Watch to learn more about the redesigned Infantry Marine Course.
Marines with Alpha Company, Infantry Training Battalion, School of Infantry - West, participated in the first iteration of the redesigned Infantry Marine Course on @[244860127876:Camp Pendleton].
IMC is a 14-week course designed to create better trained and more lethal entry-level infantry Marines prepared for near-peer conflicts.
The course uses a learning model intended to develop capabilities for independent and adaptive thought and action.

0311 ITB should be the new MCT- without the rocket portions of the POI. Other than that, USMC pogs are going to need more AND better provisional 0311 refresher training as part of FD 2030. Distributed, low signature, highly technical combined arms amphibious/ air assault/ motorized and limited SOF capable troops are going to need competent non-combat support. Different and higher standards now exist for combat support jobs in the form of the MSPS, which could be compared to the Australian RAR's Infantry PESA test. Even so, more provisional rifleman refresher training is needed. Convoy defense, Tower Defense, security patrols, hand and arm signals, tactical communications, first aid, naaic m240 knowledge, select designated marksmen, double the number of 09XX training instructor mos billets to each company, double the number of docs to each Marine Platoon (not triple) and request that the Navy establish a permanent Greenside NEC, ecp's, vcp's, combat marksmanship, fire team and squad defensive t&r tasks, intermediate swim qual, etc.

I am a retired Infantry unit Leader andcwas a 22yo Platoon Sergeant in Vietnam and trained at mountain warfare school (commando) ; jungle training in the Philippines and amphibious warfare school, company gunny, wpnsplt cmdr as a gunny and NCOIC of 2 NCO Schools and ITR troop handler. My reason for sharing this is to make a point of matter. In the 21 yesrs as a Grunt with trigger time I am very pleased to see this concept in play because back in the day we always had to struggle to increase the tactical training of our Marines. As a well retired Grunt (all 03 mci courses and badic school extension course) I wanted to be one the best 0369 in the Corps. As a Company Gunny my primary job was to "enforce discipline and train the company for battle". In away I see this as a "package deal " for Grunts and at 75yo and pt x3 a week since I retired in 1984. Never fu#k with a well trained Grunt who is trained to kill. To that officer who said "ex-Marines", I want you know there are no ex-Marines!! Semper Fi

I suspect that the changes are going to increase the success rate of the course. Whether or not this will create better Marines is a matter for debate and the debate is passionate on both sides. The answer will be answered definitively on a battlefield in the future. Getting this wrong will be costly, getting it right will be costly for the enemy - second place on the battlefield is a grave marker.

@@nead6713 maybe than a leg unit. There's only 5 Airborne Infantry brigades in the Army and we/they have always got issued the high speed shit first in the regular Army. 82nd has had the new thermal ENVGB nods for a minute, on top of all the other new high speed sensors, optics, etc. Also the new 6.8mm next gen weapons will be coming online. It's just a numbers game, and the Army has a massive budget compared to the Marines depending on the Naval budget.

This all sounds brilliant, but my question is then: why and who was in charge of USMC before when apparently training recent Marines and those currently deployed on the frontline to a continually minimalist baseline and lowest common denominator ?!? Huh? That said... USMC needs proper cutting edge defensive, self-protective and offensive equipment, ASAP. Period. Arguably more than anything! Just give it to Marines and they will adapt and find the optimal way to employ the equipment fluidly on the fly on the field. Reduce the mumbo jumbo and let the equipment dictate! e.g.., how is the anti-drone capabilities at the squad level and company level coming ? how is the offensive drone capability and cost-effective multi-round precision guided stand-off capability coming along at the squad and company level once on the ground ? How is their mass-deployed light mobility, maneuver coming? Those sorts of things, imho... Respects to USMC

I suspect that you will find that they have made it an environment where more of them are able to successfully complete the training... Is that tougher, doubtful. Of course, the question remains, does this training create better Marines versus the previous training paradigm? Well, we'll see the results on the battlefield at a later date. There are strong feelings on both sides of the debate. I know how I feel about it, but that opinion certainly doesn't matter.
@Tommy1977777
@Tommy1977777 3 жыл бұрын
@@mpeugeot opinions can be valuable if backed by fact. That being said the Marine Corps must do this to create a truly legit "elite". Being trained as nothing more than a glorified infantry service will not do. The Army has plenty of infantry. These young men are dying to be in an elite and they'll do the work...if their leaders but have a bit of faith in them and their willingness.
@mpeugeot
@mpeugeot 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tommy1977777 I agree that the training must be challenging in order to create an elite fighting force. If anyone can complete the training, it will lose value, there is nothing elite about anything that everyone is guaranteed not to fail at. Unfortunately, it sounds like they are attempting to ensure that everyone is going to succeed in the training environment. Might as well hand out participation trophies, if that is the case. That would be an ill-advised strategy for an ultimate activity where second place means not coming home alive.
@Tommy1977777
@Tommy1977777 3 жыл бұрын
@@mpeugeot agreed but training just the infantry shouldn't be that difficult. We already do much harder training between all other Special Ops units combined which numbers in the thousands. So training infantry Marines to be a notch higher in difficulty shouldn't be difficult. We already train in different environments.
@mpeugeot
@mpeugeot 3 жыл бұрын
@@Tommy1977777 there is a lack of stoicism and resiliency that has become more and more common over the past decade across the military in general and even within the USMC specifically. The end result of that is a population military service members who are less tolerant of distress and adversity. That may not be a very compassionate or popular perspective, but it is an important point, because growth is more often the product of overcoming adversity than it is from simply achieving success. I appreciate your thoughtful comments, thank you for sharing your perspective.
