Love this channel. Deserve a lot more subscribers. I get a sense of your neutrality in the videos..the "this works for us" vibe. Keep up the good work. A playlist on all things scope/retitcles/magnification/ffp vs sfp/ etc ... to get them in one place for people looking to invest in a scope... I'd watch 'em all! I like how you illustrated how distracting the busy reticles can be. I had a similar instinct for a clean reticle and you helped me be more certain that is what I want.

Great educational piece. I really am enjoying your channel. Have been a pistol shooter for many years and had a work mate take me to a 1000 yard range before lockdown. What a blast hitting 3 out of 5 with his .284 - I know I have the bug for LR shooting with all the videos I now watch of you both. Keep up the good work. Cheers from an Aussie now residing in NZ.

I'm fairly new to using scopes and red dots. This video has made it very clear as to understanding. The only question I have left is where to line up on reticle to assure ill be on the bullseye or just outside at different distances after zeroing at 25 m.

Great video. I went from a sfp mil-dot to a ffp grid a few years ago and have not looked back. Either coyotes or ground squirrels at various distances required the switch for less math. I prefer to not touch the dials and use hold overs. My personal "range" is out to about 1 mile off the porch of our house, and my varmint and predator territory is from 0-2.5 miles in the hill country. Dialing up/down would take too much time on a hilltop trying to zap a yote. With all the options out there I was able to find a reticle that served my daily needs Again Great video. You are a wealth of knowledge. 🍻from 🇺🇸

I'm halfway through the video and I have to pause and comment. This subject is/can be much more complicated than can be covered in a few minutes of video. I applaud you for making this effort and doing an OK job so far but you could probably write a 500 page book on the subject without repeating anything. When can I expect the first edition? Ok... back to the video...

Good stuff as usual. I prefer simple duplex out to 300 yards. Out to 600 a simple 3 hash mark(elevation)with 2 hash mark (windage) is all I need. I don’t like busy reticles either. And 2nd focal plane good enough. Will try a plain milliradian reticle for 700 to 1000(FFP). The ranging capability (when knowing target size), seems interesting. I suppose it could also be used as a simple BDC as well; when you learn your cartridge drops and wind. Always a good source of practical information that Sam provides. And always explained in an easy to understand manner. Thanks Sam! This will certainly help when one is deciding on a scope.

I like a ffp Christmas tree reticle and have a few different optics I use for hunting but I use those same rifles for target shooting and playing at range also nothing like yall but a thousand yards and in. Now one thing I learned is they have to be illuminated otherwise you cant see the reticle in low light. I think if I was doing what you do I would definitely go with a cleaner reticle like you're talking about for the same reasons the more you can see the easier you can spot your own impacts... great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

Really like this video. There are a jungle of scopes and reticles out there but few really nice video's about it. Personally I find the German #1 works pretty well for hunting situations. Unfortunately it's difficult to find scopes with a fine German #1 today. But for long range It's definitely the NF MOA-T in Sfp. Cheers mate!👍

Top info here. I am like you in that i like clean ret. Ive got a bdc in both my main rufles and in honesty i never use them. If its a ling shot i dial if its within 300m or so i simply aim at the top of the animal or target. I wish id gone with a duplex

Makes me wonder if a more complicated reticle might be better for beginners. With more expertise one can read a simpler scope with more confidence. I'm a beginner and love the ability to hold accurately with with a million hash marks.

My favorite hunting reticles are German #1's and German #4's. I like 3-9's on my 22's with FCH and Duplex reticles for dimes at 100yds, too much fun! I realize, however, that there's one thing that I don't have to worry about too much at 100yds and that's wind. Bullet drop is simple because graviy is a constant but understanding the wind currents from your favorite ridge to those fields, pure magic! Enjoyed the explanation of the Christmas tree reticles. Take care and be safe!

I have a question for you I am mounting the night force beast 5 to25 on my Remington 700 target tactical 308 and I see that it has 120 minutes of elevation the night force scope mount has 20 Moa the pic rail I’m looking at has 40 moa for 60 total. Is that too much? Or would it be better to go 20 on the mount and 20 on the rail for 40 total
