I’ve watched this video so many times it’s crazy how it never gets old or worn out to me. Times get tough, moments seem too surreal or long to fathom that you’ll make it out of that pit you’re mentally or physically in. In all seriousness this video always changes my outlook on not just my situation or thing I’m going through but life as a whole. Whenever I need inspiration I just watch this video it reminds me of why I joined and what reality is.

This birthday message deserves a short story award.

Well done! You got to me. Pulled a guy out of a wrecked SUV a few years ago. It's indicative of the message in this video. You are changed forever. And it's interesting so many years, after I left the Corps, how I didn't think so much as react. One minute I am driving highway speed. And next moment I am running down a hill to help a guy who flipped his SUV on it's side. That's just part of who I am. One of my favorite memories was in Goose Bay, Canada for cold weather training in December 1988 when I served with 2nd ANGLICO. It was -30F and we were hauling 80lbs rucksacks on cross-country hybrid skis. At one point I asked the CO, Colonel K.L. Christie, "Sir, is this what they mean by the Cold War?". He said, "I've got another name for it!". Everyone laughed. And the brief exchange lightened the mental load of the harsh conditions on everyone. Classic Marine Corps culture right there. Here we are less than 200 miles from the Arctic Circle and we're having a laugh about it. Recently received my Bachelor of Science in Digital Cinematography. And although my path now leads me away from Hollywood to once again work for Uncle Sam, one day, I am going to convince Nav Info West to help me make Lighting From the Sky, Thunder From the Sea. My senior year at Harvard, the Officer recruiter came to campus. He clearly exemplified the spirit of the Corps to a T. Marines also have the best uniforms.
