When designing an electrical circuit it's common practice to go piling into calculations to figure out breaker ratings, cable sizes and similar.
However there's some important information to gather before you go down that road.
We take a look into the various books that give advice on electrical design, including BS 7671 The Wiring Regulations, the On-Site Guide and The Electrical Installation Design Guide published by the IET.
Take a dive with Joe into the exciting world of electrical design in this series of videos that will help you if you're just starting out in this area at college or work. Even if you've been an electrician for years, there's something for everyone in this series of videos.

You should make a video explaining what CPD means. I've been watching your channel for over a year (probably 2 now) and although I have learnt loads from you I still don't know what CPC is

CPD , CPC or both?

CPD is a Circuit Protective Device, e.g. MCB to BS 60898 or RCBO to BS 61009. CPC is defined in Part 2 of BS 7671.

CPD - continuing professional development. CPC - circuit protective conductor.

Seems strange we use the c min value of 218.5V in the calculation for earth fault values when a minimum permissable voltage value in the esqcr regulations is 216v

So yeah enclosures to 61439 can handle 16kA if backed up satisfactorily. Its the thermal constraints of the conductors... Particularly with mcbs thats the real concern at higher fault currents. Especially when t&e is launched in without a second thought.

It's insane to consider 16 kA in any domestic environment. It's simply not a number that will ever be approached. I wonder if they standards people are just carrying over some extreme numbers from industrial settings.

Yeah, it's an interesting note in the guidance that I'd not really come across before so thought it was worth a mention. 🤔 Trying to be as thorough as possible without it getting overwhelming or confusing. 😃

In fairness you get a house parked up next to the substation it can get pretty tasty and in urban centers can be a lot higher than expected. I've been in a few where the t&e installed wasn't cutting it because of the reduced CPC and high fault currents. Not that anyone else seems to worry about it.
