If you watch the Lanterne Rouge video, how Cavendish described what happened with Morkov, Ballerini, Bol and himself was absolutely spot on. The guy remembers absolutely everything, even through emotion. He's just on it the whole time. Amazing cycling brain. Well done; so happy.

I remember back when Renshaw was leading Cav out for THC/High Road. If the leadout train got to the front, nobody was catching either of them. There were several stages that Cav could have slammed on brakes and let Renshaw win, then taken second because they were so far out in front. It was an incredible 1-2 punch back then.

might get flamed but they really bungled it frankly as much as I love cav the key moment was ditching philippsen for Ackerman they basically led him out if p doesn't have to start and stop and start again idk that cav wins, pedersen also way out of position and crashes chapeau to cav for surfing excellently astana actually were smart by going to the front early because they knew they would likely fade in the end compared to the stronger teams. very clever.

I remember watching him as an 18yo, being called arrogant. He was just shy and had a huge impact as soon as he was on the international stage, and was trying to cope with everything that came with that. He is perhaps prickly (😊), but that's part of what makes him so brilliant at what he does. Also, us Brits (poss only English!) really want our sports people to win, but the minute they show that and want to be competitive, they're arrogant/cocky ( see early uears of Andy Murray, Lewis Hamilton, Bradley Wiggins et al). It's a terrible trait. Also, in a cut throat event, for a team to invite a rider back, who seemingly seemed to have ended his career, and build the team around them, not just as an also ran shows the respect this man has, as also evidenced by the reaction of other riders. I was 'debating' this with someone who said anyone who doesn't win the GC can't be considered a great. Yes. Yes they can, particularly when they've done over the number of years he has, with all the setbacks, and his wins in the other major tours. Incidentally, he's only a couple away from that record. I'm sure he's happy at this one,but given he's got it out of the way, so to speak, he might just go for it. He just needs to covered in bubble wrap on the non sprint stages! It's just a shame he won't be finishing on the cobbles this year.
