It was April 16, 1996: the day he released his fifth studio album, Ice Cream Man. The project essentially carved the path for one of Hip Hop's most successful music moguls as he independently went platinum and kept a lot of money, thanks to a very unique deal with Priority Records. It was one of the first examples that a regionally known artist could spout off classic records without any major radio play. By the end of the year, everyone was screaming "I'm bout it, bout it" and "break 'em off somethin.'"

When that song came out in 96 I was blown away! It was a different sound, that beat was sick, and what dude was talking about I was in new York with my own ice cream stand😁 I was tripping off this song def one of the hottest songs out strait fire 🔥

NO rappers were ever in Wall Street Journal, Fortune magazine, etc. before P got there. Can you imagine a gold mouth southern rapper turning the world on its head to become the richest hip hop ANYTHING in the game????? None the less all this happening in the mid 90's. Two words....slept on. Now his newest music.....ummm, I will just stay in the past ;)

Dru Down and the Luniz had Ice Cream man out in 92-93 and those are facts. Plus Ice Cube took the Ice Cream truck and the Ice Cream Man with the gerrycurl/perm for Friday. Master P was in Richmond which was very close to Oakland and I believe that P needs to tell the truth and give some credit to Dru and The Luniz.

respect the nigga for his businessman hustle, everybody that was around and watched that run where NL drop WEEKLY albums in colorful packages w pen and pixel artwork couldnt help but be impressed even if you didnt like the music as far as ice cream man, well the album had a couple regional hits. the single ice cream man *i* personally was never impressed p used that turn off the lights beat w/o even asking, lol and what was so dope about mo b dick singing that simple ass hook ? anyways... yukmouth and dru down shit was 1000x >>> production and song wise but again its all subjective
