No one could play the part of Bill Tilghman like Sam Elliot, and no one could narrate it better than you. My Dad grew up in times of Bonnie, and Clyde, and several other villain's, all he had to say was, "they were cold blooded killers." They try to romanticize, and make these insane people look good, when making movies, not the real likeness of them. Some people say, "they robbed from the rich , and gave to the poor," but they gave to their selves, without thought for others.

Outstanding. Bass Reeves is a Lawman that deserves to be recognized. I was a Lawman in my youth. U.S. Deputy Marshal Reeves and Sheriff Buford Pusser were my heroes. When I was a kid.

Fascinating recent history. NYC had telephone service in 1884 and subway service in 1885 while our people were dealing with outlaws and street shootouts. Mr Skinner thank you for bringing these vivid stories to us to remind us of the valor of the lawmen and their families.

I am so glad you did something on Marshal Tilghman as I have an uncle who grew up with his son. My uncle was born on Oklahoma when it was a territory and he used to tell me stories about him. Tilghman was more real and is so underrated compared to many others. Not many would want to be doing his job at 70. Thank you for this video.

Jerry rules. He's like the grizzled old ranger and guide at the national park. I feel like I'm in the car with him on the interstate as he turns off and heads into the quiet country hamlet where the historical event took place, and a monument marks the site.

Do you know what type of handgun Marshal TILGHMAN carried on the night he was murdered? The movie shows him carrying what looks like a Colt Peacemaker. Yet an online article posted by someone who said he was Marshal TILGHMAN’s relative said he was carrying a”pocket pistol” due to an unspecified medical condition which precluded the Marshal from wearing a traditional gun belt. Thanks in advance. Great video.

I got to tour Bill's house in Chandler Okla. His room is upstairs on the left or upper East room. The balcony was his fortified shooting platform for cover the north side of the house. His wife's kitchen was large for the day and time. She cooked food for the inmates of the jail. His grave is on a cemetery hill on the west side of town.

Great documentary, so interesting. Bill was a handsome man and a true hero. Jerry, have you narrated any books? If not, you need to, you have an awesome voice and inflection for narrating. I have tried to listen to western books but so many narrators have a flat voice and I just can't listen.

Wow....great documentary on Bill Tillman. Thank you Mr. Skinner....it was so interesting. The State of Oklahoma should clean up a two block area around the Monument of Tillman....in Cromwell. What a dump that treacherous city turned out to be. That is what they received for being the place Tillman was killed when he tried to bring law and order to the corrupt city. I use to work in and around a lot of these places in the oil field and; I heard all kinds of stories about the Wild West and the crime in most of these early Oklahoma towns. Well; oil field towns are still as wild as ever. Or; was up until the big boom bust in 1980 /81. Getting into a fist fight, knife fight or simply stabbed usually in the legs or cut up real bad was as easy as simply walking in a dark bar and trying to get your night vision and someone would lip off and a smart ass comment was all it took Or; “by god if you kick my ass; I’ll buy the beers if you lose; you’re buying the beers for the whole damn night and you’re be in a full out knock em out fight. Afterwards! The loser would be paying or go broke. I was an oilfield welder and we worked the rigs by day and partied drank and fought till 1: or 2: am just about every night. If someone was missin; they were more than likely in jail and waiting to get bailed out. One town was so rough they had every table and bench seat bolted to the floor and after midnight they collected all the glass mugs and bottles and exchanged them for Dixie cups and free beer till 12:30. That was in Sayer, Oklahoma and every night. I saw some really good fights and participated in many. The oilfield day’s was fast and furious and I made up to $52./hr with my welding rig and there’s no part of a drilling rig I haven’t built. Then; I became an offshore commercial diver and welder but the oil patch was 100% domesticated and tame and frickin boring.

The truth behind the movie? Pretty much all of it.

Bass Reeves has them beat by a mile if there was anyone else who outdid Wyatt Earp Bat Masterson and Bill Tillman it was Bass Reeves you should do a video on him next the best US Marshal in history
