MARRIAGE DYNAMICS (Vol. 3)
Mystery about Marriage
Marriage is a Ministry!
God said to Himself, “It is not good for the man to be alone, I will make a helper suitable for him” (Gen.2:18a). If meeting others’ needs is regarded as ministry, then marriage is a ministry. It is a ministry of helping one another and not helping only oneself.
Marriage is not a univocal but a bilateral ministry. You don’t marry a person in order to become a burden or liability to him/her. You marry because you have a ministry or task to carry out in the life of that person. Your spouse should not be your cross.
Marriage is a Mission!
What are you going to accomplish with your spouse in life? Marriage is for a purpose. Your marriage will determine the mission of your life. Everyone has a mission in life. There is a purpose for your living. Your mission is your purpose. Your marriage will influence your purpose. Marry for purpose and not for pleasure.
You have a mission to accomplish in your marriage. You need to marry someone who will help you accomplish your mission in life. You also need to marry someone you will help to accomplish his/her mission in life. Marriage is not about you; it is about the two of you. You are to succeed together and not you alone.
Marriage is not meant for gaining but giving. Sometimes, who you marry will determine the success or failure of your mission in life. The person you marry will either help you to accomplish your purpose in life or not. Ask Samson in the Bible and he will tell you what Delilah did to him.
Are you marrying or have married for a mission or recreation? Don’t marry for mansion but marry for a mission. The ultimate mission of marriage is spiritual. This is the greatest mission. (Ref. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10).
Married couples are God’s representatives or ambassadors to one another in the marriage and in the world. They are, first, missionaries to one another. They are to represent Christ in the marriage. They have the mandate to reconciling the world of their marriage to Christ. But charity must begin at home.
Married couples are missionaries to the world.
They are not only God’s image bearers, but they are also light and salt in the earth. They are to show the light and salt that they are meant to be in the community where they live through their Christlike marital relationships.
