Marines attack key Afghan insurgent border hub

Marines with 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion struck a key insurgent trafficking hub on the Pakistan-Helmand province border March 14-17. The attack was a part of Operation Rawhide II, an effort to stop the flow of narcotics, weapons, and fighters into, out of, and around southern Afghanistan. The insurgency in Afghanistan traditionally reloads and goes on the offensive in the spring and summer seasons. As Sergeant Jeremy Ross reports, Marines in the far south of Helmand province went out to stop this year's spring offensive before it can begin.

What vehicle is that at 0:10? It doesnt have the turret of an LAV-25 but isnt tracked like an AAV.

I was in 3rd LAV's ATs when we deployed to Okinawa. We made Marine Corps history by being the first LAV Bn to be deployed overseas. Camp Schwab Okinaw under Major Knapp. We deployed to the PI. Man that was a great time! Our LAV-AT 521851 was a great pig. The Gen I emerson turrets leaked hydraulic fluid as fast as we can put it in. Knothing is better than lining up a target with the thermal sight and hittin the go button and watching a TOW fly downrange! I wonder if LAVAT 521851 is still alive?

He's probably not a sniper, more than likely he's a Designated Marksmen (DM). Usually a rifle platoon will chose one of their best shooters, then this Marine gets sent to a school to learn the weapon system.

You don't need to be a citizen to become a enlisted US marine. I don't know the exact details but you probably need to be a permanent resident in the US before you could join.

Because he's a sniper. Snipers get issued that type of gear. I believe it's so it's harder to identify the sniper out of all the automatic fire, but I could be wrong
