@brianartillery

My brother went to the last ever meeting at Arena Essex. I don't talk to him about track closures - he's been following Banger racing for over 30 years, and the subject makes him very angry indeed. As it should. Other sports fans would be outraged if someone said: "We're closing Wembley/The Oval/Epsom racecourse/Silverstone down to build houses on the land." More people watch Banger racing in the UK, than any other motorsport combined, and yet, each year the circuits vanish. It's possibly down to it being seen by some (not me, I love watching it when I can), as 'low class', as it's affordable, open to all, and most of all, great fun to watch, or participate in. My two nearest circuits, Foxhall, and Mildenhall, are safe - but you're always wondering - for how long?

I enjoyed your video, it was suggested by "Time Rider". Here in the USA we had what was called "Demolition Derby's" . The field of cars were in a field and simply banged into each other until one was left moving under it's own power. It was interesting to see your "Banger Races" were on a typical oval track. Thanks, I decided to subscribe to your channel. By way of introduction I am a Camera collector, restorer, repairer and sometimes customize them. I enjoy "Hot Wheel" and "Matchbox" restoration videos because many times I pick up great ideas and techniques that I can apply to my hobby and get good leads on some great tools. Regards, Tom USA

Doing videos is something I've always wanted to do. I just don't have the time to do all that work. FYI I am restoring a few 1950's "Realist Stereo Viewers" (Google it") The battery contacts rust out due to old battery leakage. I use the rust remover and zinc plating techniques I learned from you gents. One day I'll do a video, I certainly have the digital equipment for it. THANKS

Our Bangers drive on a track which can be made of tarmac, or concrete, or shale, or even mud, and can get up to 80 mph on the straights. A full contact sport. The only move that is really prohibited, is full speed impact on the driver's door. Still happens, though.
@tomheckhaus7617
@tomheckhaus7617 5 жыл бұрын
Dangerous sport, our drivers usually drive in reverse and aim for the engine compartment or try and knock off a wheel. I haven't been to one since I was a kid. All I have locally is a drag-strip. Thanks

That's really nice! I'll have to show this to my brother who still goes all over the country, and occasionally abroad, to watch banger racing - it's one of his favourite things to do. He did have a racing licence many years ago. The last meeting he went to was the last ever meeting at Arena Essex, which, like so many other circuits, including the brilliant Wimbledon track, has been sold for redevelopment. It's rather sad. Anyhow, that's a lovely custom, and the good thing about bangers is that almost any make of car is fair game for wrecking!

Because I work odd hours, I don't get to go much now - but, as I'm sure you'll agree, it's a great afternoon or evening's entertainment. I don't think a lot of people realise the preparation those vehicles go through, how fast they can go, and how safe they are - I've seen 'follow ins' where the target car has been crushed almost flat, and the driver has got out with a few small cuts. Incredible.

In the UK, any car is fair game. Rolls Royces are often raced. Huge Daimler Hearses. Big Rovers. Cadillacs. At one meeting my brother went to, a guy raced a car used by Winston Churchill. A large gang of people tried to have it removed from the meeting, but to no avail. It was wrecked.

@railtrolley
@railtrolley 5 жыл бұрын
The suspension beam has sagged. Its a plastic strip attached to the interior piece that has bent over the years. Common problem. The beam can be placed in boiling water to soften it and bent back to straight. Then some cold water and it should stay straight as it cools. This will get the ride height back and hopefully good for another 50 years.

I don't know what to think. We don't have that kind of car or racing here. most racing cars in the lower classes get the doors welded shut. In Demo Derby they may only chain them shut, I've never seen them plated shut like that. the number thing on the roof isn't used either, tho it seems like a good idea to me.

@@MatchboxRestoration seems like a good way to do it. Not everyone has a welder and torch available. Would probably be rules legal, but it just isn't done. I looked at some Banger racing on You Tube. kinda looks like a cross between early stock car racing and a demo derby. Oddly, a few of the cars had the passenger door cut out and left open. Looks like fun. today's stock car racing isn't, the cars are so far from stock it's ridiculous, the engines alone can cost 100K in the top levels. The rules have really ruined it.

Hi Scott, check out some British Banger Racing Cars images (like this one: c8.alamy.com/comp/B5X4XM/banger-racing-cars-smallfield-raceway-surrey-leyland-mini-B5X4XM.jpg) Usually they have the bumper removed. I understand your remarks, but banger racing cars do have a certain look. I tried to mimic that look on this custom.

I really like what yiu've done , but being a banger racer l didn't think you'd need to worry about the body work so much and you coukd've put a single seat fir the interior as most banger racing cars the interior was stripped out. In saying that I love what you did with the plates to hold the doors and bonnet (hood) in place. Another thing they dud was put a radiator behind the drivers seat and add a small fuel tank. I'm only going on what I've seen at banger racing in the UK. But on the whole you did a great job 👍

I like your work a lot. Deeply envious. I am having a problem getting a durable finish when spray painting die cast model cars. I am using Vallejo undercoat, paint and varnish but the paint remains easily scratched and then I have to strip it off and start all over again. It’s happened to a lot of the cars I done. My success rate is very poor. I give them 3 coats of light undercoat, leaving 15-30 mins to dry then leaving overnight before give 3 coats of colour, 15-30 mins between coats. What am I doing wrong?

The acrylic paints are notorious for getting scratched and chipped easily. I often have this aswell. Do you use any primer coat first?

You could try setting your paint cans in hot water for 10 min then paint

The tracks were local on a field (offroad). I'm planning on visiting Warneton in the summer.

Yes, it's a big thing in the UK. I started a league in Belgium too at the beginning of 2018. Search for RC Banger Racing BE/NL. You'll find some videos of our meetings 😊

Love it! You should do more customs. If you haven't, check out the channel of "Sideways King 75". He does some racing customs.
