👉 M*A*S*H is an American war comedy-drama television series that aired on CBS from 1972 to 1983. It was developed by Larry Gelbart as the first original spin-off series adapted from the 1970 feature film M*A*S*H, which, in turn, was based on Richard Hooker's 1968 novel MASH: A Novel About Three Army Doctors. The series, which was produced with 20th Century Fox Television for CBS.
The series is centred upon the interrelationships, stress and trauma involved in being a part of Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. They survive insuperable odds with the help of practical jokes and fun.

I have seen that episode so many times, yet it always gets me in tears. Having seen a doco on the show that came out in the last year or so, and finding out the writers never told the cast about what they were doing to Henry's character until the very last minute when they got the scripts AFTER they shot the scenes saying goodbye to Henry, that just makes the moment all the more powerful.

Larry Linville who played (Frank Burns) Was why the show was so successful. Alan Alda said he was a renaissance man and was loved by all on the set. He earned a aeronautical engineering degree out of Sacramento state university and designed and built aircraft. I watched the show for his character.

My favourite piece of trivia to do with the show concerns where they got Frank's nickname from. Larry Linville himself suggested it. They were trying to think of something insulting and he said, "In high school they used to call me "Ferret Face." By all accounts he was a lovely man.

When I heard of Kelly's death I was devastated. She was a very special cast member. All around sweet. She had been featured sincecthe first season but wasn't given any lines until a few seasons later. One ofvher most touching scenes was when a soldier lays dieing abd he calls her by his wife's name. She talks to him as she were his wife and he dies holding her hand. The premise of thr episode is thst shecus annoyed by Hawkeye's wandering eye and pays no attention to her. After tge scene I just described, he sees her for the sweet and caring person she is

I also liked the interaction between Nurse Kellye and Hawkeye when needing a tissue transplant. Hawkeye (Alan Alda being Italian): ‘Those are the size of spaghettini, we need rigatoni.” Kellye (trying to be respectful), “Doctor, I’m part Chinese and part Hawaiian. If you are going to use ethnic measurements, could you at least use ones I’d understand?” Hawkeye (trying for patience), ‘A small eggroll.’ Kellye, “*That* i understand. We haven’t got any that size.’

I'm sorry, did you call Klinger "simple-minded?" Because I don't know what show you were watching but it couldn't have been M*A*S*H; Cpl. Max Klinger on M*A*S*H was anything but simple-minded. 4:40 It is Odessa Cleveland not Orissa like it says on the screen. Gary Burghoff really played the drums on an episode of MASH. In 1968 he was a drummer in a band called The Relatives which featured Lynda Carter as lead singer.

One of the saddest episodes was when Charles rehearsed the Korean impromptu musicians over and over until they could play the Mozart piece perfectly. ÌWhile they were leaving, in the back of a pickup truck, playing, a North Korean bomb exploded, killing them all. I was shocked. But then that was what war was really like.

The Korean musicians didn't all die. I think one made it to the 4077 MASH camp and died while Charles attended to him.

@@hollyfinkbeiner6009 Which made it all the more poignant!!! I cry each time. Charles lost his love of music to soothe his mind. In real life David Ogden Stiers became an Orchestra conductor. I love the show more as the characters got away from the three stooges comedy to natural humor between people and their competition for pranks!! It was characters developing, thus more meaningful to the audience. That's why it hurt so much as each has passed. They became our friends!!

It's even sadder what your body looks like after it doesn't live fifty years. Be happy with your old age and remember that you were BORN fat, bald, toothless, cranky, incontinent, and unable to walk. Think of old age as a second childhood. And I'm 74.

fun fact: By 1953, the designation MASH, meaning Mobile Army Surgical Hospital had changed to Surgical Hospital (Mobile Army). Fun Fact #2: The 8063rd MASH was an actual MASH unit during the Korean War.

There should be a television Hall of Fame. Definitely MASH is a Top 5 level. Mid way into the series it got political and didn't try to bring in new characters or get correspondence from old characters. Like a film reel from Frank burns, or a letter from radar mentioning children. Maybe a gag letter from one of hawkeye's nurses he dated calling him papa...

Love this show in its first few years, but as it later became the Alan Alda show, and every scene ended with him always having the last line, as he became more self-righteous, and the show episodes almost always featured his view point, my love died a slow painful death.
