Totally disagree with Mark basically saying that whether a player could be offside or not depends on whether the shot or header was savable. Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. A player is either interfering with play or is not. Whether or not Wolves' goal should've stood is another matter.

Lol, so let's say a ball is played behind on the left wing and another player is in an offside position close by the defender on the right wing and the attacking player on the left wing proceeds to score. According to your logic, the goal should be disallowed because technically the attacking player on the right wing interfered with the defender on his wing.

Agreed… the argument that Fabianski wouldn’t have saved the header is totally irrelevant. The view from behind the goal clearly shows an offside player obstructing his view. Harsh on Wolves but a simple case of rightly applying the rules. Would never have been disallowed without VAR but that is why it was brought in. I wonder if there would be the same intensity of debate if the incident had happened midway through the first half. Emerson’s penalty and disallowed goal were equally contentious in my view but far less scrutinised.

It’s pretty hard to judge points lost, unless everything happens with the last kick of the game, because you never know how much the final result would be effected. You’re trying to predict the future

@@GIBBO4182 Just like with Wolves today, many of West Ham’s VAR decisions happened at the end of the game. Actually, Luton away they missed a last minute penalty against us and I think there was one other. One was in Europe, so more accurately I think VAR has cost West Ham a net 4 points. 😵‍💫 Wolves fans claim 11, though. Dunno how accurate their’s is. 🙂

There is no accountability for these refs who decide the fates of sides every week. VAR takes 4 minutes to watch soft penalties so they can find the worst angle in slow motion and justify their biases.

Exactly. The term “clear and obvious” that they use is just to cover their backs. If it’s not a clear and obvious error then why take more than 2 minutes to decide that? I guess only City can get away with blatant fouls in the box.

yeah there aren't huge mistakes in Italy at all. I watch it every week and VAR takes 20 seconds max and no controversy.

To that I say, if we've had it 6 years and officials here aren't capable of learning how and when to use it properly, how is that an argument? You seriously expect a system like this to work flawlessly, when there's a referee and 3 other officials making decisions in a game, and the same is happening in 9 other games across the weekend? Football decisions are nearly always subjective and often debatable. There will NEVER be a standard or steady baseline of what is or isn't a foul, a penalty, etc etc. The same 4 that agreed on this decision, tomorrow a different 4 might see it differently. So other than the offside rule, why the hell do we need var exactly? It's literally the same as before var, only with more controversy, more time wasting, more soft penalties, more soft disallowed goals, and a potential for deliberate misuse aka cheating. VAR needs to go. And so do poor officials.

It’s not gone. Just no evolution same stupid BASIC simple rules. when a player gets injured big time, Broken leg why the time keeps running. Why don’t we stop the clock ? It’s simple and it doesn’t affect the result. Basic simple rules. When a goalkeeper keep the ball in his hand for 15 seconds nothing happens. Every other team sport who use Video they made big changes.

its offside , Fabianski would have had to try to reposition himself around the offside player who was backing in to him to have a chance of saving it(which he wouldnt have) so he is being impacted by an offside player..

Some officials are just bad. For years the excuse was the ref didn’t see it, now we have ref behind screen with different angles and minutes of replay yet they make bad decisions.

I would go back to the old rule which didn't take into account whether a player is interfering with play or not. I can never see how a player is never interfering with play anyway.

It’s tough, but I think all the VAR decisions were right, including Emerson’s goal after accidental contact with the defender. The Wolves player just shouldn’t be there. What is he going to do. If he runs out with the defence the goal stands, even if he’s offside. You just can’t give a goal for someone who is offside standing on top of the goalkeeper in the 6-yard box. Let’s have players exercising some intelligence.

As much as we may have got lucky at the end, Emerson’s goal was a poor call as well. Both teams during the game have been shafted by the incompetent officials just fortunate for us we just about won the game.

I feel for wolves but saying they've missed out on atleast 6 points which would put them ahead of man utd is just assuming man utd haven't had some shocking var decisions this season aswell (even the Chelsea pens were extremely harsh). VAR has been terrible for everyone this season except man City.

I'm certainly using the word corrupt. VAR is the perfect excuse and tool for the Premier league to guarantee the team who they want to win, win. I imagine the West Ham / Wolves VAR team are discussing behind the scenes. "Right what are all the things we can look at to disallow this goal? We need West Ham to win this one". (From a Hammers fan) It was pretty obvious to me in the West Ham vs Villa game that they didn't want either team to win the game to benefit certain teams around them.

It was offside he was blocking the keeper. The ball comes straight to fab he in the way. The fact the ball goes to the right should not change the outcome. He's interfering with play no matter how insignificant one feels the impact is.

Var needs to go, people need to stop kidding themselves with the excuse that "it's not var, it's the officials". Var is a system that can only be operated by officials. And our officials are more often than not, ineffective and show they don't understand the game. Even going as far to make bad decisions with the aid of watching a replay 30 times. As a lot of these decisons will come down to the referee's discretion, they are subjective. Therefore, the technology is rendered useless because it can't make that decison. We've also seen var decisions get progressively worse, which tells us these officials are not learning, even after 6 years and multiple controversies each year. So, we can only conclude that var is not helping officiate the game at all. We have more controversy now and more frequently than ever before. Has this made our game better after 6 years of using it? The answer is clearly NOPE. So why are we still having it?
