In this episode, I sit down with Mark Bell, a hybrid athlete who's shattered records in powerlifting and found new strength in running. Mark founded Super Training Products Inc., a multi-million dollar fitness business, and now hosts the MB Power Project, a leader in health & fitness podcasts.
We delve deep into how incorporating running into his training regimen has not only made him physically stronger but also a better father, husband, and leader. Mark's transformative journey showcases the incredible power of moving on from past identities by having the courage to attempt new things. Enjoy the episode!

Completed my first Hybrid ultra marathon. Ran 50 miles, benched 405lbs, and squatted 405. All in the same week. Been following a similar plan to the Hybrid plan that Nick does

Mannn I felt that part about accommodating for a young child and marathon training, when my son hit a year old (4+ years ago now) I all but put long runs aside. For about 4 years now, I had less than a handful of 10+ mile runs every year. Just this past summer, I logged 8 x 10+ mile runs for my recent marathon training block. I got into the mindset of “okay, I am maximizing these 30-40 minute run blocks” every chance I got. It was tough somedays as I wanted to go 2+ hours and felt amazing but knew I had to get back for the kids. One of the most important life lessons I learned as a young Dad.

Something about being able to run for an hours with body handling it. The mental resolve. Unbeatable

Nick, you are a really good interviewer/conversationalist. I like your style of podcasting. Very patient and attentive. I've been a fan of your KZfaq vids for a while. I'm really enjoying the podcast as well. I enjoyed this interview and the new podcast layout.

Awesome episode. For Mark, I had a similar issue that you experienced on the Starbucks run that day. All your symptoms mirrored mine. I went to the hospital and they told me I was dehydrated. When I was about to leave I couldn’t walk well, wobbling around, so they transferred me to the neurology department. After 3-4 tests with several different docs, finally they diagnosed it as a vertebral artery dissection (mini stroke). I’m not saying that we had the same experience, but it never hurts to get it checked. I really enjoyed your insights. It’s great to see you doing so well. Thank you for sharing.

I second this. I’ve been biking for an hour a few days a week, and my reps while lifting has increased. Basically it’s the mental aspect. It helps a lot with the “keep going” “almost there” mindset while lifting.

If only I had the foresight and was humble enough to listen to advice like this before I pushed an injury to the point of surgical intervention. Now that I've learned this lesson the hard way, this episode gives great insights. Just a few short weeks before I start physical therapy, and soon enough I'll be running again.

I really, REALLY, liked Mark’s ending question back to Nick and really thought Nick answered it well. This was the question I finally asked myself years ago at the age of 42 and it changed my life in the best possible way…. Wish I would’ve asked it a lot earlier! Well done Gents!

Bell makes a good point about the importance of patience and consistency when it comes to any new form of exercise. It takes time for your body and mind to adapt to a new stimulus.
