Like I mentioned in the video, I don't think that speaks to the actual quality of the game. Role playing and playing with other people probably does make it more enjoyable but that shouldn't be the only thing the game is relying on. It's why I offered examples of other "punch the bad guy" games that are perfectly fun without having to survive on elements outside of their actual design.

While not 1to1 comparisons but the structure is certainly similar. Encounter a group of dudes, punch them until they stop moving, move on to the next group of dudes. Some dudes are just bigger and take more punches to knock out. Ultimate Alliance really only differs itself with a couple of puzzles here and there (and I'm talking like 5 across it's ridiculous length) some particle effects the game wants me to pass off as super powers and I guess numbers pop off on screen more often. My comparison was less about the actual gameplay execution (though it still mostly comes down to mashing the same two buttons until copies of the same enemies are dead) and more towards the structure and general gameplay loop. When it gets down to it, it's just a slight evolution of the base concept of a generic beat-em-up.

@@Wayneisboss Dude, they're two completely different genres. Streets of Rage is an arcade sidescrolling beat 'em up. MUA is an isometric action RPG. This notion that you "mash the same two buttons until copies of the enemies are dead" really implies that you're completely missing the nuances of both genres. We'll leave Streets of Rage alone since this is a MUA video (although many sidescrollers also have a lot more to them than "mash the same two buttons," such as positioning, collection of powerups, strategic use of powerups, blocking, parrying, etc.), and focus on MUA. The most major, obvious difference in the combat is the use of powers, which are a bit more complex than just particle effects (um, isn't everything that happens in any game an effect?) as powers results have varying impacts. There are so many different approaches one can take here. You can pump points into one power and make it berserk for insta-kills. You can synergize passives to become OP. Speaking of synergizing, I've seen moments when Thor was pushing an Ultron bot with lightning while Captain America's shield ricocheted into it as causing knockback and Spidey quickly followed up with a web throw that threw the bot off the side of the stage-- a bit more than just mashing two buttons. This type of thing happens organically if you're playing right. There's also flying to unreachable parts of the stage to find stat boosts, items and inventory management (turn off auto), story interaction between characters, trivia for XP boosts, sidequests that impact the ending, and much more. Where would you see any of this in Streets of Rage? Of course, you're not likely to fully understand this title if you only played on Normal. MUA vets know Hard is where it's at. That's where synergizing powers really starts to come into play. The combat really comes to life as the enemy amount and damage output both increase, which plays so well with all the powers you've unlocked. Newbies to the game really need a PSA to just use one of the easy cheat codes to just begin on Hard mode to begin with. I've played MUA for years since the day it came out. When it first came out, I thought it was a bit too simple too. That's because of what *I* was missing. It's unfortunate they nerfed some of the character building from X-Men Legends 2. Over the years, I've come to appreciate the depth of the title much, much more. But my obvious bias towards the title aside, this is still one of the weakest comparisons I've heard in recent memory. By this comparison, every shooting game is fundamentally the same. Contra is just like Call of Duty, because in both, you shoot respawning enemies in order to advance forward. Except they're really fundamentally different games that require different skillets and approaches, and if I make that comparison, all I'm doing is reducing both genres to their most basic common denominator.

Lol the age of the game is irrelevant, I've reviewed games much older than this that I had a much better time with and I think have held up better. This was my personal experience with the game If you loved this game and still do, that's awesome dude. No one can take that away from you, I certainly can't

I actually did have that activated for a short time but it actually made it too hard to control lol

I was pretty worried once I got to that level. I'm glad the rest of it wasn't quite that bad
