Animals As Leaders had to grow on me just like Meshuggah. But MAN, am I absolutely in love with those bands. They are some of the only bands who scratch that itch in my brain that nothing else has scratched. I love being able to break it down in my mind and remember what happens where. Then going through the song again and trying to remember where it all goes and what happens. It takes a few listens until I get parts of it down. It's a process for sure but in the end it's some of my favorite music that no other band gets close to. I have Tool to thank for introducing me to Meshuggah but also Stephen Carpenter who kept mentioning them over the years. He was a fan since the 90s, I believe. Animals? I gotta thank my coworker and now close friend, Javier. This band has blown my mind every single song. Every single one! And their new single... Just react to it. You'll see. 🤯

I met Tosin after their show here in London back in... 2017? They had released their last album the year before. Omfg.... I had never listened to anything like it. I heard a bit of the new album then simply went to their show with a couple friends... Wow... It was some of the craziest shit I ever heard and only recently I've been catching some of the stuff he does. I've watched many of his playthroughs and interviews and such. He's just a genius and very well trained. He went to school for music and spent 10 years learning before making that band. I also think he created it alone and had help for the production. Then had to get the 2 other members. I believe he knew Javier already and brought him on quick. The drummer Matt was right after. Maybe I'm making shit up so don't quote me. Look it up (as Eddie Bravo says lol).

really old comment so I'm sure you learned it by now, but their original drummer was someone named Navene Koperweis. Saw them live in 2011 very shortly before they released their 2nd album, Weightless. He was present for recording of it, but left afterwards. Matt joined and his first recorded album was The Joy of Motion and has been with them since. Navene was and is still an absolute beast but AAL has certainly stayed a powerhouse with Matt.

Yo guys, I would love to see you guys react to Meshuggah - Dancers to a discordant system. They are probably the meanest and heavy sounding band that still is very musical, although a very dark musical vibe. All of their songs are 4/4 over some other polyrythmic pattern and IMO they have the sickest grooves I've ever heard. Be prepared for some screams aswell ^^

I'm really into these reactions of prog bands. It's nice to see and hear the perspective of fellow musicians. Your guy's reactions are exactly what myself and my band bros do when we listen to this. Prog is our "bread and butter". Fused with other stuff too. Like hardcore, math-rock, and emo. Lately, in addition to that, we've been incorporating rapping, death metal, and post-rock stuff. So for me to see your reactions to the bands that brought me along my musical journey to where I am now is very cool. Some bands/songs I'd recommend if you'd take it. - The Contortionist (Return To Earth) - Leprous (The Sky Is Red) - Periphery (Satellites) - Deftones (Diamond Eyes) - The Dillinger Escape Plan (One of Us is the Killer) Some more Tool and Animals As Leaders would also be sick.

This was a great reaction and I especially loved the comparison to war. I get a very similar vibe from this track, but I think there's also a sense of not just war, but triumph, and the "good fight." It makes me think of the fight for justice. It is horrifying at times, and the ground is constantly shifting under us, but at the end of the day, we keep fighting, and that's what counts.

I saw these guys open up for Devin Townsend, amazing show very, technical playing. I think you should watch them play, it adds quite a lot. Perhaps check out Devin Townsend at some point, his style goes from the very heaviest of metal to country and opera. Perhaps his song Kingdom to start or Why or Genisis. Its another rabbit hole, all of his stuff is different. He used to be the lead singer for Steve Vai and strapping young lad. He does a duet with Anika Van Gersbergan that is very worth checking out. Enjoy.

I can only respect that you did it and got through it, its not very accessible, its very Jazz based to be honest, it's something I have to hear several times to understand it ,but the the more you do it, the quicker you get tracks like this.

@@marylandstationmusic9422 Animals as Leaders ...some suggestions: "Cafo" , "Brain Dance", "The Price Of Everything And The Value Of Nothing", all great tracks the latter 2 are more chilled too, far less aggressive, Cafo is pure balls to the wall , fantastic riffs, Tosin's playing ( and the other guitarist) is just phenomenal, dude is beyond killing the guitar lool Grunge: most of it lool, but in particular Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Smashing Pumpkins (if they are considered grunge, in the ballpark at least) I listen to all types of music but my foundation was blues, classic rock and Grunge, the mathy metal came later, but I grew up in Bristol, which has its whole own thing going so and that centers around Hip Hop Dub/Dubstep and DnB so I always loved that too, and Jazz and classical, something from just about every genre I probably like. Cool to see you guys doing the same on your channel. I myself make music in the vein of AAL but I am nowhere near as technical as they are, more groove based All instruments by me (Guitar Bass and Synth) except drums which I program Hagi "Embers EP" shameless plug ;-) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gc16nK2lyJrKZHk.html

3:54 Meshuggah does this a lot. You just have to count it. Pravus is 1213/1214. New Millennium Cyanide Christ has a 3/5/8 section while drums keep the steady time. Dancers to a Discordant System is a fantastic example of this with the kick rhythms, nonstop groovy variations.
