We need a third baseball game

Black toad actually makes more sense than Black Koopa in my eyes. We've seen them quite a few times in the paper mario games actually. Black pianta does seem a bit weird to me though.

It is honestly pretty hilarious that every single one of the scrapped characters was Black except for White Yoshi. Some of those links would be massive buffs for the colour, especially the Yoshi and Pianta variants (also Black Pianta? what?). Wasn't mentioned in as much detail, but White Yoshi would also be a massive addition, arguably more than any of the other scrapped characters. Blooper, Boo, and King Boo have a pretty awful Mii in vanilla since they have chem with each other already and the only other character they get is Normal Dry Bones, who's just kinda mid. The option to go into Yoshi, who, by extension, gets you to powerhouses like Birdo and Mariom would be a huge buff for those characters and other parts of that chem tree like Petey and K. Rool.

A toad with black spots makes sense, and so does white and black yoshi, as well as kritter. As for koopa, maybe it would've been an armored koopa like from paper mario ttyd? For pianta, there is an unused black/ dark blue pianta in mario sunshine, or maybe it could be a mob pianta, once again from ttyd.

It would’ve made so much since if they put Black/White Yoshi in the game, considering they had already made some on screen and comic appearances. As for the others, I suppose black koopa makes sense, but the others, aside from maybe Black Kritter, make about as much sense as putting anything other than milk in cereal. Still novel ideas to be fair.

Imagine Blank Pianta was just a Pianta covered in the black goop from Sunshine… would be so cool

Lets also talk about in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, they removed black yoshi and added in another green one.

These deep dives into the Sluggers files are always interesting. Nintendo just does their own thing, but it is neat to discover cut content from the game. I can see the theory that black (and maybe white) were placeholders for potentially other character colors. I really hope Nintendo hasn't forgotten about Mario Baseball. Here's to hoping we see the next game in the series in an upcoming Direct! Mario Baseball with official online play would be a dream come true!!

It's possible it was based on the "dark is evil" trope in literature and theatre given the link between black mii and Bowser (jr), but then nintendo realized how people might perceive it as relating to race. For instance the "dark" type for pokemon in japan is the "evil" type

In Super Mario Sunshine there are unused color parameters of piantas that are totally black and white.

Someone should mod these characters back into the game with the correct models and colors to see how they stack up. Having two more Yoshi alts would provide more chances to get one during drafts for example.
