Today we are doing another grill review! We will be reviewing the Gravity Series by Masterbuilt. This grill is very interesting because it uses gravity to feed charcoal to the grill. Watch our video as we unbox, assemble, and cook on the Masterbuilt!
There are a few features on this grill that make it stand out from others. First, the gravity fed charcoal unit. This was a very interesting sight to see as this has not been done before. This grill is working somewhat like a pellet system. You pile you charcoal in the side then gravity feeds the coal as it burns. Another interesting thing about this grill is that you can adjust the temp. On most charcoal grills you dont have this option so that is very cool! It's also app controlled so be sure to check that out! We didnt have the time to do it so let use now how it goes.
This grill is a unique piece if machinery and would be great addition to your cooking appliances. This charcoal grill really stands out because it can used for smoking, used like an over, or just for grilling ! Let us know what you think of the Masterbuilt Gravity Series in the comments below. thank you so much for watching and be sure to subscribe!

Searing & smoking are two different functions so I’m unsure how that is relevant to a seared only steak unless it’s reverse seared. Weird point there. This unit is a hoss that is built cheap but ultimately is worth it. For steak, honestly throw some wood chunks in the hopper or in the ash can (ash smolders the wood as it drops onto it) and smoke it to 110 on the top rack (bottom grates run more hot). Crank it to 700 & sear it off a minute a side and you’ll have a steak worth a review. The unit does run off electricity but the advantage is it can run off a battery pack unlike any pellet on the market so a power outage means nothing. I have the Gravity 800 & that has the griddle & overall compared to pellet smokers, the Gravity Series wipes the floor clean. You’re getting actual wood smoke & charcoal flavor in low & slow & the ability to sear at 700 degrees with live charcoal. The problem with pellets is they are too dry so the smokiness is very clearly not as present as charcoal. Kamados are great but this innovation will eventually soak up a lot of the pellet market as it is so convenient. The only reason any of it is “manual” is to light the stack which at the end of the day is so small of an issue that the only complaint there is maybe we are too privileged to have such a thing in our country so it’s annoying for our lazy selfs. (Can run off straight wood as well like an offset with people doing it in the groups as proof) Switches burn quick but warranty is quick on that & even after the garbage 1 year warranty they cost like $8, not a bank killer (most parts still cheap out of warranty). Overall they delivered a charcoal grill that is as convenient as pellets smokers but with the flavor of kamados or regular charcoal grills/smokers. I mean if how cheap it looks or feels is something someone legitimately cares about, then absolutely waste the money on another unit that will do what the Gravity will but it encompasses everything pellet smokers were trying to achieve & did but minus what pellet smokers very much lack in flavor. The gravity hits every mark minus build quality but that one negative doesn’t (to me) justify not getting it for the price point. Is it worth the money & space taken up? Absolutely. The community is huge on social media & its performance has been proven.

I have the MB 560 and LOVE this grill/ smoker. I add wood blocks in with the lump charcoal for more smoke and that pure smokey flavor is something you just don’t get from pellets or gas. The VERSATILITY of this grill is amazing and it reaches any desired temp so fast!

@@embersliving the App is a 7/10. You can control and monitor the grill temp very easily while you have your phone open to the app. The two issues I have with the app 1) the app disconnects from the grill every time I close my screen or switch to a different app. Reconnecting is easy but annoying. 2) controlling and changing the probes is buggy, setting them is easy however if you want to make adjustments the app wont allow it.

Maybe they pushed updates but my app works fine. Sets the temp and time easily and accurately. It even beeps and pings you when desired temp is reached. With the wireless temp probes and this grill it's a game changer.

Have a 1050, best thing it does is reverse searing steaks…have made fantastic brisket and ribs as well, always using second shelf for smoking. Grilling 400-450 for chicken, etc works great as well. It really is a do-it-all. You are correct though it’s a little frustrating trying to gauge charcoal level and all of my switches have now gone out. A couple of kinks to work out but it’s a really good machine. Also the app is mostly useless until they add some sort of alerts or notifications. Definitely dont buy it for the WiFi, it feels like a tacked on feature to say its there. Also really enjoy using wood chunks in hopper when smoking, and the process really isn’t that bad.

This seems like a cool hybrid grill. Smoke when you want to and also grill when you want. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me. Also, I’ve heard you get much better flavor and smoke to your food than pellet grills (using charcoal & wood chunks). I think electric and gas grill are great for convenience, but nothing beats real smoke.

I have the 800 model, and thus far I love it!!! I do wish the temp gauge actually had number on it so you could actually match the temp on the digital display and the inner temp. It was tedious putting it together (did it solo). But thus far it is pretty awesome. Have a couple cooks on it now... 3 racks of ribs and a venison roast.

I have the 800 Series. One big decision to make is what type of charcoal to use? Briquettes or Lump? I did the initial Burn-In with Premium Hardwood Briquettes that use oils as a binder. My next cook was to season the Griddle using Lump Charcoal. Small pieces of lump charcoal will get stuck Slider Grate where you light your charcoal. If your charcoal does not light you will get a Error code #4. After 3 attempts and all getting Error code #4, I dial back the temp to 200F, inserted the Slides and turned off power. The next day I had to remove by hand all the lump charcoal in the Hopper in-order to remove the starter slide. I will now be using FOGO Super Premium Lump Charcoal. The pieces of Lump Charcoal are significantly larger.

I've had mine for 2 years and so far it's the best I have ever used or tasted and the easiest to use and clean. I've owned side smokers, reverse smoke and regular charcoal gril'sl and still think this is the best. I've smoked briskets, pork and chicken and it has never let me down. The pallet grills leave a very heavy smoke taste that gets too overwhelming by the third bite of the food, that it's just too much smoke for my taste. The best way to smoke with this is to add charcoal then some wood chunks then more charcoal and so on, untill it's filled. It creates a beautiful blue smoke when you have it running correctly.

@LegendsPizzaCo
@LegendsPizzaCo 2 жыл бұрын
You can absolutely use woof chunks or chips. You can layer in in the hopper with your charcoal or add some to the ash pan and the embers that fall will eventually burn the wood. Either way works good as I've tried both. One gold tip I found and saw was to put the metal slides back in before reloading the hopper. If you're on a long cook and need more fuel do not open the top with the fire roaring a back draft can occur. So I've learned to put the slides in cut off the oxygen to the grill. Open tbe top load the wood. Close the top then remove the slides again. A few peopke on you tube have good videos of how their grills caught on fire. Be safe

I have the 560, I use it to smoke briskets in general, I don't like the build quality, a lot of people are spending 300-700$ extra on mods to fix some of it's problem and to prolong it's life. It's a great concept, but poor execution. I cannot compare it to my Napoleon prestige.
@KlovenTrooper
@KlovenTrooper 2 жыл бұрын
The 560 was the entry model that lacks in a lot of ways & it shows. The 800 (I have) is a beast with much better build quality & I’ve used ZERO mods to enhance any of it. As always with intro models, they won’t be the best especially when it is a revolutionary product with nothing to base it on charcoal wise. It is getting better but I would absolutely steer anyone away from the 560, it’s just a cheap product & the 800 & 1050 are much better quality.
