I honestly think *just* Superboy is appropriate if you're thinking the original version, not some new-52 or other shitty version that's part of a universal shake-up designed to sell comics that ends up selling less because they're gimmicky, uninteresting, and alienate current readers.

@@gregfeelynegsyourfavoriteverse Superboy is tied with Robin (Tim Drake, obviously) for my favorite superhero. I really enjoyed the first 50 or so issues of his series (my comic reading dropped off as it got too expensive). I am aware that the quality dropped pretty heavily in the later issues, but I greatly enjoyed them for a good, long while. Maybe not as good as Robin (stayed very strong up until maybe No Man's Land - some good stuff after, I think, but my reading dropped off around then anyway, so I can't really speak to it) or even some of my other favorites like Ultimate Spiderman or some of Kyle Rayner's Green Lantern run, but I thought they were really fun. Starting from his "Adventures of Superman" run through somewhere around issue 50, I thoroughly enjoyed them.

As a Superman fan… I kinda love how this episode ends, it demonstrates the power of characters like Clark Kent or goku. Their so unstoppable, if they decide to fly fast enough to light the atmosphere on fire. It’s nuts!

What I love about the series is how brutal it would actually be. Especially for the newer team showing up, just shows how efficient and seasoned the previous team was and that these newer heroes will really have to step up their game to handle end of the world scenarios like the aliens. The show just keeps getting better and I can’t wait for you to see the rest of the show!

rewatching the opening scene gives you a real appreciation for how efficient the old Guardians were: they instantly prioritized evacuation and civilian safety, knew how to give and take orders, were perfectly coordinated, and worked off of one another's strengths/weaknesses really well. It just kinda blows past you on the first viewing because you don't know how brutal the superhero fights can get and you're kinda caught up in them looking like wal-mart justice league, but when you see it a second time after watching the whole series, you can tell they put a lot of effort into writing the guardians to be EXTREMELY good at their jobs.

The cool thing about this show is that it tries sometimes to portray accurately what would happen if some of the cliches we always see in comics actually happened with real life physics, like that old lady obviously getting destroyed by Mark crashing at high speed even if he uses his body to "protect" her. It doesn't always do it, but when it does it really gives you a new perspective on certain DC/Marvel scenes, which at this point i find highly unappealing.

I just love the two wrinkles the show throws at you over the first two episodes. First, the obvious one with Omni-Man at the end of 1. But then in the 2nd, they bring in Teen Team, and you realize there are more superhero teams, and the world seems bigger and more interesting. And the show is going to follow more characters than just Mark and Omni-Man. It's great.

If he didn't believe him, he'd have no reason to freak out. Also you probably know that by now, but we actually know why Omni-man did what he did, he explained his motive in this episode!

The one thing I never understood about him destroying the alien planet is if the beard is because he spent maybe a month there (their time moving faster than ours) or if he was being rapidly aged (like they were on earth) but because he's omniman the only sign of it is hair growth. What do you think, Melon?

He spent a long time there. I don't remember exactly but he disappears into their dimension for about a week or so (cause yeah, in the comic he doesn't go voluntarily into their dimension, he gets caught by surprise and pulled in), but a week or so in "our" dimension is months if not years in theirs. As for the aging I can't really say much without spoiling things but he just ages, the beard grows, because he spends a looong time there.

Keep on the ride. I won't spoil anything but I like that you are thinking off the beaten path to try to figure out Omni-Man's motivations. I have to ask how familiar you are with DC Comics lore in regards to things like The Justice League or Superman? That could be a good dive for you, tackling Justice League and Justice League Unlimited and then going back to the even older Batman and Superman cartoons from the same continuity. I only suggest that as JL and JLU are probably THE best at scratching that super hero itch with some pretty in depth writing. If you aren't familiar with old school comic book universes like those of the Marvel and DC stables and more knowledgeable about things like MHA or other animes like One Punch Man then some of whats being done in INVINCIBLE might not land in quite the right way. Invincible is very much an homage to Marvel/DC comics and as such the universe operates along the lines of the conventions of the mainstream super hero comics made by those companies. The Guardians are mostly homage characters to what is most popularly thought of as the most iconic and powerful version of DC'S Justice League Of America, sans Superman, who is a member, but here his doppelganger Omni-Man was an ally of the Guardians but never a member, though he still worked with them as well as the government through Cecil and his organization. You can see who each Guardian member is aping just from powers and general character traits, Red Rush is Flash, War Woman is the Wonder Woman equivalent, the kind of split Martian Manhunter's powers of shape shifting and phase shifting between two other characters but it mostly tracks for people like me that know this super hero stuff after years of fandom. Even with knowledge of say the MCU the full sense of how suoer hero worlds generally work in American comics doesn't always come through in modern adaptations like films or video games. So yes, there's often some kind of "government" organization like SHIELD in the MCU that liaisons between legitimate government authorities on Earth with the super hero community, there's rarely if ever some kind of santioned, government authorized and funded training or licensing system for super heroing. The kind of base assumptions on the narrative is that it would be ultimately futile for authorities to thwart or control these free agents but it's also unnecessary since wherever on the spectrum of actions a super hero would take, ultimately they side on upholding law and order. Fantasy? Sure, that's granted, but it's kinda part of the buy into the super hero narrative, at least American ones. In many ways Invincible is an homage to not only the DC Superman mythos but the story, in focusing on Invincible in both his heroic on the job dramas but also giving Mark Grayson, teenager going through a lot of tension and turmoil at home and school in his personal life very much mirrors the most classic version of Peter Parker Spider-Man's most popular and influential era of comics. Please do continue the show. It's a wild, emotional, action filled ride, and when you're done you have not only an ATOM EVE special one shot but season two of Invincible starts next month on Amazon.
