No copyright infringement intended. The Vandellas kept the Motown money rolling in with their slew of hits. I extended this with authentic Funk Brothers backing.

OMG, that drum breakdown with the echo effect in the beginning and toward the end ! Such ear candy... typical of Motown to add such creative dynamics to their music. Maybe no one agrees with me, but I have always thought that Martha Reeves in her prime was the most exciting and dynamic of the female Motown singers. Her vocal on "Heat Wave" absolutely slays. Just my opinion, but if Richard Perry had let her really tear loose on her solo album instead of watering her natural soul down with too many bland songs aimed at the broader "pop" audience, she probably could've gotten a Grammy.

I enjoyed dancing to this as a teenager and later ( when I worked at Sak's Fifth Avenue ) had the honor of helping Martha Reeves.. She presented me with an autographed photo. An item I will always treasure..

Of course Martha sounds great, but the Funks and the clapping ,the Tops maybe Temps make this even more memorable.

It seems that Holland-Dozier-Holland and The Funk Brothers let Martha and The Vandellas swing...they rock harder on their songs than any other female Motown group they wrote and played for! Love the "shuffle" 4/4 beat on this song...go, Benny Benjamin!

I still love this today just like i did in 1963, it also has sentimental value to me. I also had the privilege to meet Rosilanf Ashford and Annette Beard on prrson and wss hangong out with them in Detroit. Thank God for that old music 🎶.

The original version was released on Nov. 4, 1963, and hit the Billboard Top 100 on Sat. Nov. 23. It peaked later at #8, becoming another Top 10 smash for Martha & The Vandellas.

These songs were the first noise my infant ears ever heard, on a crackly AM radio in the kitchen that my mom had on all day!
