Look at the pure timing by Aravinda de Silva & Marvan Atapattu.... They chased the target convincingly against one off the best attacks of the world then. Its not slogging just pure timing with full range of shots.This tour was leading upto the 2003 World Cup.Thank You Marvan & Aravinda for the entertainment. 🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰🇱🇰

Atapattu is one of the forgotten heros whose career tragically ended due to dirty cricket politics. Much like Lara he had it but forcibly pulled out. In term of pure technical aspect he is one notch higher than even the great Aravinda. But Aravinda had elegance and extra ordinary timing. If u watch carefully Aravinda takes the ball bit later than Marven does but had a better control. Two maestros at their best. Legends.

Those days were really great. The players were really good to watch. Even the commentators were so genuine. They didnt brag about their own country players. They just simply made game more intresting to watch... Those days are long gone....

Not only Marvan but Arvinda de silva also was a Class act for srilankan cricket. I still remember his world cup 1996 final match winning century against Australia.

Marvan atapattu was Rahul Dravid of india , Jacques kallis of South Africa , Andy flower of Zimbabwe, Stephen Fleming of New Zealand , Steve Waugh of Australia, yousuf youhana of Pakistan , graham thorpe of England, shivnarine chanderpaul of West Indies during that time ! The common thing about all these batsmen is they belonged to same era and they focused on playing ground shots and play defensive when wickets were falling at the other end . They believed in playing more balls and let other batsmen play attacking games . That is why they are never compared with tendulkar, Lara , mark Waugh , Gibbs , Nathan Astle , saeed anwar , jayasuriya , Graeme hick , Grant flower ! Because they were hitters and they used to hit the ball in the air !

@@gregorypalamas4998 exactly, even Attapattu was better than these two Zimbabwe, Bangladesh slayers, Aravinda, Attapattu and Jayasuriya are all time 3 best batsman for Srilanka although Suriya was more power than elegance still he was better than Sanga and Jaya

@@moxx316clearly aravinda, atapattu and jayasuriya are better. But don't humiliate Sanga and mahela by bringing wrong facts. They weren't just bashing Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Don't u remember Mahela scored 50% of his international runs against India. So u think India was like Zimbabwe? Sanga was the most successful asian batsman in SENA. Even sachin couldn't be successful as him in SENA. Dude has 58 test average while 10/11 double centuries. And also Sanga and mahela together built the highest partnership in test cricket that's against proteas as well.

Sanath and Kalu are NOT the culprits. Jayasuriya was a superb test cricketer as well and Kaluwitharana did fairly well in test cricket. Jayasuriya wasn't a classical batsman but he could adapt to all situations. He made a hundred in Australia and a double hundred in England. That alone puts him way ahead of T20 sloggers.

Those days , fan of every cricketing nation know sri lankan team 11 players by their name. Everyone know who come after 1st down 2nd down 3rd down etc and their capabilities. Because every one can do magic when needed. If Opening fail , middle order finshed the job . If middle order fails, rest finish the job . If they fails last man Muttaiih muralidaran finish the job .
