Slow fishing trips are part of life, but no outing on the water can stay minimally productive when conditions are perfect on a beautiful fall day.
Marsh Man and his good fishing buddy Chris Macaluso didn't set the world on fire at the beginning of a recent trip into the marshes of South Louisiana, but they sure closed out the day the right way, yanking speckled trout after speckled trout over the gunwale of Marsh Man's aluminum boat.
It was the type of trip that makes autumn the best season of the year.

I am jealous that you get to box those specs. They've got to be 15" in Tx. Our daily limit near Matagorda is 5 trout. I have fished the birds some in the fall here in 5-10' of water and like to throw a bigger bait or heavier lead head up current of the schooling trout. Sometime the larger sows are on the bottom eating the scraps the schoolies are leaving behind. I guess they let the younger schoolies do all the work.

Hmmmm...I don't know Todd. $1,000,000 a year to come live right around the corner in Mobile? you could afford the trips back and forth on that pay scale! We've got some pretty darn fine fishing up here as well, but when we hit those huge schools of short fish we've got to keep moving. We've been on some great trout action in the 18-22 inch range ever since that first little cool snap. Its going to get crazy good with this truly cool weather that's sitting on us now. Water temps here have gone from low 80's to mid 70's in two days! Thanks for another great video!

The launch is by the Chef Pass and the area looks like between hwy 90 and lake Borgne , you can get there from the Rigolets as well--pretty big fishery. The main thing is, is reachable quickly from most of the metro New Orleans area without driving over an hour so you can fish it a lot and learn the area and how it reacts to different conditions--if I'm not mistaken, that's part of Todd's fishing philosophy.

@@MarshManMasson If you had to plfick one braid for an inshore baitcaster geared for trout, whats it's gonna be? I put fins windtamer on all my spinning reels, but am stil getting used to my lh retrieve 12 fishing concept. I like the 30lb suffix 832 on the baitcaster, haven't had any problems but haven't tested it enough. At around 13min when yall get on the school, any thoughts on chucking a double rig? Just wondering from your experience, cause you could end up with 4 fillets or another extra dink to get off the hook before recasting, what's your opinion? Ever consider double soft plastics under a cork, or not worth the hassle and tangle?
@MarshManMasson
@MarshManMasson 5 жыл бұрын
I guess if we wanted to maximize our efficiency we could have done that, but we were simply out for fun and a few fillets. We left feeding fish that were biting every cast before we even had our limit, so it really wasn't about the numbers for us that day.

Nice! Our subtropical climate allows speckled trout to thrive most of the year, and our extensive marshes (thanks to the Mississippi River) provide an abundance of edge habitat. We probably can't touch you on striper fishing, but our speckled trout population is off the charts.

tides4fishing is what I find myself using and it's by no means perfect. But if you're looking for a quick look at buoy data and tide info -- I don't know, maybe you're looking it up on your phone while gassing up en route to the da parish cause you got granted an unexpected fishing window -- it seems to do OK. Just keep in mind that the Shell Beach buoy listed on their site may be and hour or more behind the tide expectations once you launch out of the Hopedale area, or more if you head on a semi-longer rung south. Or, their readings may be slightly ahead if you launched somewhere in the Paris road area. Pay attention to weather and radar the most, you can catch fish on a crappy day if you find moving water with bait sometimes, but don't let fishing conditions distract from really bad weather possibilities. They also have a good bit of solunar information and barometric pressure info ratings on the website. I don't know or really care most of the time, because, like a lot of people, I fish when I can fish, not when I bullseye the tide and transit of the moon. But it cant be interesting to make note of if it matters or not once you see how you did based on the prediction of "fish activity". I'd love any of the tide forecast sites to incorporate up to date salinity readings. But hey, you don't know till you go and you'd be surpised sometimes when fishing conditions look like doo-doo on the internet and turn out to produce fish when you find the right moving water. Safety first as always, Thanks for the vids @marsh Man Masson
