The Marine Corps Infantry is changing. There is about to be a New Marine Corps Infantry. The Marine Corps Infantry is about to do a complete 360. The Marine Corps Infantry is going to be reconstructed completely. The Marine Infantry is known by all to be the best Infantry there is. With the Marine Infantryman being the definition of what it is to be an Infantryman. Will this New Marine Corps Infantry tarnish the legacy of the Marine Infantry everyone knows? This video is something the Marine Corps put out, so this stuff is straight from the source. Hopefully this video can give you a heads up of what to expect with the New Marine Corps Infantry. As always thanks for watching.

7:47 I don't entirely agree. It's not that our generation "can't handle it", its just not useful. It only gives Marines another thing to hate about the Marine Corps. If they can make it more desirable to stick around/reenlist and provide a more efficient learning environment, I 100% support the change.

That’s facts. Time and time again research has shown people learn better with positive or positive + negative reinforcement rather than just negative reinforcement. I’m sure that if this change is done right, it’ll produce even better, more efficient marines.

Keep in mind this is not a tryout for a next generation art school. They are building them to be soldiers, if they can't get used to being shouted at what do you think is gonna happen in a combat scenario.

The issue is that some things cannot be taught through verbal instruction alone. Some lessons must instruct the nervous system, not the conscious mind. It needs to be ingrained. Like immediately moving to cover when taking fire, not exposing yourself to observation, immediate reactions. The only way to truly create immediate and instinctive responses sometimes is by using pain as a teaching tool. Your body and mind remembers pain far better than words. So being kicked in the ribs will teach you not to expose yourself to fire alot better than it being explained, etc. This obviously isn't the case for all subjects, as certain subjects need to be taught in a clear, academic manner. That's why ITB has classrooms. But some things need to be delivered in a more unique way. Having more basic skills ingrained as a reflex frees up your higher level thinking for more complex strategic decision making.

Much different experience than when I went through in January 2007. The instructors we had were OIF vets fresh off Baghdad and weren’t playing. Hikes to the range were ruck runs. Buddy team rushes until your cammie trousers had holes in them, no pads of any type were issued back then. Arty sims being thrown in your face. We had old LBVs and banded kevlar helmets and many of us had the old M16A2 rifles with the new ACOG. I watched an instructor slam a boot’s head into the ground at a range for veering into friendly line of fire during a live fire buddy rush (much deserved though). We learned 1 job, most became 0311s. I became a 0331 and loved machine guns. This new Marine Corps infantry training looks to be substantially improved. That way if a mortorman or machine gunner gets killed, another Marines can pick up the weapon system and use it. I’m probably too old to re-enlist as a reservist but I’m going to give it a shot.

Just went through IMC. Definitely had a bigger emphasis on thinking tactically, swimming, and an overall bigger importance on knowing your job and why you’re doing what you’re doing. Obviously you’re still a marine and you do what you’re told. But if you’re the one calling the shots, they make sure you can explain why you’re doing what you’re doing.

As a normal 11 that went to ITB, I will say that the IMC people I’ve met did get to fire a lot more weapons, and learn certain things I never got the chance to in ITB, but they seemed to know a little about a lot of things rather than a lot on a few. Even basic 9 lines and CFF. They also switched up a lot of tactics with things like MOUT for example from when I was in ITB whether it be good or bad. But IMC sounds like a lot more fun because I sure as hell never shot any javelin or 320 or 240 or 50 cal or mk19 and whatever else they get. Seems like a cool course but nothing that changed drastically. If anything it seemed they need to go over those basic infantry classes a bit more.z

@@anthonyhernandez1059 it's unlikely you'll be in the new course. Delta is the next company to pick up IMC. You might have perfect timing though. Apparently they're thinking about cancelling the course because it's so damn expensive so I guess it's a possibility there won't be any more cycles. The new school is better in almost every way than the old course. It's comparable to recon and recon is in talks of changing their training to stay ahead. Don't be nervous. Whichever way you go, you're gonna be a killer. The only difference is if you're in IMC for your initial infantry training, you'll save yourself from more training when you hit the fleet. Good luck with the rest of boot. It's easy, the end flies by.

I went through ITB in the Iraq generation as a standard 0311, and we did a shit ton of morning PT. Not sure where you guys went to ITB, but I was at Geiger. Also, when I was in, we got the shit hazed out of us. Like extreme hazing by the instructors. But in the end, it was extremely beneficial. Nothing subconsciously ingrains the lesson not expose yourself to observation like a swift kick to your sides. Sometimes you can't train the conscious mind, you have to train the reflexive nervous system, especially when responding to fire. We never swam though, except for the guys volunteering to do Recon assessment. I will say this, they did teach us the 'why' of why things were done in the way that they were done, but you had to pay attention to not miss it. They didn't really focus on it, not how they are planning to with the new generation. Most students don't care or pay attention to the explained details. I was the exception. I love understanding the whys and strategy behind shit, so I absorbed all the strategic knowledge they offered. Also, tactical decision making was taught in ITB, and especially in the Fleet, but it was considered secondary to making sure you learn the basic shit you needed to learn. Glad they're stepping that up. I'm kind of jealous, tbh. From what I hear, they're trying to turn the Infantry into a kind of lighter weight special ops type unit, working independently on their own for long periods of time, which is all pretty cool. As an 0311, you do learn a lot of cool skills in the MEU, but it looks like they are trying to turn the entire Infantry into a more advanced MEU. I wish we got all this training in our time.

Future operations in the Pacific are going to require line companies and Tier 2 units to co-op effectively and in some cases work interchangeably. Look at how infantry is riding in zodiacs now and operating with ODA teams when conducting littoral regiment exercises. These guys need to be ready to roll with Tier 2 guys right out of IMC, hence the new IPAT. Trell, I got out in 2011, how receptive do you think the current FMF is going to be to this new infantry?
@BXRDIGITAL

I disagree with Trell's version of the " ideal " Marine, a Marine can be a respectful man and still be a badass killer. He says that " you wont be able to call people bitch and you'll hear more of brother and teammate. " What is exactly bad with that? the Marines I respected most were those that conducted themselves live grown adults, not high school kids or college frats boys. Being an ass and totally fucking up new Marines in your unit doesn't make you or them a better Marine, it is detrimental to unit cohesion and causes problems in the unit. So instead of the barracks being an out of control frat house they will be more like a building full of respectful Marines, I cant wait! sounds like we will have less hazing BS and more getting along as a unit and working together.

I thought your comments about the newer generation not being able to handle the toxicity and roughness of the Marine Corps were off base completely. Having been apart of an infantry unit that has both the old ITB and new IMC guys. I can tell you that the new IMC guys are built different. They all knew how to make their own ghillie, were proficient with their weapons and other sections weapons, and were definitely a little bit more chill than the older Marines who were nearing the end of their contract. I had also spent a lot of time attached to a Recon unit and they were significantly more chill and in line with what was said about the new corps. They just treated their guys like humans and like adults. If you messed up, believe me, you paid for it. But you didn't get berated and swore at endlessly. It was just an understanding. Cool, you messed up and had to get hazed a little? You good to continue work? Good to go. No bitching or whining, and overall the morale was significantly better in that type of environment versus the typical Infantry unit.

For the old guys my age, when did SOI or ITS as it was for me got to 8 weeks? If my memory is correct it was 12 weeks of ITS (Infantry training school). Ands it was 6 months of training before you got to your unit. Also, when we got to our units we cross trained and learned all the jobs/position in a fireteam and squad. I’ll never forget what my first platoon lieutenant said to my platoon; “If I and the platoon SGT get killed on our mission, which one of you are going to take over my job”! He also told us about that situation happening in Vietnam and how a Corporal led a platoon to not only complete the mission, but got them back to camp. On a side note, when the heck they go from sit ups to crunchers? It was 80 sit-ups in 2 minutes for a perfect 100 score on the sit-ups.

So, it sounds like the Marine Corps is going back to the what the Marine Corps of the 1980’s! Yes I was an 0311, and during my tour I competed against Army Rangers in a tactical course , I spent six weeks in Coronado, CA being trained in a lot of water and amphibious tactics from Seals and Recon Marines, trained with Indonesian Gurkhas,as well many foreign forces from Southeast Asia. Completed my 30 day desert training in 29 Palms, 30 day Winter training in Bridgeport, Ca, months of jungle training in Okinawa, Japan and all throughout Southeast Asia. A lot of cross training in ground air support and combat engineer training. I qualified and held every weapon and position as an 0311 when I was in. I say all this, NOT to toot my own horn, but to show that it looks like the Marine Corps is going back to providing more brad base training like I had. But, I am only a sample size of one as they say.

not gonna lie, watching how these new infantry are trained makes me jealous. went through infantry school as an 0311 in 2007, i always found it strange that we were split up into MOS and never learned ANYTHING about other 03xx weapons. 0311 just did rifleman stuff and that was it, if you were lucky and had a good company then weapons platoon would kick some classes on how to drop a mortar or how to work a 240 / mk19 or an assaultment actually do assaultment stuff

In theory sounds good but what you’re missing with this course is the ability to master one part of the MOS and becoming a subject matter expert in those tasks. I started out as a machine gunner and mastered that and then we’re taught other MOS’s in order to employ other tactics and better understand the battle space and what I can offer as an infantryman and more importantly as a machine gunner bc I understand mortars, rifleman, demo, snipers, and basic war fighter tasks. What they’re doing now is essentially making off brand rangers with no selection or mastery of the war fighter skills to make you a better operator. Something I see in army special operations is they master one part of their job and are pulling away from this “jack of all trades” mentality bc you’re a master of none. Even the basic army infantry is starting to pull away from this model of learn everything. What we do in army SOF is pretty much what I did in the fleet which is master you specific job and cross train on everyone else’s job. Which I think would fit the corps much better and allow them to be more elite. And throwing in a selection much like how RASP is ran would also help with the quality control of the war fighter but that’s just one old devils opinion
@billionsandbillions
@billionsandbillions Жыл бұрын
It’s a well rounded approach. With this new training you can train these new Marines in Multiple MOS’s and evaluate which specific MOS they excel in. When they get to the fleet they can be placed In the proper MOS which they’re good at and then master it. If you consider yourself to be a master after a couple months of ITB then you’ve stopped learning and perfecting your trade. Which is not what Marines do.

@@214.jj__2 Yeah absolutely. The way it is now, you may volunteer prior to going through ITB or even after you graduate. My advice is, if you deem yourself fit enough for recon, complete ITB first as a 03XX that way if you fail, you don’t get POGed out. If you do the 8 week legacy program you can volunteer at the split, don’t do that, you will get POGed out if you fail. That being said I’m sure that most marines will suggest you spend your first 2 years in a regular infantry unit before trying out for recon. Recon is extremely difficult and if your body isn’t prepared for you can easily get injured. I literally watch these recon dudes run a mile and a half to the chow hall and then a mile and a half back to their barracks, three times a day. It’s a fucking slay fest

i’m all for a longer, more in depth soi, but not so much putting an end to mos’. countless militaries throughout history failed because their men were decent at everything, rather than excellent at one individual task. removing mos’ will do nothing but make the corps a less efficient fighting force. it’ll completely remove the entire teamwork aspect of it. teaching marines how to operate other mos’ equipment (ie: a rifleman being taught the ins and outs of a machinegun, mortar, mk19, etc. instead of just his rifle) is a really good idea, though. i just hope they keep the mos’, so marines can be excellent at something, instead of mediocre at everything. same thing with the “change in tone,” i guess. if you get offended by cussing, don’t join the fucking marines lmao. other than that, though, this is a really great change!

It sounds like they are looking to avoid a problem from WWII, you knew one weapons system well, but nothing about any other weapon systems. As we became more involved, more cross training occurred after Boot Camp. My time, cave man time, we received minimal cross training in the fleet. IMHO, it's a smart idea, a much more lethal force. Rifleman can be an effective mortarman....sorry, mortar'person', machine gunner, etc. As for MOS, you will still have your primary MOS, which will make it even longer to make it to the fleet. A good, and bad, thing. Good, you will have a better understanding of the Marine Corps.....bad, you have the opportunity to develop bad habits in a 'school' environment like Trell has mentioned, alcohol and opposite sex.

Many in the family were Marines. They were all combat Marines. All of them claim the same thing. No matter how hard they thought the were, they found out how wrong that really was. They all claimed that it was that training that made them hard and directly responsible for making it home. So that was a big lead up to a small question. By removing the or some of the brutal nature of Marine training is that going to remove some of the badass that is the United States Marine? I don't ask as a raw raw question. I ask because I want every Marine to get to come home. Yes I do realize that is probably an impossible idea yet it is not an untrue desire. So again will the new style of training remove the fire that makes a Marine who he is? It's an honest question so there is no need for shitty responses

@@angelicaarroyo7845 Yeah, I have a family tendency toward VERY MORBID ObESITY. I managed to keep it at bay until the military-where, quite frankly, I was too miserable to limit my food intake or to care about my weight. THEN they PUNISHED me for being overweight by putting me on a special diet and restricting me to base and forcing me to do extra exercises. "You WILL lose weight or we'll kick you out!" "Kick me out NOW! Cause if being overweight will get me out. I sure as HELL won't lose weight!" "No, we HAVE to give you a 6-Month "Opportunity" to meet military standards." I don't know if all the deliberate over-eating messed up my Metabolism or if God punished me for the colossal perversion of deliberately trying to be fat-but I never again got my weight under control-and life isn't worth living for a Fat man. No matter what good qualities that you have, a fat man is only good to play life's comedy relief. Went in at 211 and ran 11-miles every day. 10-months later, I weighed 280 and couldn't run a quarter-mile. Never got my weight below 250 again. 40-Years later, I look back nostalgically on how good it felt to be in shape and go on a LONG RUN. The military took that away from me. BIG PS: I got an "Honorable Discharge"-not that it mattered to me even a little.
