10 Gut-Churning But Aesthetically Brilliant Anime

The majority of anime is based on mangas, video games, and real-life events, while the rest are entirely independent works. This sort of origin calls for a cinematic translation that remains true to the source and honestly reflects the writer’s or creator’s message behind the work. In most of these stories, horror, violence, and gut-churning gore don’t just exist to appease gorehounds or target a niche audience. They are an essential part of the narrative and shed more light on the subtle dramatic effects that the authors sought to employ. To cut out or tone down any of these themes is equal to demeaning their creativity and effort. Fortunately, this portrayal has seen a dramatic shift in the past few decades. Initially, animes used random blood spatter to create horror, but animes became visually aesthetic with technological advancements.
CGI helped in the efficient cinematization of swift fight sequences while making the entire film or series visually rich and enjoyable. Computer-generated visual aesthetics enhance the setting and overall feel by making the scenery more realistic. In this video, we will discuss some of the greatest and goriest animes that are stunning to look at and combine the love for honest story-telling with the hunger for appealing violence. Since we have already covered the popular animes of the 80s in other videos, we will keep our focus on the ones that came later.

Vampire Hunter D has always been my favorite among anime, both the 1980s and 2000 movies. Along with Ninja Scrolls and Akira. I just love the fact that none of the adult characters look like small children. The women and men look like women and men. Those anime takes you to another time and place, yet provides a hint of Japanese mythology mixed in with European mythology. Meanwhile, lately many of the current anime seem to be about exploitation and sexualizing children, which are disgusting. 😑It would be nice to see more anime in the style that Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was made in. That looks so nice and stylized.

This is false. The point of the series is to educate the reader on insects, which is a subject the creator is very passionate about. The vast majority of their manga are bug Manga that get very little exposure. To that end, the sexual scenes were added in so that people would actually read them. That's why there's so much more focus on the bugs than the actual sex scenes.

Actually 🤓☝️, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was based not on a manga but on a novel called "Demon Deathchase" by Kikuchi . The first Vampire Hunter D film was also based on a novel (of the same title) by Kikuchi. There are many other D novels, including a spin-off called "The Noble Greylancer". I recommend them as well as A Wind Named Amnesia (also by Hideyuki Kikuchi). Yes, there is a D manga, which was started in 2007, while Demon Deathchase was originally released in 1985 (2006 in English), & the film "Bloodlust" was released in 2000. Vampire Hunter D is one of those rare instances where the anime was based on a novel, not a manga 😉. Sorry, but that erroneous bit of trivia irked me. Otherwise, I enjoyed this vid 👍

Great video and great tastes. I would like to mention Sorcerous Stabber Orphen (1998). That's a good testament as to how art direction and atmosphere can greatly accentuate a scene or theme as you can compare it to the 2020 reboot. Azalea/Bloody August was genuinely terrifying in the '98 version while in 2020 she looked more like a typical dragon in any isekai anime and didn't give off that atmosphere of fear and destruction. Granted, it is nice how in the 2020 anime you actually get to know the world much better in context. In saying that, there is a charm to not knowing everything as I feel it makes a world more immersive. Also, the '98 anime was done by JC Staff. It does baffle me how they went from that to their current art and animation style. Also want to mention Higurashi Gou. This is a bit off-topic to your video as your video is less about gore and more about dark art/animation accentuating a heavy theme. But Gou is probably one of the best goriest animes in the past decade, I dare say maybe even two and that's even comparing it to the original series. Is it the most shocking anime or as shocking as the original anime? No and that can be up to the viewer. But how it handles its gore harkens back to the detail put into 80s and 90s gore. Toning down on the blood fountains and focusing more on the physical trauma and bone structure. Like eyes popping or losing nervous control when smashed in the back of the head by a metal baseball bat. Or the slow death of evisceration. Is it on the level of the 80s? No, but it's nice to see that there is a chance that anime hasn't completely thrown away that level of realistic violence.

"when they cry" is a anime.about a group of kids playing a game. The story always resets. End of first season listen to conversation at end. He says ahh I lost again. Also each character has specific things. One girl the cleaver, he has the bat, another is trap master. It's kinda like the kids are playing a gruesome game of clue. Their characters have to kill the guys character.

Vampire Hunter D is still one of my all time favorites, and Bloodlust is fantastic. That scene where D catches Borgoff's bolt is still one of the coldest introductions in any movie.

Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust still holds up today. The production value is up there with anything that is made today on a big budget. One of the few animes where I actually enjoy the dub and feel they hit it out of the park with the voice acting.

Oh absolutely bud! I was introduced to Vampire Hunter D by a friend of mine when it was first released and fell in love instantly. And it's sequel, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, is another great one. The animation style in which it was drawn is insanely awesome! Another one I highly recommend is Wicked City, which is an anime movie from 1987 or 1988 I believe. Now that is a truly Wicked anime to watch! Pun intended.😁

Read the manga based on the books, that continue the story. Sure some repeat the movies but you get a proper ending and feel of progression as the story with D moves through the centuries. Nice contrast that shows how detached from the world he is as an immortal.

I wish they did unapologetically violent anime again like they did in the 80s and 90s. Kite and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust are such gorgeous anime-dark and dreary. Kite may have been made in ‘98 but it really reminds me of the cynical, unwashed city feel of the 80s, complete with rainy-day jazz. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is simply a masterpiece of animation, gothic and gorgeous.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was not based on a Manga, it was based on the 1985 novella Vampire Hunter D, Vol 3 "Demon Deathchase". And is one of the first times where D is actually depicted more as the villain of the story than the stoic hero the film makes him out to be.. There was a Manga adaptation that came out in 2009 under Darkhorse Press.

Correction, 7:39 Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman was not based on the 90s Manga, that Manga was a retelling of the 70s Devilman Manga series by Go Nagai, whom wrote, illustrated and created Devilman, and its sequel Violence Jack among other titles like the grandfather of all Mechas, Mazinger Z.
