Sorry for audio at the beginning.
Diane Lazzaris runs One One Seven, a Surrey boutique which made an annual loss of £100,000. Concerned that the shop appears to lack passion and flair, Mary takes Diane to a Chelsea boutique for some presentation inspiration before testing her styling skills during a magazine photoshoot. Can One One Seven be saved, or is its number truly up?

Forever forties with time and money on their hands - interesting concept. I am nearly 70 but I still love fashion. I still work full time so I do not have time on my hands and most of my money goes on bills so I buy my clothes (always fashionable and often brand new) from charity shops and boot sales. I would not throw money at expensive boutiques and would only shop there in the sales even if I had "money to burn".

The interior makes me think of charity shops near me (not just the layout, but the stock she has), and I'm hardly in an area where shoppers with a lot of money go for clothes. We're very much a middle of the road area

I cringed when she said she didn't know an awful lot about the brand. My god women. Even in my teens I knew that when you go an interview (which this is) you need to do your homework beforehand. How hard is it to look up the brand first? In her defense, I suppose it is possible the show did not warn her beforehand, and if that's true then they are the idiots.

I feel sorry for Diane as Mary took her to browns & other shops , she basically told her if you chose pants of one rail it’s the top of the same rail that go with that pair of pants as if to say if you have one item of a rail of certain collection that you only stay with that collection . So when she went to Nicole Farhi she gone off that idea and the guy has basically said no actually that’s totally wrong because you cannot tell someone if they have a certain pair of paints this is how the outfit goes but I would say you can give outfit ideas and tips of how outfit goes together it’s not holding them at gun point to buy the specific outfit or the whole fashion industry then should get shut of mannequin then lol and not give outfit ideas chose it your self but yet why is browns selling like that then and giving outfit tips and ideas and they are successful in doing so , I’m not so sure if this guy is actually correct or not as he clearly just duped companies that do that and make a lot of money each year doing so obviously they are correct or they wouldn’t have been making money for 32 years like Mary said browns had been there for so I think he’s a bit of a know all saying what he’s saying just to sound good on tv but he sounds like he didn’t have a clue.

I'm not that age group, but what's wrong with someone older dressing in, say, clothes that 20 year old wear? If you're comfortable in it, and feel good about yourself, what's the problem? I find it hard to believe some wrinkles, and maybe greying hair, mean those clothes suddenly look awful.

Argh. If you were redoing the shop why couldn't you just make one dressing room accessible? It's not hard to do! There are so many of us who have mobility issues (particularly in their target demographic). It's so easy for them to fix, but without it we are highly unlikely to ever visit your store, and have extreme difficulty simply accessing clothing (a basic need)! Even people without mobility disabilities would appreciate the bigger change room.

It’s amazing how much social media has changed our perception of dressing for one’s age and ageing isn’t it? But that’s what fashion is I guess. Nowadays most 20 year old girls are happy in high-waisted mom jeans that do nothing for their bum and baggy hoodies, especially if they’re into fashion. And the 40-something woman certainly no longer thinks she’s middle aged. I’m a 41-year-old male this year and I still wear t shirts with childish graphics on them, let alone ‘proper’ gentlemen’s shoes.

I think what you mean is you will never understand bad fashion, which is actually a really good thing lol. Its weird, I have worked in retail for years and have styled women from 21 to 81, and there are so many stores like this one, terrible clothes and a weird mixture of dressing gowns and heavy dresses that haven't seen the light of day in decades, and grandma shoes. But when fashion gets it right it can be gorgeous and empowering, whether its H&M or Chanel. You really have to wade through all the crap though!
