COMPONENTS - The cards are of a good quality, and the storage solution holds everything well. My only complaint are the standee stands. They seem a bit tight on the heroes and nemeses, and there aren't enough of the generic ones for all minions/elites, so expect some damage over time on the bottoms of the standees. 0:00 - Introduction 0:28 - Nemesis Variety 1:12 - Action System 1:49 - Dice Tests 2:33 - Snowballing 3:22 - Hero Combos 4:17 - Final Thoughts

We are absolutely loving this game. The fun part is to mix and match heroes and aspects. Everybody brings something unique to the table. It is VERY co-op with players being able to help each out out.

Thanks for the review. I love the idea of the game, but it seems like a few expansions are required to polish the system out

Expansions or rule clarifications ir houserules… there’s already a lot of content here to start with!

Thanks very much for the thoughtful review. Sounds like you mainly like the game, but the snowballing can cause problems. A couple questions, if you don’t mind: 1) It sounds like the potential for snowballing is more likely to cause easy games than hard ones. Did you try the higher difficulty mode from the rulebook? If so, what impact did it have? 2) Does the game play differently at low player counts vs high ones? Thanks again.
@OneStopCoopShop

So the official difficulty modifier mainly makes the missions take longer to complete. I think if you added on a houserule to spawn more enemies at the same time, that would probably be enough to check the snowballing in an easy direction, but I haven't tested that. I've found the balance at player counts 1-4 to be similar. More enemies spawn, but you have more life and actions to spread around and attack. The most interesting cooperation was found at 3-4 players/characters though. I didn't try 5 players, but I don't expect it to alter the game significantly.

I appreciate the thoughts and the response, Mike. The way I read the rulebook, increasing the difficulty does actually increase enemy spawns…in a three or four player game. That’s because you treat the enemy spawn icons as being for a one higher player count, and that only increases the amount of enemy spawns if you have three or four players (thus using the spawn icons for four and five player games). That more enemies don’t spawn in a two or five player game is weird and arbitrary and probably just down to the iconography on the cards themselves, but at least there’s that…
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
@@steves1092 yeah, I honestly wasn't clear on how to apply the "+1 player count" thing, since spawns use different iconography, but there's a good chance you're right. And it's simple enough to say 1-2 player games jump to 4 player spawns as well, since they already balance the game by giving 1-2 players an extra action for each hero. I think that WOULD address some of my snowballing concerns, though it might push things too far in the opposite direction!

Yes, could be. I’m mainly just thinking of things to try when my copy arrives this weekend. Because from your experiences, my guess is that the default difficulty is tuned for groups of fairly casual players who tend to play pretty sub-optimally, which would obviously not be your group, and my group will likely blow through a difficulty level that is tuned in such a way. Interesting to see if the official difficulty slider makes it work better for my friends and for me.

Eldritch horror had the same snowball problem you get unlucky with dice rolls monsters spawn at worst possible locations you get destroyed with no chance of victory, other games complete opposite and you win with 0 challenge

I didn't notice that at all with Eldritch Horror. There's strategy to that if you catch it. I never had it that bad. EH is one of the best out there.

This game feels like it's going to be amazing (with a few balancing house rules)!! I love Eldritch Horror, but the events were the reason for me to get rid of it. The narrative of it is just really inconsistent (Mansions of Madness is 100x better than EH in this aspect). And after a good amount of plays, the events gets samey and feels like only a dice check that you don't really have much control on what you will test or what you are getting, especially with the expansions.

Why would Fantasy Flight release a Marvel cooperate card game when they already have a Marvel cooperate card game, which by all accounts is pretty popular? Will this be how they stop supporting Marvel Champions to move on to the next thing?
@OneStopCoopShop
@OneStopCoopShop Жыл бұрын
You could also ask why they would release more than one Arkham-themed cooperative game, and yet here we are with Arkham horror, Arkham LCG, Eldritch horror, final hour, elder sign… I don’t think one game using this IP negates or cancels the other

Well, to be fair they play and feel very different. Also, while DAGGER has it's warts and flaws, I would ALWAYS choose to play this if I had 3-4 people in my group. Marvel Champions turns into such a slog, in my opinion, the moment you go above 2 players 😅
