I enjoyed Kilmonger so much that I think they could have done an entire movie just on him. He was a great villain, but he could have been more than just a villain that gets defeated. He could have been Vader-like in that when he dies not only are you happy that he's dead but you're happy for him that he's dead, that his suffering is over. Michael B. Jordan had him down to where Kilmonger could really have been a tragic character.
@chrisd7047
@chrisd7047 6 жыл бұрын
I can only judge it based on how the character made me feel. I agree with most of what you're saying, but for me Kilmonger didn't quite reach the truly tragic level that Vader did. It's not a fault of anything, really, except for time constraints. Vader had an entire series of movies to develop that depth. Obviously I saw the potential for Kilmonger and MBJ to reach that depth, and the portrayal was deeply compelling for the not huge amount of screen time he got; the movie just ran out of time to get him across the emotional finish line. I wasn't emotionally invested in Erik enough to be anything other than glad at the justice served. But hey, if he reached into the bittersweet dual nature of tragedy for you and others, great. I don't want my argument to detract from that.

Idk, because Michael B. Jordan really spelled out his ultimatum. Like his namesake, he’s a killer, that’s the only way his character solves problems. If he was left alive he HAS to be imprisoned cause he’ll never stop killing for the throne or to reshape the world as he sees fit. He knew this, and chose death as we saw.

As a guy from Hong Kong, I found it funny that they think a Wakandan spy (who would likely be able to hide their Wakandan accent) would have a hard time blending in. Even when most people in Hong Kong are of Chinese descent, we wouldn't think anything of it if we saw a white man or a black man on the street. It's not that unusual to us, given that Hong Kong is an international city with people from all around the world.

Except, repeating myself again, it fits the character. Her character is a progressive millennial. And as a millennial, she quotes memes. The fact that the meme is outdated and hasnt been done for about a year makes it funny. Now, since comedy is subjective, I'm fine if you didn't find it funny. But you can't call it objectively bad because it didn't meet your personal tastes. It makes sense, it fits the character, there's a reason it's there. That's not bad writing.

David Blyth I thought it was very different. It wasn’t a upcoming hero or origin story like every other marvel movie or just another big superhero vs big villain movie. It focuses more on Wakanda and its lack of support towards the world and what T’Challa would do as a king. Whether Wakanda deserves protection or not. Why Wakanda abandons everyone else and protects itself. It was VERY different then every other marvel movie.

*97% on Rotten Tomatoes*- highest for any live-action superhero film, and it's 8.3/10 average rating is behind only the Dark Knight for the highest average rating of a superhero film. *88 on Metacritic*- highest for any live-action superhero film. *A+ Cinemascore*- one of only two live-action superhero films to receive this grade from audiences (The Avengers being the other) Film is on track to earn nearly (or maybe even exceeding) *200 million* domestic opening weekend, with foreign markets being unpredictable at this point. Could end up being a 1 billion dollar film worldwide. This is unreal, and this movie is deserving of all this praise and success. Every actor delivered, every character was well-developed with intricate backstories and motivations. Ryan Coogler does a helluva job building up Wakanda, and giving a richer history to the MCU as a whole. Hopefully Coogler comes back for the sequel, and I can't wait to see more from these characters in Infinity War.

Notice I didn't JUST put Rotten Tomatoes though. It's always nice for a film that you enjoy to get recognized by critics and audiences. I think that's why people pay attention to Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and Cinemascore. It's a fun thing for people who enjoy the film, and probably annoying to those who didn't.

My theater had a problem where they accidentally played Fifty Shades Free for 10 mins instead. The previews were odd, then no MSG to put on 3D glasses, then universal logo was out of place, had all of us mumbling what was wrong, then when we saw the title the entire theater burst out laughing hysterically. Took them about 10 mins to fix

I liked the parallel between T’Chala and Killmonger in the spirit world where when T’Chala went he started crying for his dad and said he’s not ready to be without him and his dad said “a man who hasn’t prepared his son for his death has failed” but in killmongers his dad starts crying and asked if he’s going to cry for him in which killmonger says “everyone dies, it’s just how it is around here”. Its like T’Chala was taught to care less about others but cares more and killmonger was taught to care about others yet cares less.
@samanthanickson6478
@samanthanickson6478 6 жыл бұрын
compelling thought! i had been thinking how killmonger's father was happy to see him, but when he asked him if there were tears for him, when kill said everyone dies, it was like there was no hope. that completely crushed his father, making him ask, "what have i done". like you said, it brings back what t'chaka said about being less of a man if you haven't prepared your son for your death. t'challa is plagued with indecision while killmonger is plagued with a murderous vengefyl rage. so, killmonger's father will suffer eternity knowing he didn't prepare his son or teach him properly for his death. that hurts. can they go get tchaka's brother's remains (forgotten his name) and bring him back to wakanda for a proper burial? he is still family.

The director (Ryan Coogler) came out and said that the Soul Stone isn't in Wakanda, and that Feige never recommended for him to put it in the movie, which means Marvel already knows what they're going to do with the Soul Stone. I still think Heimdall has had it this whole time. Mark my words.

I thought this was by far the best comic book movie (well written, character story arc, effects, everyone had enough screen time) that has been made to date. I can't believe they actually killed off Claw...I felt bad that he died...a friggin villian no less!!!! Costumes, tech, the fact that they hit political themes going on in the world. Pogo You wrote two words Dark Knight... If you read my entire post I wrote about the reference to War Dogs...hence I thought you were saying that War Dogs had come from "Dark Knight"... Try writing a complete sentence to what you are referring to next time. The only thing Dark Knight had going for it was the Joker and Alfred (acting wise) the movie in it's entirety falls short compared to BP.

Pogo Well you made an assumption ...like I said earlier write a complete sentence and you'll get your point across. As to your thought on unpopular - “Black Panther” is one of five films that opened with a $200 million domestic weekend (with $202 million), joining “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” “Jurassic World,” and “The Avengers.” It’s notched an A+ Cinemascore - becoming only the second Marvel film to do so - and is a must-see cultural phenomenon. Also it's still raking in the $... Dark Knight not even mentioned. The words cultural phenomenon were never associated with Dark Knight in any review online.$$$ don't lie when it comes to popularity. I get you like the Dark Knight...that's cool but you should quit while you're behind.

Pogo I could easily use the same argument against you. You can think what you like and I could tell you you're wrong. I can use logic and produce figures that prove you wrong and you'll still say I'm wrong. The quality of the movie Effects, Cinematography, Acting, Costumes, are by far better in the Black Panther movie. I'm not comparing franchises either. You don't have to agree me but that doesn't make me wrong. If you love the Dark Knight movie more power to you.

Thats the properties of Vibranium, it absorbs and reflects kinetic energy which is why only Vibranium can affect Vibranium and since X-Men is not in the MCU so I'm not gonna say about Adamantium. And Wakanda is not just technological advanced but they have some relations to Heliopolitan gods where each tribe worships a God. Like the Black Panther tribe represents Bast. The heart shaped herb grew in Wakanda and is passed down to the Black Panther almost like a super serum. Technically only the royal bloodline can challenge the throne since the heart shaped herb poisons you if you are not of royal bloodline. M'Baku is leader of the Jabari tribe also known as White Gorilla cult who is at odds with the rest of the tribes coz they don't like technology and believe more in being primitive and what is ironic about the vegetarian line is because M'Baku is known for killing gorillas and bathe in its blood and gaining his power. And T'Challa sister is called Shuri who in the comics did end up being Black Panther at one point. Shuri does not have outside influence but given she is a tech whiz she definitely has access to the outside world whether through hacking or other means whereas everyone is technology advanced they are still related to culture. And Everett Ross is not related to Thaddeus Ross. Everett is kinda like the intermediary between Wakanda and the US in the comics. Btw the Black Panther suit is nano tech so it forms to cover his body. I don't think they are gonna make Black Panther have the necromancy abilities where he can control the spirits of the Necropolis but who knows the Necropolis could still be something that ends up appearing in IW and be where the Soul Stone is since it is like the burial ground of all the Black Panthers. As for the end credit scene with Bucky they did mention the White Wolf which is a character from the Black Panther mythology though it was played as T'Challa half brother who is kinda the antagonist to Black Panther. But knowing Marvel they might not actually follow the comics. And I do not believe Kevin Feige will even introduce the X-Men and FF4 because it is still too early and they now have competition with Comcast offering a higher bid and it will be confusing if all of a sudden the current X-Men is related to the MCU. As for why I think the dream sequence did not show the rest it is because they did not have the blessings from the ancestors. And I honestly don't think they would make all the heroes be made of Vibranium it would be kinda dull tbh coz I feel like all heroes should have their own signature costumes and having all of them made of Vibranium would look the same. And Doctor Strange never took place in the 90s it was definitely around 2016 because there was the Avengers tower so that was not a Captain Marvel reference given she gets her suit and powers most likely from Mar-Vell

Spoiler Partially I think that in Civil War he had a small taste of the true Panther Herb because he was a Prince next in line plus a bodyguard for his father at the UN and I say that because he was almost at Cap's level but barely etched out, in this after the ritual he's dropping planes with a spear, as far as him not being trained you see his soldiers and him can keep up even with Killmongore herb or no herb so he's clearly highly trained without the power

If the location of the infinity stones does spell out Thanos then the soul stone would either be with Heimdall (maybe that’s why Thanos destroys Thor’s ship?) or have to do with the Heart Shaped Herb since it allows the Panther to connect to the souls of his ancestors (it’s not the same color but then again Loki’s staff was blue yet the mind stone is yellow)

Vibranium is just a very strong element, there are zero supernatural element in it. Black Panther's powers however, is in fact supernatural, gifted by the panther of goodness. I'm not sure how the MCU is gonna handle it, but that's how it is in the comics.

I'd love to see even more cultural diversity in the MCU. For example, a Chinese superhero would be very different to a Japanese superhero, or a Swedish one. Seeing that represented would be cool, especially when I know some people who ignore cultural differences and lump "Asian" into one big category, disregarding the fact that there are huge differences between South-east Asians and East Asians alone.

If the source materials have the character, I don't see how diversity would be a negative. I just doubt that the diversity of characters exist in Marvel; not super into comics, but a Google search turns up Jubi-lee and Shaman as the seemingly only characters with enough of anything to build a film around (and Jubilee only really counts because she can bring in more X-Men, tbh).

Going off the theory that the names of the stones spell out Thanos, I believe the Heimdall has the Soul stone. Two observations to support this theory is that his eyes are orange, which is the same color as the stone if they stick with continuity. The other supporting observation is that Heimdall tells Thor that he is able to see all the souls in the universe.

Black Panther was really smart with its score. Ludwig Goransson was the composer for this film. He has worked with Coogler in his two previous films as well. They met each other when they were students at USC. Goransson has also worked with CHildish Gambino and produced a number of his albums. All the music in Wakanda uses African instruments. They also use African hymns. They use some western orchestra. T'Challa's theme used an African Talking Drum, which played in a way to make it sound like the drum was saying his name. The theme also has an orchestra in it, along with royal horns. There is also a slight hip hop beat in it, as the base for the track. It supports the rest of it, and is barely noticeable. And of course, there is the awesome chanting of his name Killmonger's theme has African instruments in it, mixed with hip hop elements in it. This represented how he is Wakandan, but is also American, and that makes him who he is. Also, there is a flute sound in his theme... If you listen closely, you can hear that the flute players are chanting/shouting "Killmonger" through the flute to create that sharp sound. Here is the composer explaining some of his approach to composing the score: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Zr6kdtF4uZamYmQ.html

If the spirit plane is related to or works like the soul gem then anyone who enters it leaves a piece of their soul there which means Kilmonger would be among them. He was technically anointed king and went through all the rituals including visiting the spirit plane. His father probably went through some of the ritual being a royal heir at one point.

My theory, and it might be a stretch is that the last stone is in Adam Warlock's cocoon. It works with T.H.A.N.O.S. in two ways: 1) Adam Warlock is commonly referred to as Him and 2) Adam Warlock is an artificially created human, or as we know them as, a Homunculus.
