Why didn't I look for this video before painting an entire model by hand with the mouse circle brush? Nice vid, man.

Takes a lot of time for these complex models. It's why it would be better for designers to publish pre-painted models for everyone to enjoy. I have to go through this for every print.

Question: You make a point of using the circle tool as a last resort because it creates triangles. what is the downside to making triangles? just a bigger file size?

With the rotation - I think it's always rotating around the center of the plate (or some other fixed point), NOT a point centered in front of your viewport, which is what you would probably expect. It's really annoying particularly when zoomed in a lot.

Press save once in a while 😉 I’ve lost too much work when I’ve not saved and there’s been no auto save. On things like this you don’t always want to do it twice… [edit literally after I posted this - around 32:00 - you say to save 3 times hehe]

4600 color changes.. wow jezus. You will end up with a huge pile of material waste?.. that's kinda a bummer. Perhaps u could better print the bowser in one single color and paint it with model paint.. I would never dare such a print with my bambu lab; with the pretty big risk of failure / insane long printing time. One color would take +-9 hours?
@Blei0
@Blei0 10 ай бұрын
He actually printed it and it failed multiple times. I seriously cannot see the point in trying that. I see the AMS as a simple solution for a low number of Color changes. Bowser with that many changes is just a bad choice for the ams.
@HuskyRides
@HuskyRides 10 ай бұрын
I use the AMS for 2 colored objects max.. but most times i just throw in 3-4 rolls of PETG so i dont have to look at refilling my rolls for a while or use the AMS when there's only 3-4 color shifts throughout the entire print.. with a flag for a country for example. @@Blei0

@@johnbrooks7350 For this model: I don't know. There are just too many colors for any system I know - at least for printers that are affordable.

@@Blei0 well, I’ve actually been looking and apparently the Enraged Rabbit Carrot Feeder for Voron/Klipper is natively supported up to 9 colors and (not officially) up to 12 I’ve seen. For Prusa, apparently some people have made mods up to 12 as well. But I also disagree with people who have said that the Prusa and ERCF are, “Just as easy and reliable” as the AMS….. I know we’ve seen failures on this channel but from printing parts for my wife’s small business that are multicolor (usually 4-6)…. The only failures I’ve had have been due to damp filament layer adhesion issues. The AMS works great and for the bulk multicolor printing I do…. It’s totally reliable and the waste is completely reasonable for the end product and profit. Like…. I understand waste filament isn’t great when we’re talking about in the grand scheme of things but people saying “just paint it”….. when talking about profits that’s hours of unpaid labor that can be done by a machine with a level of waste that doesn’t even begin to cut into the profit margins.
@TheBullBelgium

but from a bussines sidepoint not very profitable if the cost for filament is already 35dollar unless you at least triple that price? :)

Wouldn't it be easier and better if you build the 3D model and assign colours on separate objects/sub assemblies which the slicer then reads and select the assigned colour which you have configured your printer with? This is a mesh you've downloaded, thus why you're doing it in the slicer here, but I still would prefer assigning the colours in my "3D modeller/CAD/whatever you're using to make models" and just use the slicer for generating the operations (G-code etc) for the printer. The slicers I've used are generally rather dumb when it comes to making any kind of edits, and they're not supposed to either IMHO... ;) I only use resin printers to print the designs/assemblies I make in CAD (SolidWorks and Fusion 360) so multi-coloured prints are a luxury I can't afford, but it sure as hell seems to be a very nice feature!

So 1.6 kg of material is like 30 dollars. Would be cool if bambu can nail down a tool changer. Good tutorial on painting though. When I first got my Kickstarter I printed Leonardo ninja turtle and the slicer wasn’t quite good enough for painting like it is now. I basically manually painted it.
