After Eddie Murphy started doing more family-friendly movies in the late-90s, we used to say that 1980s Eddie Murphy would have completely picked on 1990s Eddie Murphy in his standup routines. You can tell that Bogomil was warming to Axel in the Supercop bit as they show him giving a quick smile after Axel said that he was buying the story. Love this movie! Eddie Murphy was on fire back in the 80's and 90's! Originally, Sylvester Stallone was going to play the lead character in the film, and it was going to be a lot darker, more violent and action packed than it is. Stallone hated the comedic tone of the script and did his own rewrite. The producers read the rewritten script but didn't like it, and Stallone quit production and turned his rejected script into COBRA 1986.

That wasn’t the case with the 90s, the 90s only had a few years where there was actually several hit movies… for example 1994, that was a HUGE year for movies. Some of the best movies ever came out that year. But no other year in the 90s had that many hit movies like all the way through the 80s did. 90s movies aren’t as cherished as 80s movies are. But I guess 1998 had quite a few hit movies that year too, but not like 94 did

The scene where Eddie was laughing at those 2 people on the street in those leather outfits, was because they were the costumes he wore in his 2 legendary standup specials, ‘Delirious’ and ‘Raw’. Great reaction! :)

I personally think the joke is that Axel's just been pretending to have an interview with Michael Jackson then passes people who are wearing outfits very much in the MJ style. The dude's red with black stripes jacket and red trousers/pants is very similar to the gear worn in the middle to end sections of the Thriller video.

The persona Eddie does here is very close to his stand-up comedy persona.. cool, cocky, charming, always going in and out of character.. but totally in control. He did 2 concert films in the 80s.. both are worth watching. Eddie was a king of comedy into the 80s.

This is one of two movies that changed movie making, dialogue, action, music, buddy/cop movies, forever! And both had Eddie Murphy! 48 hours, is before this, and even better! I was a kid and teen in the 80s, and I can honestly say, I feel sorry for those who didn't get to live through it! But at least we still have the movies, music, reruns of old MTV, and the fashion NEVER goes out of style. Just watch 48 hours, mad max movies, lethal weapon movies, and The Lost Boys!!

Mary... This was the second movie Eddie made. It was also the biggest hit of the year it came out. His first film was '48 Hours' which was also a big hit. At the time, Eddie was a cast member of 'Saturday Night Live' and the show's biggest star. - When Eddie was laughing at the two guys in the "Michael Jackson" leather get-ups on the street in Beverly Hills...he was laughing because the guys were actually dressed like Eddie was in the 'Delirious' stand-up concert that was recorded. - Lisa Eilbacher (Jenny) did not make a whole lot of movies, she was more of a TV actress. Another big-screen hit she made was 'An Officer and a Gentleman' with Richard Gere and Debra Winger. She played the only woman in the US Navy Flight Officer Candidate School. It is a really great movie, with an Oscar-winning performance by Louis Gossett, Jr. - Judge Reinhold (Billy) is probably best known for his role as Brad Hamilton in the 1982 comedy 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High' which stars a who's who of amazing actors including Sean Penn and Forest Whitaker. His most famous scene is kind of a meme...if you see the film, you will probably recognize it. - Ronny Cox (Bogomil) did a lot of hit movies in the 80s, including two Paul Verhoeven sci-fi films, "RoboCop' and 'Total Recall', playing the villain in both. - The theme song "Axel F" was written by Harold Faltermeyer, who also did the score for 'Top Gun'. "Axel F" was a HUGE hit on American radio, ranking in the top 40 biggest hits of the year. It was one of a handful of instrumental pieces that did that during the 80s. - Inspector Todd was not an actor but a real-life Detroit homicide detective who ended up being in all three 'Beverly Hills Cop' films, but not acting in anything else. - When Eddie is checking out of the hotel at the end, the Front Desk clerk is the film's director, Martin Breast. Some of his other films...'Scent of a Woman' (which earned Al Pacino his Best Actor Oscar), 'Meet Joe Black' with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins, 'Midnight Run' with Robert DeNiro, and....unfortunately...'Gigli' with Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, which was such a huge bomb, that it basically derailed his career. He is the equivalent of J.D. Salinger of film directors...you almost never hear from him anymore. I wholeheartedly recommend the second one, but I did not like the third one. I would also point out that you should watch another Eddie Murphy movie...'Dreamgirls'! He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar in a film that stars Jamie Foxx, Danny Glover, Beyonce, and Jennifer Hudson in her first film role, which also won almost every Best Supporting Actress award, including the Oscar. It is a musical with amazing songs...but would be a nightmare to edit.

8:46 Stallone was originally supposed to be Axel Foley but wanted the film to be more darker and grittier so he left before filming and his film ended up being “Cobra”. They already cast Mikey the friend who got murdered and the Museum curator lady who was supposed to be Stallone’s love interest and made her a childhood friend of Axel (Eddie’s) instead, childhood friendship still wasn’t fleshed out but who cares, Eddie’s performance makes you forget that haha.

Imagine Hollywood making a movie today that's just a decently-told little cop mystery, that completely takes itself seriously, yet also has a main character who's hugely charismatic and gets a ton of laughs just by being a likable real person. I cannot even picture it.

He's also just done a fourth BHC flick for Netflix.
