Captain Marvel represents pandering to a narrative she has a interesting creation story/lifecycle with different twist interns but even then she was not well liked as a character. She was placed as a feminist heroine. A feminist portrayal if you will of a woman who doesn’t need help from anyone else. She doesn’t need no man. Even all the strongest heroes could not match her in power. She didn’t really have any weaknesses, she just had all the powers and could do anything and end of story. The comics use that character better, but fiege and marvel have become these woke entities and so they purely used the feminist pandering portrayal of the character and that’s it. She’s used to appeal to that main stream narrative. On top of that they decided to get a actor who pretends to be an actor because in actuality she’s in entitled ignorant activist. Now what you do in your free time is your business and you can support or do whatever the hell you want. But when you inject all of your projects that you’re a part of and use them as a platform for your agenda, it turns the project into a disingenuous medium. To say it makes it cringe he is an understatement. Because the injection becomes so overwhelmingly obvious and centerfold that it completely pulls you out of the world or the character or the story or whatever it is. (Well, I mean, Hulk saved him, but he still was able to survive that experience non the less). Also, talking about the Infinity War sacrifice and for the sake of it, also the Avengers one, those happened before he had a family. In Endgame, the stakes of his survival are higher because he now has a family that his death can heavily affect, so he would try to find any other, alternative solution rather than sacrificing himself but... well... you all saw the movie and what happened there, now didn't you?

The point is that sacrificing oneself is like a huge mental weight because it goes against one of the main ideas of any LIVING being so to do that requires another idea, bigger than just living, to convince you to say, and I already discussed what that idea is, mainly (Though not completely) his family. So basically, Tony meant by what he said in the recording that he didn't know if he would survive, as in not by sacrifice, just by getting killed by something, you know? Like, that he might have gotten killed by something against his likings, but he didn't even think of sacrificing himself untill just a little bit before Strange signaled to him, then Tony only knew that his sacrifice might be a possible solution, Strange just affirmed it to him. Only Wong knew were the portal exit was located. Doctor Strange was distracted by his death and Ebony Maw pulled his Sling Ring. Combining it when his technology to sense the stones, he retrieved the gauntlet and sent a "retreat signal" for Thanos to pull back, only for Thanos to go to him and fulfill his mission Just kidding.

I'm no expert but from what I can see returning the stones to the exact time they take it is a much easier and also better plan than trying to escape the warzone to hide the stones and from the situation the avengers are pretty much outnumbered by thanos's forces and thanos himself is not that easy to beat so sending the stones back sounds like a better idea

Thanos was planning to use the stones to kill all of life in the entire universe. Yes their goal is to stop thanos to ultimately save earth but if thanos gets those stones everyone dies, at least if you return the stones as soon as possible, the worse possible scenario is that maybe all of earth dies during that battle, but at least it isn’t the entire universe with a single snap. U could i guess “hide” them but no matter where they’re hidden, he’s eventually going to find them, he’s done it before lol, so if they hide them and they end up losing the war, the entire Universe perishes whereas if they return the stones before dying they could save everyone else in the universe. They’re not necessarily thinking in this situation that it’s a guaranteed win, so if they lose, it’s better they got rid of the stones beforehand
