Even more sinister, it could be inferred that she represents a sjw version of the loyal black manservant that was ubiquitous in Victorian fiction. It is striking how often the filling of diversity quotas plays into racist stereotypes. Finn is not only one of the only Star Wars characters to ever be tased on screen, he is the only one to be tased multiple times. Not to mention in the first film Pizza Supreme himself Kylo Ren whips Finn across the back with a literal flaming cross

@aceambling7685
@aceambling7685 2 жыл бұрын
@@mattstorm6568 it is racist when the servant caste is entirely composed of seperate races who are treated as inferiors. The idea of the ideal member of that race (whether African, Gaelic, Slavic etc) being a loyal and selfless servant dedicated to the comfort and aggrandizement of the superior race is fundamentally racist. Dont be one of those insufferable Liberals who denies the realities of tribalism. It is a legacy of slavery, and I'm not talking about American slavery. You cannot believe that I will ever forgive the enslavement and torture of my kin at the hands of Hebrews, Arabs, and Anglos.
@mattstorm6568
@mattstorm6568 2 жыл бұрын
@@aceambling7685 Wtf are you talking about? I'm a liberal? Liberals are the ones trying to erase tribalism...well, at least for Europeans anyhow. People have servants who are the same race as them, having a servant in and of itself does not = racist. As I say, you don't know what the word means. Even stereotypes are just that, stereotypes, you may argue they offend you but for them to be racist you have to be a mind reader and know the writers thoughts/feelings - which you don't. Who the hell said I was asking you to forgive anything? Nothing happened to you so how arrogant of you to think there's anything to forgive, every race has been slaves or slave owners at some point so spare me.
@aceambling7685
@aceambling7685 2 жыл бұрын
@@mattstorm6568 did you even read my initial comment? I emphasized "Loyal BLACK Manservant" which is a common trope from Victorian Novels. I never claimed that the idea of a servant caste was racist, and you will notice I never asserted that racism is inherently bad. I simply referenced a specific and contextually racist literary trope that is seemingly imitated by this self proclaimed "anti-racist" work. You are a deeply confused individual and I suggest you self reflect and check your ego before you make a further fool of yourself. And in the last your luciferian individualist colors fly. It does not matter if it happened to "me", I am not only "me". I am the culmination of my ancestor's efforts, and to throw down the vendettas and traditions of my forebears is to forsake and shame Alfadhirhaitis.

Well you're making it sound better than it is. Masculine characters, regardless of gender, are usually the cool/badass ones. There are a lot of masculine buff female characters that are likeable in media. The problem is that Teela is too different from her og version and is a very shallow character, even more so for her partner in this show who serves to check the diversity checklist. They could've made a different character who is a manly female melee fighter or write her better. The whole show kinda sucked overall.

The best thing for a wolf is to be as wolf as possible. Same with other animals. Same with humans. Men are at their best when they’re masculine, and women are at their best when they’re feminine. Generally speaking. The only reason why modernists promote these ideas of masculinity being toxic and etc, is because of what they believe in. The twist of her being able to just leave the castle anyway reminds me of the comic Sonjaversal, which is a big Spider-verse-esque crossover between alternate versions of Red Sonja. Part of the premise is that each Sonja is given a blessing by a goddess, but to keep their special powers, they must perform some ritual every time they want to do something involving said powers, or they have to avoid doing certain things to maintain their purity or whatever. In the final battle, it turns out they never had to do that, and the Goddess was just lying to them to keep them in check and oppressed. So, they Sonja's break all their rules, keep their powers, and talk about how stupid it is that the Patria-- I mean "the gods" kept them down, or something to that effect. Real girl-power moment of "I was always awesome, I just needed to stop listening to others and realize it."

gotta love when stories raise stakes then make them irrelevant in the next second. a character doesn't come up with a creative solution or loophole to break previously established rules. they just do by shear willpower, simultaneously taking a dump on all those before them. no one else left the castle because they were just too lazy and incompetent. Avatar the last airbender, Aang was told he had to give up his earthly tethers to achieve more power. He denied it at a cost to never being able to go into the avatar state again. by chance another injury gave his connection back so he could, but he still didn't reach his highest potential Sometimes when writing you need to follow the rules you've created to ensure consistency and to not diminish the sacrifices made by characters before. You raise up one character by bringing down all the others. for instance making a future successor of spiderman where he doesn't keep his identity secret and making it have zero consequences. it then makes peter parker look like a paranoid kid who had nothing to worry about and sacrificed relationships when he didn't need to.

Oh, it's worse than Randor just forgetting about Teela's childish reasons for abandoning the kingdom; it's the fact that he says her reasons for leaving were 100% justified because he knows how much it hurts being lied to (having been so hurt by this same 'lie' that he was willing to exile his best friend under the threat of death and separated from his wife over it - never mind she only strongly suspected that her son was He-Man; not that she actually knew for sure). And this was made even worse by Adam = who further enables this toxic BS by apologizing to them both for keeping a secret in the first place. Leaving her position because her father was facing some unjust/unfair punishment would have been 100% valid; leaving her position because her fee fees were hurt that she was left of a secret she had no reason to know? F*ck that BS!

Woman + muscles ≠ strong female character. It's actually rather demeaning and I'm not sure the show's creators can understand why. Muscles fight the wars, throw the spears, bring the meat, fend off the wolves.... Muscles are a *supremely* masculine trait. Welcome to history; that's just how it do. Yet all these "powerful" women are just so beefed up.... almost as if the only way they could _improve_ themselves was to take on that masculine trait and become more like a man. Which basically delivers the message that men are superior to women. And since women in real life just physiologically _cannot_ gain muscle mass like men can, any little girls watching this who want to aspire to be like these impossible heroes will only be met with disappointment. There are a million and one ways to be a hero without the muscles. If you can't defeat The Monster by pummeling it with your fists like a barbarian.... try outsmarting it! Try charming it! Heck, try talking to it or befriending it. Solve the mystery. Invent something. Learn a spell. Do reconnaissance. Be a spy. Tame the beast and remove the thorn from its foot. Or you know, maybe just let the local Barbarian deal with The Monster while you go be a womanly hero elsewhere. Are your other friends safe? Are they terrified or injured and in need of that healing balm and manner that only a woman can administer? What an interesting challenge that would be, for someone to create a show about a woman who excels at what _women_ can do.
@nahor88

You sound very chauvinistic... women absolutely can get muscular, they just have to work much harder than men. Thanks man! Amazing review! You saved a lot of us from watching this thing. I was going to watch it because I thought it couldn't be worse than the first part, but I was so wrong. What angers me the most is that they are doing this with every franchise they see profit, and the formula is as follows: - Find something that was successful years ago. - Use a marketing campaign that lures the original audience, with this move the product advertises itself. - Show the character o characters that create that 'nostalgic' feeling in a teaser or trailer. - Write a story with modern 'sensibilities', using the current template. - Bring a new cast of characters that will occupy the place of the old characters and within the story make the old characters officially and willingly mark them as 'successors', after that 'ceremony' kill the old characters or make them obsolete. - Set the story for many sequels and spinoffs so the money keeps coming. If the material is going to diverge so much from the source material then it should be an entirely different thing. Using a known franchise is easier because all the relevance gained through the time and hard work of others is inherited by default.

Well I think I called it pretty well. Teela ends up as the main character of the show and is loaded down with special powers. Prince Adam gets sidelined. Evil-Lynn decides to join the good guys. It's like SJW creators only have one overarching idea for anything they write. The main characters have to be female. These females have to be awesome, able to break established 'in universe' cannon at the drop of a hat. Previously evil female characters all get a redemption arc which establishes the fact that they weren't evil, just misunderstood or tricked by the evil male characters. All male characters are to be either killed off or relegated to standing on the sidelines.

Perfect summary. Also: When any female character messes up it's never their fault. They are always supposed to be sassy or wise, but come across as arrogant instead. They are never mothers and rarely in a relationship. When they are, the partner is less masculine than they are.

My parents took me to see Clerks in the cinema when I was about 14. That was nearly 30 years ago. One of the best cinema experiences I've ever had. I was a big Kevin Smith fan for years. Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. All fucking great. When I heard about the Jay & Silent Bob reboot, I was so hyped. When it finally landed on one of the streaming services I was so hyped. I waited until I had a free evening, smoked a bowl and got comfy for what I thought would be another awesome film. Jesus, how wrong I was! I think I tapped out after about 25 minutes. I just couldn't take it anymore, just fucking terrible. Not sure wtf is wrong with Mr Smith these days but the dude is turning out to be a total douche. All this sjw bs is the stuff he would have mercilessly destroyed in his youth. But now he seems to embrace it. Now I don't give a shit what people think or believe but just don't fuck up beloved franchises just to make a statement. The only people interested in seeing a new He-Man are middle aged men who loved it when they were kids. That's it. All this did is piss off and alienate existing fans. I would bet good money that this turd burger didn't make a single new He-Man fan, male or female.

Every time I see that in any movie, it just seems like the weakest try-hard justification to create drama where none exists. You know what a friend did when he found out 45 years later that his dead aunt was actually his dead sister? Nothing. Nothing changed at between he and his parents. They just moved on. If you're butt-hurt because someone held a secret to protect you; or a secret that doesn't change your life, then you're just looking to be a twat. Anyone who does that to me is quickly dumped out of my life. I have real life problems to solve so tolerating a dimwitted child's response to an adult problem isn't on my to-do list. Whenever I see that device used to cause a friction between characters, it means the writer couldn't think of anything. It's the most passive and non-visual way to cause friction between characters... and it's in a visual medium. Not even novels are that lame. Another trope is the "comedy of errors". Any plot that revolves around an accidental misunderstanding between characters is an instant turn-off-the-show-and-find-something-else-to-watch from me. I think there's some drug all these Hollywood types have been doing at parties which makes them all write woke and believe it's art. Like all that coke in the 80s was responsible for the steep dive in movie and fashion quality at the time. You can watch the average 70s movie and it doesn't seem weird. Watching the average 80s movies is like watching a freakshow with all the fkd up fashion, hair styles, garish clothes, and bad technical moviemaking. Like coke was giving everyone a false sense of grandeur.

something i've always wondered about feminist reboots is why they hate women so much. when feminists reboot a female character they try to remove every single female trait from them and replace it all with their own strawman versions of male traits. creating a character that they would describe as the most offensive example of toxic masculinity of all time but don't because they wrote them without a penis. what this tells us is that feminists think that the only way that a woman can be strong is if they are a man with a minge. boiling female identity down to their genitals and saying that "toxic masculinity" is the true source of strength and empowerment and that female traits are inherently inferior. TL;DR we have reached the point where feminists hate women more than anyone that they call misogynistic
@no-legjohnny3691
@no-legjohnny3691 2 жыл бұрын
And to think the feminist movement was started with the simple goal of obtaining equal rights to men... You see, this is what happens when a bunch of extremists take hold of any major social movement, it creates an end result that is the exact opposite of what people wanted in the first place. Socialist movement? You get an authoritarian government that owns everything and controls people's lives. Anti-racism movement? You're now being rediculed and favored less because you're the most common skin color, and don't even bother expecting better treatment if you're not the specific skin color they're talking about. And the list just goes on and on.

I encountered an interesting point the other day, which was that all the traits people use to try to make "strong female characters" are the same traits that are criticised as being "toxic masculinity". So, no, this isn't really toxic femininity, but rather it's a whole load of hypocrisy.
@alejandronieto4212
@alejandronieto4212 2 жыл бұрын
@@yurisei6732 this. People who make "strong" women characters often seem to have no idea what feminity is. So they pick a toxic male, slap boobs and call it a day. Actually a feminine female hero would be great to see, winning against stronger opponents through wits, keeping the mind focused on dire situations, showing actual emotional balance and good care for people around her... and yeah, getting scarred by the horrors she faces, by that time she couldn't help someone she cared about, by that time she fails... but carry on and rise to the challenge. But of course, this is not about making interesting female characters, it's about cash. And if in the process they get to muck up feminism, even better.
@yurisei6732
@yurisei6732 2 жыл бұрын
@@alejandronieto4212 Another annoying thing is that everyone just thinks "strong female character" means "A female character who is strong" when what it actually means is "a female character with strong writing". I'm conceiving an original book, themed on Greek mythology, which does focus on female characters, but they're actual characters. One of them is a former slave who due to being used as a test subject for unlocking eldritch knowledge ascends into being a living god and becomes a queen of an entire nation of freed slaves. She's seen as benevolent since she does care for her subjects, but she's actually very flawed in that she's paranoid that someone will invade her country to get at her knowledge of godhood, has made veneration of all gods illegal out of hatred (and fear, because I'm talking Lovecraftian-style gods) and is not all that benevolent despite trying to justify everything she does. Her aim is to create a god of war she could control to safeguard her lands, but she ends up creating a monster. This plot involves duplicity and treachery towards her very own family.

@@JohnP-go6wf Given that there are male characters in the cast, one of the other living gods (the god of the dead) is a man. Also here's the kicker: There are no humans in the main cast. Because humans in this setting are nearly extinct. Basically there's an empire that conquered the majority of the continent it takes place in and enslaved the population. To make them easier to dehumanize and better slaves; they were transformed using a horrific magical and alchemical process into what are basically slave races: Anything from physical labor, to magical assistance, to using them as hunting hounds or even living decorations.
