Cogic Bishops are known for NOT holding there Pastors accountable. I had a experience with a former friend who was a Pastor in cogic. When I told another Pastor, they blamed me and encouraged me not to say anything and instead allow God to handle it. I decided to go above that Pastor and speak to the Bishop and all he said was for me was to write him a email and ended our meeting. That Pastor continued preaching, and rumors circled the church about me until I decided to leave and cut ties with the ministry. So trust me I know how they cover stuff regarding there pastors in a effort to not ruin the church name. They blame the victims and protect there own.

Thank you for bringing this to light. I am the “secret” daughter of a COGIC Bishop- I was always referred to as the “God daughter” and hated ever minute of it especially when we would be out to dinner and random church folk would come up to greet him. I know we talk about the wrong doing of the people within the church…what we don’t talk about is the children that get hurt in the process. I don’t have a relationship with my fathers older children (they are 15+ years older)and I never will. It’s been 10+ years since I step foot in a COGIC church with no plans on ever going back.

I am a COGIC baby. This stuff has been going on since Bishop J.O. Patterson. This occurred under Bishop Blake not Bishop Sheard. Bishop Sheard took over after this. Bishop Sheard is cleaning up COGIC. My father began as a COGIC pastor and later went non denomination. I know COGIC very well so give Bishop Sheard some time he just took over COGIC about two years ago and I see a change. Bishop Sheard believes in holiness, but the last Bishop did a lot of damage to that holy living. There is also opposition within COGIC some want to oppose what Bishop Sheard stands for. Mother Kelly is 90yrs old and she has paid her dues, let the Bishops handle what Bishop Blake should have taken care of back in 2014.

My point was the black church no matter what denomination acts as if its the norm for pastors to prey on the women in the congregation and move on as if nothing happened and is never held accountable!! Then will get up in the pulpit every Sunday morning and talk against the very thing he's doing wrong😳. It's the hypocrisy for me!!! When I broke my silence to leadership they told me it was an "affair" and refused my request to pay for counseling!! They let him address the congregation right before a vote to keep him or fire him and of course it swayed the vote and he's still the pastor. He did the same thing in Texas with another woman and they found him another church which happened to be the one I was attending where it happened to me and a couple of women prior to me!! No accountability at all!! Of course he was suspended for 6 months in my case then "restored" with ridiculous conditions. Meanwhile I got zero support from the church I was so heavily involved in and was vilainized, shunned, etc. It's a shame that this kind of stuff keeps happening in these churches!!!

I hope you’re not heart attacked with your surprise because it has been addressed. Unfortunately with any denomination you’ll find fault. Look at the Catholic Church. Look at the Baptists scams. Don’t hate on COGIC fir unjustifiable reasons. They can’t control what people do AND Bishop Sheard did not know about this situation. Nor did Mo Kelly, First Lady Sheard or the anointed Bishop WooDEN. The tone of the person telling of these unfortunate events sounds bitter toward these people he mentions. COGIC does not tolerate this behavior and before you speak of a situation PLEASE have ALL facts straight. Be blessed

I agree with you. Many of them have finally found their voices. Back in the day they used to send victims away. When girls would get pregnant by those old pastors and bishops they’d go “live with family out of town” for a while and then resurface and someone in the family would be raising the baby as their own. Boys were being molested and everything would keep silent. This isn’t new and it’s so sad. To anyone who’s been violated, find your strength and Speak out!

I stopped going because all the bishop seemed to talk about was members not giving enough money, after quitting his job. I felt like if we can work to pay our bills, he could too. What was he doing the other 5 days a week he was not in service? I thought "ya'll can give that man your bill money if you want to, but I'm out".

This is a shock to me bucko. In fact here in California this shit is bonkers and I haven’t heard nothing about this on any media (main/social) speaking on this or the Dali lama molesting that kid as well. Yet no one is talking about that. Is the world full of pedo’s? I’m convinced that everything done is to get closer to kids. A kid shouldn’t be learning about sexuality or gender. Dawson you hit the nail on the head when you asked the question why hasn’t prominent leaders of the COGIC denomination not addressed this situation. This is only one of many other allegations of Bishops in their churches who have been arrested and in many cases charged for sexual abuse and misconduct. But I think I know why their leaders are reluctant to confront their bishops because some of them are doing the same things. Or they just don’t want to deal with it as if it didn’t happen. It’s hard to condemn sin when you not willing to acknowledge its right in your own backyard. Clean up your own house before you start judging and condemning others because right now it’s messy in your own house!

Just another day in the Church of Guys In-taking Cash (COGIC). As long you meet your report and you are not an out-of-the-closet gay, you are good to go. No accountability needed. I was born and raised in that church, my family goes back with them for many generations - but it stopped with me. I left them and their corrupt behinds in the dust and I have no regrets about it.

I don't know what the Bishop and his wife is doing about that,but Evangelist Francis Kelly does talk about all of the vile stuff going on in the church,she talked about the pastor's in COGIC with boys,woman with woman,pastor with other women in and out of the church.Yes she does talk about all the ungodliness and said these pastors,members,whoever is doing this need to be stripped of their church and title.I've known her for over 40 years,but she does speak out.She will not hold back.

This grieves my spirit so...I am a Pastor's daughter & my father has been pastoring going on 51 years & has never been in compromising positions & has never been accused either. I do know that cases like this are happening a lot more with younger pastors because they are conforming to this world to remain popular & having power & money is the vehicle to their downfall. They are not receiving the wisdom from the Bible nor from the elders because they are not praying & asking for accountability. This has to stop! I am not in agreeance with people attacking you Dawson because you are REAL & you speak out about what is wrong in the church & bring awareness for change. There seems to be many COGIC pastors who have quietly come into the church not having been delivered themselves. The presiding Bishop and the board must get control of this issue!!! One is afraid to be the other's Nathan because they both want to keep their errors undercover. We all have done wrong but we csn help each other through accountability and repentence. Let's do prayer and the work! We must because SOULS are at stake. No more undercover indiscretions!!!

What makes you think the COGIC leadership is not concerned or isn't saying anything about this situation? Considering it is a legal matter, you should assume legal counsel has instructed them to keep silence while the case is going through the due process.

Probably churches overall pattern of pretense. If logic ruled your statement makes sense but all if us know real world examples where church authorities do nothing and pretend that such 'behavior' can be whitewashed. That makes many feel that the church as hospital is simply a place where dry bones of deceit reside
