When I met her at a meet n greet, Mary seemed agitated and tired. It made my friend feel some type of way. I just thanked her for meeting with us fans, even though she seemed tired. She said 'Girl! You have NO IDEA!'...That made me put myself in her shoes. I know I would feel the same way, if I was so tired but had to put on a happy face. I liked her realness and that made me love her even more.

_Growing Pains_ is the album that made a permanent MJB fan. I was only 12 years old when that album dropped. My older sister had a copy and I borrowed it from time to time. That album was an underrated bop. From that point on, anything and _everything_ associated with this woman I was in. She even answered my question back in 2017 via WBLS during her promo trail for _Strength of a Woman_ where my question to her was "what has been the most rewarding experience of your career?" and she answered: performing for _our_ first black president. Just when Luther said he idolized Dionne, Aretha and Diana in different interviews during his career, I honestly feel the same way about Mary. MJB has always been _that_ girl. And she continues to be one of the GOATs. No one will _ever_ come close to as what she has done or did for music, period.

I admire her. I remember growing up that she was a simple girl. Humble and dealing with problems that we all had. Now she's reached these heights and STILL seems to have maintained her humility WITHOUT that air of sadness she always seemed to have (in her music at least). She's about to soar!

I love you Mary J. I am 50. Your songs got me through some secret struggles I kept deep in hiding. She gives you a voice and is relatable. Her style reminds me of myself and at my former job my nick name was Mary J. I said before I leave this world I pray 🙏 I get to meet her. God bless her soul and Naomi for this channel. I just found it today.
