Seeing him perform this as an older man lends the song a real bittersweet, retrospective quality. I love it.

How many times has he sung this song? And yet here, with just Mark, a guitar and minimal backup, and he can touch people to the core. Brilliant!

This is like getting that special bottle of brandy out on a winters evening infront of a crackling fire. The moment sinks in and you just know everything is alright. Beautiful

The best thing about Mark Knopfler is the fact that his voice is so unique , he never stretched it too hard which is why it’s still the same now as it was 30 years ago. True inspiration to me.

No autotune, no click tracks, no editing...................Just a legend and artist, a guitar, a piano and a shaker.

This version actually made me super said. Mark's older voice actually makes it sound like an older person, telling the story of long lost lovers. Makes a stronger impact than the original recording when all the band was younger.

This song is both hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking...in a way that saddens me to be thinking that my life, at 67, is mostly behind me now...and that I missed out on my Juliet. I still think of her, 50 years later, and the kiss we never shared.

I found my true Romeo when I was 25, but he was already taken. After 5 devastating years we realized and accepted one can't built your happiness on someone else's heartbreak. So we went our seperate routes. I'll be 63 this year, after almost 40 years I still remember and cherish our every ❤ moment spend together❤ ❤

I listened to this song for the fourth time and started thinking about my wife who died three years ago and my heart hurts and my head hurts and the tears are running down my cheeks and I Miss her So Much. I can't write any more. 😪

Saw Knopfler in Belfast years ago....the stage fell into darkness, he was sitting with a steel guitar on his lap and a spot light from the back was shinning on him....he reflected the beam around the theater and audience... The place was in silence and then he struck up with the start of Romeo and Juliet.!!!! The place fucking erupted......

The song lends itself completely to the fragility of his aging voice, it shows how timeless the narrative is and the line "ill love you till i die" . That comes one day for all of us.

Hi, I first listened to this song when I was 10 years old, I was pretending I was a ballerina dancing about the lounge area in the children’s home at the time. This was my first musical experience. We were never encouraged to listen to music,or anything else for that matter, we were the unwanted children of an era where if you were conceived out of wedlock you were taken away from your parents, adopted,if you were lucky. But for me, a sentence from hell within an institution ( children’s home). This song that I happened to hear on the radio, just once , was my saviour in believing that there was something beautiful, creative, something more than the misery I experienced at that particular time going on in the world outside, from then on, I promised myself that I would sing, play, write, to all of the other children and give them a sense of comfort. Iam a Nurse now, I still sing to patients and still see the profound effects that music can bring to people of all ages and backgrounds. Thanks Mark.🙏
