcmp handling domestic citizens the a unit of operators that spend their careers training for and killing foreign combatants and terrorists. Just my opinion. Open to having my mind changed on which unit is better for handling our own citizens.

@davidedwards3838 JTF2 rarely take on domestic operations, only when it's counter-terrorism, which barely ever happens. The only time JTF2 has been deployed on canadian soil was for the winter Olympics and paralympics in 2010.
