I really hate these concubines. They never once cared about Lingyi's feelings. Now they're upset because he doesn't give them the time of day. Concubine Wen is one of the worst offenders because she used his status to enrich her family. She didn't care about him until he fell in love with Shiyi. Now she wants to blame Shiyi for all of her misfortunes. He stopped visiting her long before Shiyi married into the family. He stayed away after he saw firsthand the greed of his concubines. If it wasn't for Shiyi he wouldn't be engaged in his sons lives right now. Everyone thinks that Shiyi is exactly like them which is why they continue to blame her for everything. Shiyi has treated his concubines with the upmost respect. It's funny how she's blaming Shiyi for her son being sent to boarding school but has no problem using him for her scheme to get back at Lingyi/Shiyi. The GM has always show partially between the brothers/she's the one that wanted to keep them separated now because of concubine Wen's actions it's going to make things even harder for her son. She never once took into consideration the damage she was doing to him. Unfortunately she got off easy. Her punishment should've been much harsher but in the end they were thinking about Yu's best interests something his mother didn't consider.

I feel bad for Yu, as he was just used by his mother. Wen got off lightly, she should have been severely punished as she almost destroyed the entire Xu family. That embroidery piece was very beautiful and a lot of hard work by a lot of people went into making that piece. I hate that the stupid concubines always blames Shiyi, as it not her fault, they just want to blame her for their misfortunes.

It's funny how she showed no real interest in Lingyi until he started to fall in love with Shiyi. All she cared about was using his status as a way to benefit her own family. It was NEVER about him. She didn't care one iota about him and that's the very reason why she never gained his favor. She used her own son to hurt Shiyi and the Xu family. Every last concubine found some reason to blame Shiyi for Lingyi's distance but they never once considered their own behavior. She was still upset that Lingyi didn't sleep with her on her birthday...lol

@@shontelagrone8713 It all boils down to the daughter of a concubine who captured his heart when they couldn't get close enough to do anything to win his Favor. If they did they could have had more children.

@@luciesmom3111 true... they were all consumed with themselves...so much so that they never once cared about him... Concubine Wen was more concerned about her family/helping them than she was about him...even if it meant supporting their illegal activity...Concubine Qin was still mourning the death of her child/being barren that she couldn't focus on anything else...well besides her revenge....either way neither of them tried to understand him. Shiyi was different and that's what bothered them the most.

He really didn't take so many willingly. The reasons behind having all three and the one that died was explained in the drama. Concubine Wen's family paid a lot of money to have her married into the family, Lingyi needed the provisions for the army they provided and he was also young and trying to build up the family after his father and older brotherwere killed. His mother appointed Concubine Qin to him as she took care of Lingyi when he was injured and we all know how Lianfang became his concubine, that was her decision. Lingyi tried to avoid that one. With Amber's sister, he took her to save her reputation as they spent the night together due to Yuanniang wanting to keep his favor while she was pregnant with Zuhn. They didn't sleep together as Lingyi was drunk, but they were in the same room. Lingyi was filial to his mother and only when pushed with taking Dongqing as a concubine to suppress Shiyi, he finally put his foot down and decided he would take no more concubines. That was the norm amongst wealthy families during that time.

They were forced upon him for the benefit for the family to create political or financial alliances. These are not wives. The are lower classes women who married up for wealth and status.

many women in the past were treated like property and pawns used for alliances. some men enjoyed it and some don't.

He really didn't have much of a choice, even with taking Shiyiang as his wife, it was due to his promise to Yuanniang before she died. Just like with the Emperor, he really didn't have much say in who his Empress would be especially if his choice didn't benefit the kingdom and he was Emperor, that was usually decided by the Empress Dowager.
