This band is frustrating to non-musicians, because they have no idea wtf is going on and it's frustrating to musicians because they do know what's going on and it's almost demeaning to hear.

no frustration here it inspiring to me as a musician its a new bar set to push those of use at our peak to go beyond it and as apposed to other really technical driven bands AAL just comes off as the complex scenery of a mountains valley rather that a complex piece of architecture both are technical in nature but one is more organic if i could use the word here , they breath music like its air

It’s criminal that there are people that are this talented on earth, and then they hook up and form a band…

Animals As Leaders are almost a force of nature because they're so talented at their respective instrument. It almost sounds like they were born with those things in their hands. Most often I find their music to be both a song but also a soundscape at the same time.

You post Animals As Leaders reaction, and I click immediately. Simple. These dudes are all monsters. I can't wait to see more of them from the perspective of your appreciation and recognition of their musicianship.

4:34 Thats it, I feel like with this band and also Tool when they are more technical, its about grabbing what YOU the listener want too grab. Stuff like this makes me move more than a lot of 4/4 dance "friendly" stuff, something about the counter rhythms and transitions, its more waves washing over me, it has that random yet natural feel to it in an odd way

Animals as Leaders has a new album coming out soon, would be great to see you guys do another "3 listen challenge" like you did with Primus to see how your reaction changes from the first listen to the third. I agree that the first time you listen it's overwhelming with so much going on, but after a few listens and you get familiar you start noticing new things and anticipating certain phrases.

This song wasn't my favorite at all, didn't even make my playlist at first. Maybe there aren't enough nice double bass grooves But when I saw this video , I don't know, maybe watching them play different guitars live made it better for me. And I like it, as an actual brain massage type song, when you want to let your mind float on complicated rythms, like when listening to some Tigran Hamasyan (armenian pianist playing free jazz with djent metal inspiration) I think you should react to Leprous , a norwegian prog metal (more pop rock almost rn). I'd recommend the drum playthroughs of "Moon" or "the sky is red" if you want to see creativity of their young drummer Baard Kolstad.

as far as "Feeling" goes, form a rhythmical POV, its all in the Cymabl work for me with stuff like this. If I was in this band, its the Cymbals (and Hih hats) I would be feeling in order too play with

Very great insight from u guys, yes as you mention its hard to grab onto something in this song, because its lot to digest for a first time i think u guys should try to listen the woven web from animal as leaders aswell, its beautiful af, its intricate but the guitar, drum n other thing very tie together its make very pleasant and easy to listen,no flexing, no unnecessary part, its very well put together like its mention in thier song title, you all should check it out, i want to hear u guys opinions, as always this channel is pure gems, u should get more subcriber, ngl

If I can get a honest feedback, feels like you guys are commenting on their music style and not the music itself or the musicians, which is fair, but is not a very open minded way of listening to new music. Of course what they play is not what you are used to, but is it good? Is it well played? Does it take you to a place you haven't been before?

It seems like the critique provided here is doing both - commenting on AAL' overall style and approach, while also focusing on the specifics of the piece itself. The criticism of Tosin's solo acoustic section as being too self-indulgent (and harming the overall composition), for example, seems to be exactly the kind of specific feedback you are saying is absent.

11:42, I would say Non Musicians cant hear what musicians hear though (not in the same way) . I would say different musicians hear different tings too. Musicians and non musicians they may be able to feel it the same emotionally, but they cant hear in the same way. Its like watching a film with a Director, they see it different, not to say that's a bad thing, it just is what it is. Ears are trained just as much as the hands and feet when it comes too music, and I notice in myself when I first encountered odd timings and meters, and polyrhythms I could not make sense of it let alone move too it. After some time I learned to, understand it and hear it and feel it in a movement sense. When I write these days, I sometimes write riffs that are in strange cycles that I have no idea what the time sig is, until I come to program the drums for my track, I regularly find myself thinking "shit I did not realise that was in 5/4" or "why did I write a 3 beat cycle followed by 4, wrapped up in a 7 beat section" just as examples. When I am writing the riff or section I can feel it in a body moving sense though (speaking of which new 11 track album coming soon under artist name Hagi;-) check out Hagi Embers EP if you want to hear any of my stuff thats on YT currently, not AAL level complexity at all closer too Tool in complexity than this) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gc16nK2lyJrKZHk.html

this group shines in those moments where they play "together". but most of the time i feel like this is the stairmaster version of music, trying to outthink their fans. its so technical that its actually edgy imo.

this is the kind of thing I struggle with - like, it's technically beautiful and they are very talented musicians, but I get no emotion from them at all - the whole thing feels very self indulgent - technically impressive, but lacking in soul and message

I feel there is loads of soul in it, but its a subjective term (unless you mean the genre). The middle section (described as a speed bump here) I would see as a little pointless, but the rest of it I love and for me is full of feeling

Depends on the emotions too. Their song Mind-Spun for example is meant to personify Anxiety per an interview i saw from Tosin. They like exploring other feelings too..

Music like this is not best reviewed in the first listen. I had this song on repeat for at least 2 weeks before I came to terms with everything in it, but I loved it from the start. With their newest album, I didn't like certain aspects at first until literally months after and a lot of listens, now it's one of my favs.
