There’s something magical about hearing a song for the first time. Having my brain completely blank; to be taken on a journey where I am unaware of where I will end up. What an incredible masterpiece this song is. Maybe it’s the weed. Maybe not.

@@whizzercone maybe in studio, he’s absolutely not the best vocalist live, and was pretty damn awful for many yrs after he fucked his voice up. He pretty clearly doesn’t like to sing that much in mastodon I’m sure because he doesn’t want to sing a lot at shows. All of their actual singing voices have gotten better in recent years tho because they started to focus on it more

@@trzigweid that's the true sign of a band that actually grows, matures, and explores. As much as I love all of the old stuff going back to Slick Leg, it's killer to watch them grow and evolve. There are a lot of fans that want a Remission or a Blood Mountain or a CTS over and over. Not me. They already did those albums and they're masterpieces. Life is meant to be lived in the windshield, not the rearview mirror. People evolve. Musicians and bands should too. Mastodon is adults with families and a different POV on life than when they were in their teens, 20s, 30s, 40s. I was lucky enough to see them in Atlanta back in the club days before they blew up and we knew back then they were going to be amazing. We had no idea just how amazing.

LYRICS: Will there ever be a moment I won't feel this heat coming up from ground? Will there ever be a time when I can show myself through open doors? All I need is you to tell me how to reconcile this guilt and shame I’ve already ripped myself to pieces and I've given it away All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It's hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction Can you tell me how to wish away this chaos making my head spin? Can you tell me how to soothe the savage beast locked up inside these walls? Will there ever be a place that I can hide and heal these open sores? Or do I have to cut them out and eat them as my people adore? All the weight lies upon my shoulders from The great disruption It’s hard to breathe inside these waves of doubt Tidal distraction I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today I have, I have lost my way Reaching, reaching for today Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back Say when And I'll come running back

Sludgiest track on the album and my god Brann's voice is so angelic and Troy's voice in the bridge is almost Peter Steele-esque followed by a really pretty riff and Brent takes us home with a tasty little outro solo that tastes just like Ritz cheese crispers!
@puppetmaster8551
@puppetmaster8551 2 жыл бұрын
Troy only sings the chorus on this. The bridge is brann and then when it’s repeated it’s Brann layered with himself. When they perform it live tho it’s Brann and then Brann and Troy together because brann obviously can’t sing both the high and low parts by himself.

Probably my favorite off this album. Killer verse guitar riff, awesome verse vocals by Brann, solid good ol switch off with Troy for chorus vocals and just when you think it couldn't get better you get a great change with a Dirty B solo and more Brann vocals. That ending just grabbed me and something about it was new but familiar and after several listens it struck me that it is very similar (but not stealing anything) to AIC's Nutshell in chord progression and in so evokes that same visceral emotion for me. Another solid Mastodon album and this is one of the highlights imo that keeps me running back.

Mastodon is one of my favorite bands, period. I really do love all of their albums, with Leviathan and CTS being my absolute favorites. This album is just so massive. I have to admit, upon my first 1-5 trips through it all, it seemed like every song was meandering aimlessly through chaos. The timing and riff changes seemed so abrupt, and unexpected, that every had this unfinished feel. I really didn't feel it from start to end. It was a lot to take in and try to understand. Now, fast forward to about the 20th time through this album, and I admit that this is entirely different level for Mastodon. The arrangements, the hooks and switches have become much more familiar and I now have a sense for where each song is meant to go. It's a thing of beauty. Thank you Mastodon.

Alright so I know everyone says this “this is their best album yet what a masterpiece.” I’m not that guy. I liked all their albums and loved most of them, Hunter and OMATS were a little off for me, but then Emperor of Sand felt like a huge step in the right direction, and now Hushed and Grim….. this album really feels like the final form of their style. The style of mixing every good aspect of every good genre of rock and metal…. Like each album since crack the Skye was a version of this concept but this one feels like THE ONE…. Don’t normally gush about music like this but again this one hit perfectly and I can’t stop listening to it. Also the mix is perfect.

The entire double album titled Hushed and Grim that this track is from is said by Mastodon to be dedicated it to their friend & manager Nick John who died in 2018 of pancreatic cancer. This song to me seems to be about the great loss of John and immense impact that his passing has had on the band over time.
