Master the Von Flue Choke by Using Less Muscle

Today I'm answering a question from Eric, a viewer, who is getting to the Von Flue Choke in BJJ but is struggling to finish the submission.
He says he has the position, he's squeezing really tight, but for whatever reason he cannot finish it, hence why he sends me the message.
The Von Flue Choke is a sneaky counter to the Guillotine and Is a great technique to learn if you train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or even MMA.
The problem Eric is having with this technique is pretty normal though, so I'll attempt to show you a different way to finish the submission without using so much muscle.
Instead, we will focus on utilizing body weight and positioning to get a proper finish.
Hopefully you found this video helpful, especially if you were having a similar problem finishing the choke.

I get there quite a bit, only finished it a couple dozen times. I'm definitely going to try to tweak my technique a bit to try to get more finishes

Great tutorial. Wish I had the opportunity to meet and train under Adam when I visited in February. He seems like a really cool guy. Can’t wait for my next visit to Fort Knox to come train again at DC MMA.

Interesting choke technique. I'd have a hard time with the triangle choke due to my thick legs and lack of good flexibility.

What do you do when you have someone in this choke everything is decent, ( i'm still new myself, and recognize I'm not an expert) and they are still too stubborn to tap. Especially if it's an inexperienced person. Would you just let them go out? I'm always thinking about my new teammates, is it better to let them go out or practice restraint🤷? Or, just keep adjusting until they either go out or tap voluntarily.

There ego must be very high if they don’t tap. Let them sleep one time and I guarantee they will tap moving forward.
