During the war, Captain America took down the Red Skull. But his arch enemy swore that three "sleepers" would rise and fulfill his ultimate plan in 20 years. Cap realizes that's right now, and the sleepers are coming. But what are they?

I had this episode on VHS tape as a kid and I loved it. The first time I watched it I enjoyed it so much I immediately watched it a second time.

This episode was the one that they seemed to replay too much in my area. I found it boring and never made it passed that first walking sleeper. I do love your retrospective and comments on these. also its very relaxing watching you pet the cat and I learned a little bit listening to you talk about tv repair and transistors in another video. Perfect recipe for delight. Thanks so much! Keep em coming if you can.

The Sleeper amalgamation might have gone to the nearest pole because of the whole Agartha/hollow earth mythology that Jack Kirby liked to draw from - like the Savage Land, for example. The Sleepers wouldn't even have had to dig with a good enough portal/cave. Note - this explanation is not an endorsement in the belief in a hollow earth, but this is Marvel comics, and hidden subterranean worlds are lots of fun.

That was a quite a gizmo Red Skull came up with. I bet Germany could have used it during the war, instead of it being a 20 year spoilsport measure in case they lost. I would have thought Cap would have turned over this kind of intelligence to army intelligence as part of his mission debriefings. Cap might be able to fight like a one man army, he doesn't have to be a one man army. I'd complain about the ending, but attacking the weak spot of a superweapon is pretty standard in adventure fiction. It just helps if you mention that a small thermal exhaust port right below the main port leads directly to the main reactor, instead of just getting a blowtorch and a parachute and doing... something... that makes it go kaboom.

& then make a prequel story 39 years later meticulously explaining how that exhaust port was there/worked and the people behind it

My understanding of Red Skull is he was the head of Hydra, which is a division of the Nazi Party. But his goals were far "greater" than Adolfs so he often was doing his own thing under the guise of it being for the Fuhrer, so he could do what he pleases and doesnt have ol Adolfs eyes trained on him. Of course thats my understanding of 1960s era Captain America onward, not sure how it was in the Golden Age storys

At this time in the comic history Hydra either didn't exist yet or nobody knew about it. It wasn't mentioned until the Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD appeared.

Well, that was boring. The story seemed to be 99.9% Cap standing around talking while people were dying/having their homes destroyed and 5% action with a final battle that lasted seconds. What else was going on in that issue that the editors thought needed to be cut down to this? I can only hope it was more interesting and that Cap didn't come off quite so useless until the end.

I seen this on November 12 1966. Back then this was the real deal. I even made a home made model of the 3 sleeper made from electrical tape, cardboard and plastic. I attached some string to the wing. I was able to spin it around like they did with the gas powered model airplanes they had back then.

Captain America went to the North Pole because of the North Pole is closer to the Earth's core. This because of the Centrifugal force of the Earth's rotation causes the lower latitudes to bulge out.
