I nearly had a coronary when you just slammed your fingers into the dustcap DX traumatic memories of children shoving the dustcaps in on speakers in display rooms or in their parents listening rooms.

When I was a little shit (2~5 y/o) I would put random small things (like legos) into the ports on my Dad’s subs. I had no idea what I was doing, I was a kid. I don’t have any memories of doing it, but my dad seems to never forget. Now that I’m decades older and an audio enthusiast, I understand my dad’s frustration. If you’re buying a ported sub and have kids of your own, before you even open the box, you better let them know *very clearly* not to put legos in the sub. If you’ve ever dropped a pick inside of an acoustic guitar, this is the same experience, but 10x worse!

It'd be nice to see some more comparable reviews on other subs it time, looking forward to your thoughts on future sub comparisons, good work love watching both yours and Gene's videos, top stuff boys, l was looking eventually going for the either 13 or 15 A renaissance electrostatic Martin Logan's and I'm guessing this sub would tie in with them fine, but would you use the electrostatic's for home theatre too ? Many places I'm asking here in Australia ( dedicated home theatre and sound stores ) are telling me that the electrostatics are good for 2 channel only and hopeless for home theatre so I'm not sure which way to go when the time and funds come along

Love the design and the added amenities of this sub. The added functions seem to insure proper room set-up and full use of the sub. I’ve had my 2 SB16s for about two years now and I tinker with them trying to get the best bass output. The 212 might be expensive but maybe worth it.

Thank you for the review. I have been pleased with mine. I need to re run the pbk. I missed the part where you could manually adjust certain frequencies. It took all my low end away to fix a null in like the 65hrtz range so I have been just leaving it off and running it without it. Great sub so far though.

Great review Shane! I’ve been waiting for this one. I’m a huge fan of ML subs. Having the onboard ARC is awesome and it gives you a ton of flexibility...like the choice to skip Dirac, Audyssey or full range ARC correction, if your the type of person who prefers to keep the sound of your speakers untouched by room eq. I find that it’s the sub bass frequencies that benefit the most from room correction anyway.
@jakewarner1993
@jakewarner1993 3 жыл бұрын
True, DSP correction can be good for full range if your listening room is way less than ideal to handle phase alignment issues or room reflections, but DSP really shines at reigning in sub bass frequencies and resonances. Take a top tier subwoofer and add some well calibrated DSP correction and you have some amazingly clean bass on your hands.

Well for it's price I can fill my entire house of subwoofers and even add subwoofers to the windows, fridge, Oven, toilet... as Extras :). It's not even a tough choice when we common citizens don't wan't to spend years of savings in just one subwoofer, so we can build something pretty good, massive and way more powerful for much cheaper even though it won't be as balanced as that however there are good tools to balance stuff up, calculate everything needed...

@@therealshanelee Well what I meant was more that almost no one need audiophile like subs or whatever this thing is... Anyone can build a decent budget subwoofer for a very low price that will probably make 95% of the people happy :) Also in DIY you can go crazy to like 18 inch subs or whatever you want as long as you have money and space or go with 10 inch subs for much cheaper and much lower space or even lower depending on room size, subwoofer specs and so on... In my super small room I'm totally happy with just my Logitech Z5500 subwoofer which is a 10 inch subwoofer, I have other 10 inch subwoofer (premade) that I bought recently but it sucks, will probably re-use it's box for a better project or just throw it in the garbage all together. Will try first calculating a better bass port for it and adding some padding in it to see if the subwoofer speaker can even get anywhere decent if it can't will probably buy a budget nice Dayton Audio subwoofer or other as the box seems to have decent air volume at least for a 10 inch sub...

@@guily6669 I am a common citizen and I find this sub to be quite affordable. I am seeing a lot of people chiming into these reviews with the “I can build that for 1/64th the price!” Yeah, and then you have a big ugly homemade sub. The fact is, some of us don’t want to build a subwoofer, we leave that to audio engineers to develop, test and manufacture. It’s is not up to you to decide what anyone needs. The market demanded a sexy ass sub with remarkable output, and martin Logan answered. These subs are actually cheap in comparison to ultra high end offerings many will ever know of (some are in the 35-40K per unit arena). You are entitled to your opinion, but just understand that there are people (like myself) who have the money, and have the same passions you do for audio. We all started off small at one point.

It was a trip during my last tour in Afghanistan. The Canadian army gives you 3 weeks during tours and they pay for flights hotels and some expenses only thing you have to worry about is personal spending. All you do is choose the destination and plans so for me it was possible a trip like that on my own would be in the 10-15k easy. In 2007 I went to the Seychelles. In 2005 I went to Thailand in 2002 Europe I took the train rented cars all over Europe and in 1998 I went to Brazil. I'm retired now but I've been all over love hot weather and traveling. So that's why I would give up my gear for your country hihi :)

@@rinalsingh1258 thanks well I guess it's fair to say when we have lived in the same place we get sick of it. Canada is beautiful but it's cold from sept-april. I usually drive or fly to Florida in the winter but covid put a stop to it until it goes away or under control but you have a very beautiful country very nice people also sadly when traveling you only see the good sides and I can relate to you being sick of it as I am of here thus the saying it's never greener on the other lawn. 🤪

I paused at 1:54 to say "That power cable doesn't appear likely to provide you the best from the subwoofer. I strongly recommend looking very closely at either the GR-Research B16 and/or B24 power cables. They are very specifically designed to inhibit RFI & EMI from entering the cable while also preventing RFI/EMI "crosstalk" between the hot and neutral lines, thereby substantially improving the power flow and resulting in an often substantially more efficient/effective/accurate SQ output from your/the amplifiers/preamplifiers/others you connect them to. I am not aware of any RCA cables from him, but 100% yes he also produces speaker cables designed for (and scientific testing backs the quality claims) substantial improvements in sound accuracy and performance." I cannot provide a hyperlink here as KZfaq often removes entire comments containing as much. It's gr dash (symbol) research period com, forward slash (symbol) cables. He has a channel here on KZfaq as well to view both of these cables and some of the results they created. Give them a look, I suspect they would provide you a substantial benefit over the original cable this subwoofer included.

@@keepingupwiththejones2933 lol that's really strange, people really rate JTR as true end game speakers, so why no review? Surely if you don't believe it's the best product out there, then your review can reflect that? No point in doing positive reviews only, otherwise how will we be aware of products to avoid?
