i'm surprised shaw didn't prefer the dawson arr. and felt like he needed to change it. usually the really "perfect" ones he leaves alone and performs as is. this sounds like a white gal got a'hol of a spiritual (Alice!) the "bump-da-bump-da-bumb" rhythm change gives her away. With the spirituals, since they are solely aural in origin, i guess there really aren't any "rules."
