Here's a crazy story for you. Martina came to Nashville from Kansas to become a singer. But even with that voice she couldn't get a deal. Her husband got a job as promotion manager and took her out on tour to help sell T shirts. But soon the headliner noticed her voice and ask her to become his opening act. Proof that the artist know more than the executives. We can all thank Garth Brooks.
@troyhagen9843

I think a lot of that is true as she did sell t-shirts at Garth Brooks shows but I'm not sure about all of it. I remember reading about how she sent her demo tape to RCA in a purple envelope with "requested material" written really big on it which is kind of an old trick singers used to try to get a studio to more likely listen to it. It worked as RCA then asked for an audition that her husband John, who is a sound engineer, then set up. She blew the executives away and they signed her on the spot. RCA then asked Garth, who was also with RCA, if he would consider letting her open up his shows. He agreed without ever hearing her sing because he remembered how hard she worked one time hauling dry ice up on stage helping her husband try to help keep his speakers and equipment from overheating one really hot day. Garth said the first night she opened for him he went out by the stage to listen and after hearing her sing a couple songs he couldn't keep the smile off his face because he thought everyone is going to think he's a freaking genius for picking her to open his shows. Either way they are both great stories. :)

@Paul Jenkins I'm so sorry you went through that. I too was brought up in an abusive toxic home. If my parents weren't beating the crap out of each other, they were beating and neglecting us children. My father is an alcoholic and my mother had undiagnosed mental health issues. It's still no excuse. I left their home just to end up in an abusive relationship with a guy who literally almost killed me, he beat me, raped me, and tortured me. I have PTSD, severe anxiety, and have attempted suicide. But I am in therapy and am finally getting better. My brother turned into my parents, he is verbally and physically abusive to every person he gets in a relationship with, and I warn every single one of them from the start. My sister turned to drugs and lost all of her children to CPS. She is clean now and doing much better. Child abuse doesn't just hurt in that moment, it leaves lasting scars on your brain that alter your perception and change who you are. I am 34 and when adults raise their voices I still cower, I don't drink, and when others are drinking around me my anxiety is through the roof.

I’ve always seen it as all those kids at the end were also victims of abuse and they were there to welcome her home. And the little boy was there before she died to help her transition. It’s heartbreaking. I was a victim of child abuse, luckily when I was older and had more strength, I talked to my mom about it and got the church involved and she went to anger management and started taking medication for depression and she stopped hurting me. She’s never hurt my younger siblings. I was one of the lucky ones.

This song shatters me ...I grew up in a small town.( in az) .big family...everyone so close.. ( over time my family lost so many to addictions and cancer ) ... I moved away to tn to work ... while at work I got sent 3 videos ( audio) ...I had to listen to them a few times because at first I didnt recognize the voices ...and I was in disbelief...it made me throw up even.. long story short my aunt in the audio was literally beating my cousin ( her great nephew) he was 6 and for 3 solid minutes u can hear her making contact with his little body .... and no one helped him....everyone walked out ( i cant describe the depth of helplessness I felt in that moment ... knowing I was hundreds of miles away and cudnt be there in person to stop it )...his sister recorded it and sent it to me ...I called the cops to stop her ...she then contacted me and said she had just snapped and I had betrayed the family and her by calling the cops and I told her ...the day she choose to put her hands on that baby is the day she herself betrayed the family ....there is no excuse in this world that could justify hurting an innocent kid.... if you see something..say something " it shouldn't hurt to be a child" .. I never imagined my family would have even been in this situation ...its heart breaking from every angle

You have to listen to Craig Morgan's "The Father, my Son & the Holy Ghost" that song can bring soldiers to tears.. It's so good that it was recently the #1 downloaded song a cross all genres.

I've been watching you for a while. I enjoy seeing you experience new music from different genres. Considering Martina McBride, if you want to hear a great one by her with a unreal vocal - listen to her song "Independence Day"

The best sing Martina ever sung was broken wing now that’s a tear jerking sing Martina didn’t want to sing this song when she was pregnant 🤰 it hurt her . Martina is a small woman but, man she can sure hit those high notes

Little fact about Martina you might like. Before she had a record deal, she was selling GARTH BROOKS shirts at his concerts. Because her husband was Garths stage manager. And Garth Brooks is who helped her get the record deal

Me and my two older brothers were abused growing up. Me and my oldest brother watched our dad beat our other brother off and on for several hours. In the end he was bloody, scarred, and bruised from head to toe. That was in 1976 and I can still hear my brother crying out... "daddy please don't kill me !". In 1975 when I was 8 my teacher noticed bruises on me, that I disrupted class a lot, and got into lots of fights and took her concerns to the principle which contacted my parents and told them they needed to take me to a psychologist. My parents both bribed and threatened me to lie about the abuse. I did, but left home at 14 to live with my grandmother 5 states away. My grandmother was my saviour.

I’m a 52 year old man now but that was my daily life until I left home. Spent many days as a youngster with a.41 pistol ready but he was lucky enough to not show up at the wrong time. Had my clothes stuck to me with blood from 3 till 17. Can relate to this song

The term concrete angel comes from the grave marker of Judith Barsi. She was only ten years old when she was murdered by her own father. She appeared in commercials and movies before her death. Her final role was as the voice of Anne-Marie in All Dogs Go To Heaven....

On a personal note alcoholism and domestic violence used to be a common thing in my family. Grandparents and great-grandparents. Reading my grandmothers diary(Sry grandma) after she passed away gave me a lot of prospective and really helped me understand some of her songs. In her case she was trapped with 9 kids. In 1950s she had no chance alone. I love my small-town, but it had an ugly side and this type of thing is it. The town knew about both sets of both situations and that they weren't all that nice at home. On the other side of the family, in this case my grandfather, picked his father up and threw him across the room because he punched his little sister. My grandfathers little sister was trying to stop their father from beating their mother. My grandfather was built short, stocky and all muscle, he was built like an OX. My great-grandfather was thin, scrawny, and short. But my grandfather was basically the provider of the house. His father drank is paychecks. My grandfather would literally take the beatings for his sibling because he the toughest person I ever knew. He was a very hard man as well, but I respect the hell out of him for who he was in the 40s. I've been looking for a spark to write a song about him. Anyways, Don't put it off, if your in a bad situation, things can escalate out of no where. People can get permanently messed up or killed in a flash. Just get out! Luckily I haven't witness many terrible things, but when things happen, there is now dramatic music or foreshadowing. It just happens. So don't! Don't put it off, don't give them a fifth or sixth chance, run do not walk to the nearest exit, do not collect 200 dollars (I'm being metaphorical with that last sentence). Take care everyone, we're all on this boat together. ~K
