In this video I am in Matagorda staying on a river channel that leads into the gulf and all of a sudden a huge amount of menhaden started to surface and then die. Pretty soon there were miles of menhaden washing up and dying along with other bigger game fish. Comment if you think you know what caused this. Please like and subscribe!

Adam Griffin Hosea 4:1 The word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. 2By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. 3Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 4Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 5Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother. 6My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

The matagorda fish kill happened 2 months before Hurricane Harvey which impacted Houston. Matagorda is very close to Houston, approximately 20 miles away. Sources say that hurricanes can affect salinity levels and oxygenation in water which can lead to massive fish deaths. I think it's very possible that Hurricane Harvey had something to do with this massive fish death crisis.
@stormee211
@stormee211 4 жыл бұрын
2 months before is way too early for that to be the case.
@latestsports-viralsportscl3971
@latestsports-viralsportscl3971 4 жыл бұрын
@@stormee211 2 months does seem like a long time, but it's such a huge coincidence that the correlation seems plausible. It's quite possible that the fish foresaw the hurricane event, oxygen or salinity was impacted before the hurricane, or some other underwater factor happened that we don't scientifically understand yet. Underwater events may have taken place that could be related to both the fish extinction and super hurricane.

we literally just learned about this in my AP bio class, it's called a dead zone. it's caused by nutrient rich run off polluting the water, in turn causing algae blooms. when the algae dies, microbes eat it and use up all the dissolved oxygen in the water. this means the fish cannot breathe, and end up all dying and collecting at shore like this. it's truly awful and a sign we are killing our home 😩

When they slow down from injuries, don't you think that there's some pain at work? What about that 14 foot great white wounded by a propeller in the Sea of Cortez? He was in obvious pain and dying. OCE Finally, an insightful comment. I've been saying this for years. Humans as a species are so selfish, since the beginning of our existence we've just watched mercilessly as fish struggled for air and then drowned. Big corporations have even failed to step in and speak up about this, and so billions of fish have died. We've lost countless species to this, such as the ancient megalodon. For years I've been unable to go to the beach or great bodies of water because I break down crying thinking of all the fish that are drowning in them. But now we have hope, thanks to you. Thank you, OCE. Thank you.

Bantham Nobilis red tides don’t insinuate that the water is entirely red. Sometimes during the day the water will look perfectly clear, but it’s filled with algae. The red color is usually seen later on or far out to see.
@neotheone5559
@neotheone5559 3 жыл бұрын
It could be chemicals brought from runoff into the water causing a massive amount of poisoning in the fish and as shown can deplete oxygen and it could be red tide. But I thinks river pollution is more likely, its the reason why the Gulf of Mexico is considered a dead zone. It may very well be el Nino which changes the water temperatures and condition and since fish are cold blooded they are really sensitive to their environment. This is both sad and inspiring. It's shows how us humans can change the world wether for good or bad.

@thomaswilson5208
@thomaswilson5208 7 жыл бұрын
events like this are actually directly linked to industry and there is mounds of evidence who support this... Massive fish kill like this occur when runoff from farms, sewers and factories contain high levels of nitrogen and phosphorus. Algae then begins to grow at a rapid rate (know as an algael bloom). As the algae dies, bacteria in the water break down the massive amounts of dead material but undergo respiration. This means that the bacteria convert most of the oxygen into carbon dioxide. This then causes something called a dead zone, or a region of water with an incredibly low dissolved oxygen level (No oxygen) that many organisms can not survive in, including these fish. events like this are very clearly tied to the farming industry because of the use of inorganic fertilizers containing nitrogen, and waste runoff from cattle and other stock containing phoserous.

for people wondering about the lack of birds, its so hot in texas especially during summer birds only hunt in the early mornings or late afternoon, hes there in between their feeding time. Also its on a remote river channel, so not many sea birds as this is an uncommon phenomena. Im sure once one bird finds out about the honey hole, he'll call his friends and throw a rager.

Basically whats happening is all the fish used up the oxygen in the water, so they are suffocating. The same thing has happened up north here too

Toshow 10 typically low oxygen is caused by an algae bloom and not too many fish

Up in new york a similar menhaden kill happened not due to algae, but large amounts of fish- what happened most likely is massive amounts of menhaden entered this body of water and used up the oxygen
